Xbox Live Silver to be called ‘Xbox Live Free Membership’

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on October 21st, 2010

It’s all in the name. Microsoft is renaming its free Xbox Live Silver service to “Xbox Live Free Membership,” according to a tweet from European community manager Graeme Boyd. Anything with free in the name does sound better to the ear. This comes alongside the refreshed Xbox.com and the Xbox Live Gold price hike, as part of an apparent pre-Kinect relaunch of the Xbox’s online presence.

The new name no longer emphasizes Silver’s status as subordinate to Gold, but instead highlights the advantage of that level of membership being free. In a followup tweet, Boyd clarified that the feature set for Silver won’t change.

Hug Me Pillow is like a comfy dismembered arm

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on February 10th, 2009

Hug Me Pillow is like a comfy dismembered armPillows should be comfy, soft, yet not too soft. A cloud if you will, that will gently carry you off to dreamland. They should not be anything like this Hug Me pillow, which is a pillow that looks like it was delivered by the mafia on a night when horse heads weren’t easy to come by.

Do you want to sleep in the embrace of a dismembered arm? I don’t. But I’m sure it’s perfect for serial killers and the deranged as it will remind them of their last or next victims. The manufacturer should have just went all the way and added the blood and entrails.

Paypal hands over 1,000 IP addresses of Anonymous attackers

Posted in Paypal by Conner Flynn on July 31st, 2011

Remember when Anonymous had a beef against Paypal last year for freezing Wikileaks‘ account and launched DDoS attacks against the billing and payment company? Well, some of the attackers have left behind enough information to be traceable. And now Paypal has handed over a list of 1,000 IP addresses to the FBI.

There’s no way to know whether the list of IP addresses are just a dump of attacking systems or whether Paypal’s investigation actually turned up some indication that these thousand IP addresses were orchestrating the attack. They have alluded to the notion that the addresses they handed over are some of the IPs that sent the most data.

Reporting earnings for its June quarter last Thursday, AT&T said it sold 3.6 million iPhones, which is more than the 3.2 million it sold during same period last year.

Verizon has sold 2.3 million in its second quarter. Together, the two carriers activated 11.7 million in the first half of 2011, that’s just 3.5 million under AT&T’s total iPhone sales for all of 2010. Remember this is a phone that’s been available for about a year already.
