Posted in Speakers by Conner Flynn on August 16th, 2009

Mighty Mini Boom Box and Amp speakersThese speakers may be small enough to fit on a keychain, but they pack some power. These little speakers are more than powerful enough to use when listening to your MP3s on the go. Just plug your iPod or MP3 player into the 3.5-mm audio jack.

Each version has a built in USB-rechargeable battery pack that will give you enough juice for about 2.5 hours of playback time. That’s pretty impressive for the size. They’ll cost you $25. Small speakers, big sound. What more do you want?

Archos Clipper released

Posted in Archos by Conner Flynn on July 28th, 2009

Archos Clipper releasedArchos just recently got into the small MP3 player market with the Clipper, which will obviously target the SanDisk Sansa Clip. All they did was add the “er”. Though I don’t think that SanDisk will be bothered much since Apple dominates them both in the portable media player market.

Like the Sansa Clip and Creative Zen Stone, the Archos Clipper has no display and is designed to be clipped onto your belt or pocket. For $30 you’ll get 2GB of storage space, but we’re not sure anyone is interested. Anyone?

Disney and Panasonic are starting things off by packaging pre-recorded microSD cards together with DVDs holding the same movie content. That way users can easily watch their favorite DVDs on portable players.

Posted in Samsung,T-Mobile by Shane McGlaun on July 22nd, 2009

samsz1Lawmakers are looking into possible antitrust violations centering on exclusive deals that most of the major cellular makers offer with handset to get customers. The exclusive deals allegedly make it hard for small providers to compete.

For now, exclusives are still the norm and Samsung and T-Mobile have announced a couple new exclusive handsets called the Samsung Comeback and the Samsung Gravity 2. We have talked about the Comeback already, so I won’t focus on that handset other than to say T-Mobile will offer it for $129.99 with a new agreement and it is available now.

microfridge-sbConvergence is a great thing in the gadgets we know and love today. For instance the iPhone is a great converged device that can replace a GPS system, phone, MID, and MP3 player with one device. Convergence is usually associated with technology products, but not always.

A converged refrigerator is now being offered by a company aptly called MicroFridge. The device combines four things that the average college geek needs to make life livable. In one device you get a fridge, freezer, microwave, and a charging station for your gadgets.

Commercial Eliminating Radio and MP3 RecorderHere’s a radio we can love. Hammacher and Schlemmer has comes up with a table radio that will eliminate commercials and annoying disc jockey banter for uninterrupted music playback at home or using the detachable MP3 player. Just select your favorite FM station and the radio will learn the commercial patterns over two to three days.

When the learning period is over, it automatically records songs and uploads them to the included portable MP3 player. The MP3 player allows you to play, pause, skip, fast forward, and rewind songs and comes with a AUX cable for connection to a car or home stereo.

Hands on: K-box portable speaker

Posted in Review by Conner Flynn on June 24th, 2009

K-box turns tables and walls into giant speakersWe told you about the K-box from Kerchoonz a few weeks ago. The portable speaker that aims to turn nearly any surface into a speaker with an emphasis on bass. It’s targeted at those who want sound on the go, but don’t want to carry bulky speakers with them.

It’s about the size of the iPhone and yes it really does turn your tables, walls and other flat surfaces into giant speakers. It works by plugging into your laptop, portable gaming device, netbook, mp3 player etc. Anything equipped with a headphone jack.
