Before you start reading this, be sure there is no one around that might hear you have the massive nerdgasm that is about to hit. Five street legal and working Tron Lightcycles designed after the ones in the new flick are going to land on eBay for sale.

Yeah, you read that right, these things look just like the lightcycles from the new flick and you can actually ride them on the road. Green geeks can get the bike with an electric motor, those not worried about pollution can opt for a gas motor, and transmission. The bikes are being built by a team from Parker Brothers.

There are a number of electric bikes and motorcycles on the market today. The good thing about these devices is that they are green and quiet. There are lots of folks that like to commute on electric bikes rather than drive cars.

VW is a major car brand that has not been tied to electric bikes before. The firm unveiled a new electric bike called the bik.e at the Auto China 2010 show. The bike is designed to fold up and fit into the spare tire area of a car.

I wish I were rich; I would buy any car/gadget/cool item that tickled my fancy. I would need a second house just for all the gadgets I would end up with and a massive garage full of cars and other toys. What I don’t think I would spend money on is an electric bike.

A company called M55 has a sweet electric bike that anyone into that sort of thing might be interested in. The bike is called the EVO-001 and is handmade with a single piece of aluminum for a frame. The electric motor is placed for stability.

There are tons of Bluetooth headsets for car drivers to use for hands free calls. I’m not user if there are as many available for motorcyclists though. BlueAnt has announced a new communications system for motorcycles called the F4.

The system will allow riders to make and receive phone calls while riding and supports A2DP technology. The system can stream stereo music form a Bluetooth device. It can also act as an intercom system for double eiders.

I haven’t been into riding bikes since I was like 10. There are lots of people in my area though that are really into riding bikes. I always wonder how safe it is to ride a bike in a city while wearing an MP3 player that blocks your hearing. After all, they wouldn’t be able to hear all the rednecks shouting profanities at them.

A company from Taiwan has a new MP3 player designed for portability and use without headphones called the Podio. The device is fully integrated into an 88mm long cylinder-shaped micro speaker. The music player portion of the device has 2GB of internal storage.

You use Best Buy for TVs, washing machines, computer peripherals and cell phones, so why not use them to shop for a $12,000 electric motorcycle? Why the hell not? Brammo and Best Buy have plans to sell the $11,995 Enertia electric motorcycle at five West Coast Best Buy stores in May.

Eventually Brammo would like to sell bikes at every Best Buy location around the world, but they want to see how the initial test works out. They should probably have pimply faced geek squad dudes drive around on them for promotion. And so they are diverted from touching anyone’s computer.

Bikes are a great environmentally friendly way to get around. But not so much when you’ve had a few drinks. That’s where this self-stabilizing bike comes in handy. It will keep you upright when you’ve had a few too many. It arrives in the world courtesy of researchers at Yokohama’s Keio University.

It’s equipped with two motors: one that moves the rear wheel about 2.5 meters per second while the other controls the handlebars. A linux controller keeps watch of everything via webcam and gyro sensor, steering the vehicle and adjusting its speed accordingly. Right now the bike is only able to stay upright when moving in a straight line, but before you know it they will have a system that can corner and work in the real world. So go ahead, drink up.

You want a sweet ride, while keeping the environment clean. The economy will bounce back eventually right? Have a look at the Electric GPR-S motorbike that helps you reduce your carbon footprint by relying on electricity to drive you around town. Anyone who has ridden a motorcycle knows that the person on the back can feel uncomfortable when you are in motion because sport bikes typically have no handles for the rear passenger to grab. When riding with your girlfriend its cool for her to wrap her arms around your waist, but other times waist holding isn’t so cool. When your boys want to go for a ride and you don’t trust them with your bike alone, it’s not so cool to have them hugging you.

A guy from Belgium has come up with a solution called the Tankgrip. The designer says the prototype took 4 months to build and ended up looking like a telephone handle on the tank of the bike. In the end he came up with a pair of handles that attach to the tank of a sport bike with a streamlined shape.

Why go with a traditional motorcycle, when you can ride into the future on this $82,350 glass/kevlar/carbon/steel MonoTracer bike? It features a fully enclosed cabin which reduces drag and helps keep pebbles and bugs out of your face. The MonoTracer’s 130hp BMW engine goes 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and hits speeds up to 155mph.

So the question is, if you are fully enclosed inside of this speed machine, what do you do at stop lights if you cant put your feet down? Apparently it has little wheels that pop out for parking. Admittedly, it could be faster. And it could have an airbag or two, but the future isn’t about wimpy safety. It’s about coolness and a Utopian look that ain’t cheap.

The LongRanger electric bike is basically a mountain bike with a motor assist. Yes, it’s street legal and not as dorky looking as some attempts at an eco friendly bike. You can build it to get up to 62 miles with a single charge and you can customize it to suit your needs by altering the top speed, acceleration, weight or range. Short or long distance travelling is not a problem.

You can even add a solar charger to the system so you don’t have to worry about maintenance. You are basically paying $14.99 USD for instructions on how to build the thing. It’s a great environmental alternative to loud noisy bikes while getting around at decent speeds.

I’m talking about the Bobby prototype electric bike from Yamaha motors. Pedestrians will never know what hit them, while you read your favorite blog. Aside from distracting you with the wonders of the web, the bike can be easily turned on and off using specific cell phones.

Some other features you can use when you are no longer impressed with having the web on 2 wheels are: a collapsible seat, fold-in rear wheel, handlebars and footrests making the bike a breeze to store.
