Happy Friday human readers. The way I see it, there are two kinds of humans: Those who mind their own damn business and those who create robots that will one day gut us, stuff us with candy, hang us from a tree and beat us senseless until candy comes pouring out. With virtually every computer maker and a few non-computer makers jumping into the netbook realm it can be hard to differentiate one netbook from the other in a consumers mind. All of the machines run the same hardware, software and offer virtually identical specifications.

Sharp unveiled a new netbook last week called the Mebius PC-NJ70A that set itself apart from the pack with a feature of dubious value — a second LCD where the track pad should be. The track pad controlled the cursor like you expect, but could also play video and accept handwriting to be converted into text on screen.

If you’re paranoid about your credit card info while shopping online, (And who isn’t?) it just got a little safer thanks to the SmartSwipe credit card reader. You might think you’re safe online as long as that padlock icon is displayed in your browser. And you are pretty safe, but not completely, hackers can still access your personal information while it is being entered into your computer and while it is still in memory.

With this SmartSwipe card reader your info is safe becaue your card information is never stored on your computer. The device uses Dynamic SSL technology and the same level of encryption used in bank machines and ATMs.

Nikita Buyanov made a bunch of concept laptops for HP-Intel, custom made specifically for women. The laptops come with a range of interesting features, aimed at the fairer sex. There’s some crazy stuff. Like laptops that double as weighing machines, some that carry makeup, with features like mirror mode and a built-in on-nail printing device. The Chameleon, for instance, changes color to blend with its surroundings.

The one that would likely be most offensive to women is pictured above, HP Makeup. It’s obscenely pink and if you press the big button, the screen will change to mirror mode so they can apply makeup. It also has an on-nail printing device.

Washing machines are big and bulky. They always have been. Therefore they could use a radical new design. The Sfera spherical washing machine is shaped like…Well a sphere. It’s small enough to take up residence in your bathroom somewhere and though it will save space, you won’t be able to do any big loads of laundry.

With that in mind, it would probably be good for the single midget bachelor, but not many others. The entire ball spins to get your clothes clean, you’ll just have to do laundry all day. And that’s the problem with small washing machines. About the only way to solve it is to put a washing machine above your toilet or in your bathroom wall.

Sometimes the coolest gadgets in Sci-Fi are not gadgets at all. But robots. Here’s a look at some of the most memorable robots from sci-fi in no particular order. It’s not a complete list. Think of it more as a walk down memory lane. Because geeks love Sci-Fi and Sci-Fi has a long history of loving robots.
