iriver P8 player shows up on Russian site

Posted in iRiver by Conner Flynn on July 4th, 2011

iriver has not updated its P series of large-screen portable media players in quite some time, so you are likely as surprised as we are that this five-incher has shown up on the company’s Russian site. With a battery life of up to nine hours of video and 40 hours of audio to boot.

The P8 comes in 8GB and 16GB sizes, sports a microSD slot, and an HDMI port for pushing HD content to a TV. We have no idea if it will ever land on American shores or how much it will cost when it does, but we like what we see.

Unofficial Android MP3 Speakers

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on June 27th, 2011

These Android MP3 speakers may look like the real deal, but they appear to have “gotge” written on them, not Google. We don’t even care. They are still adorable.

Each one has a small full-range driver built into the bottom, and they also have colorful LEDs around the neck that light up when the music is playing. Pushing the droid’s head starts and stops the music, and turning it left or right adjusts the volume.

Fanhattan iPad app unites Hulu, iTunes, Netflix

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on June 1st, 2011

This app should make your life a bit easier. Fanhatten has launched a new iPad app (free in the App Store) that provides a consolidated view of movie and TV content from across multiple media sources. You can browse or search for content by title, genre, or actor no matter where it’s located. Current supported media sources include Netflix, Hulu Plus, iTunes and ABC Player.

The app takes users to the appropriate site or service instead of loading it within the app. You can search for your content and then it will display it through the media source where it is available. A lot of users are going to love this app.

Google kicks off Music Beta

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on May 10th, 2011

Google has taken its first steps into cloud media today with Music Beta, which allows users upload up to 20,000 songs that they can then stream from either a web browser or an Android device. Listeners can even “pin” music to a mobile device to have a permanent copy of those songs to play while “offline”. I wonder what Apple thinks about all of this.

There’s also a new playlist feature called Instant Mix, where Music Beta ‘listens’ to the music and uses the sound of the music to automatically generate a playlist. A Music Manager desktop app for Macs and Windows PCs will allow users to automatically grab and upload their iTunes or Windows Media Player collections to the cloud as well.

VUDU Launches In-Browser Movie Streaming

Posted in movies by Conner Flynn on April 13th, 2011

VUDU has announced that it will be starting a new movie streaming service from their website that will allow users to watch content directly from their browsers without requiring a VUDU set-top box, DVD player or VUDU enabled device. This should get the company more customers.

To use the new VUDU streaming service all you have to do is visit vudu.com, check out the selection available and purchase. Then you can start watching immediately. This will help VUDU compete with Netflix and Amazon, who both already have web browser streaming. The service will have the same titles found on the VUDU digital storefront but the quality of the video will be lower through web browsers.

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2011

Remember the Galaxy Player? (otherwise known as Galaxy S WiFi). It’s basically a Galaxy S phone without the 3G and calling functionality. You still get Android 2.2 and what you have is a media player or shrunken tablet.

Well, both the 4-inch Galaxy Player 4 and the 5-inch Galaxy Player 5 will be headed to the US this spring. Samsung isn’t talking exact timing or pricing yet though. This player is upgradable to Android 2.3, with full Market access and will be headed to the US sometime soon.

Verizon iPhone 4 also not recommended by Consumer Reports

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on February 27th, 2011

Consumer Reports announced that the Verizon iPhone 4 didn’t make their list of recommended phones. The reason is the same as before. It’s the antenna-gate issue once again. The Verizon iPhone 4 like it’s cousin, is also prone to drop calls in certain areas, according to Consumer Reports.

Consumer Reports says: “The Verizon iPhone 4 closely resembles the original AT&T iPhone 4 in many positive respects, including offering great multimedia functionality, a sharp screen, and the best MP3 player we’ve seen on a phone…Unfortunately, it also shares with its sibling the possibility of compromised performance in low-signal conditions when used without a bumper or case.”
