The BDP-N460 is the Sony Blu-ray player we’ve all been waiting for, but it’s missing a few important things. The most important being Wi-Fi. For $250 it streams video through Bravia Internet Video and that includes Netflix. In place of Wi-Fi, it features “specially designed” software for Linksys’s $100 Wi-Fi dongle. Ummm, that’s just not right Sony.

Once you add the $100 for the dongle, it’s about the same price as other Blu-Ray players on the market that actually have Wi-Fi.

Look at this. Routers are getting just a tad sexier after all. And if you have some media to share with those around you, the Linksys Wireless N Storage Router is a nice looking option. Cisco has introduced it’s Wireless Home Audio line and three new dual-drive NAS’ during CES 2009. The Wireless Home Audio system uses Ethernet, 802.11n, and DLNA to stream audio over multiple zones throughout your home.

Some of the new products are the Conductor DMC350 Wireless-N Digital Music Center, Director DMC250 Wireless-N Music Player with Integrated Amplifier, Player DMP100 Wireless-N Music Extender, Stereo Speaker Kit DSPK50, DMWR1000 Wireless-N Touchscreen Remote, iPod docking station and the DMRIR500 IR Remote. The price starts at $300 and goes up from there.

Linksys “by Cisco” is out today with word of a new dual-n band wireless router targeted at those with home network wireless needs. It is called the Linksys WRT610N and pricing is set around $200.

Linksys says its new WRT610N is designed to deliver 802.11n support in both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz spectrums, establishing what is described as “two networks” to connect devices to. It is also provides “entertainment optimized networking,” meaning network performance priority is given HD video content and similar types of digital media.

Linsys has a new wireless gaming adapter they are showing off at the annual CES conference this week in Las Vegas, boasting it as the first dual-band wireless-N gaming adapter on the market. The WGA600N rids the need for stringing CAT-5 cable from your router across the house and into the room with your game console(s) by providing a fast wireless adapter to connect them.

The new gaming router from Linksys will connect to the ethernet port of your Xbox, Playstation or Gamecube and bring online gaming or head-to-head matches with other games to your console without having to string the wires. The adapter can then connect to older 802.11a/b/g networks if needed or gets higher bandwidth when its available through a wireless-N network. According to Linksys the setup is pretty simple too, with no drivers needed. Just plug the adapter into the Ethernet port of your console and it will find the network and connect up.

Linksys has released some scant information about two new Media Center Extenders that they have slated for launch in November, designed to extend the reach of the digital media on your computer through the Windows Media Center.

One problem that a lot of people have with digital media, especially high-def movies, on their computer is having a way to get it out of the room with the computer an into their entertainment center. These extenders avoid having to have a dedicated computer in your entertainment room by streaming the content to your TV or home stereo.

Linksys has some new Wi-Fi products on the market as part of the new LinkSys RangePlus family which promises to increase the range of your home wireless network at affordable prices. The new products include a wireless router (WRT100), notebook adapter (WPC100), PCI adapter (WMP100) and USB Notebook adapter (WUSB100).

The WRT100 router (pictured here) has dropped the Linksys blue color and has taken the flat black look more common of its Cisco parent. The family of RangePlus products uses Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) technology to provide better coverage in a larger area with fewer dead spots. Although Linksys would like you to buy all the products as they are designed to work together, they will likely support the standard 802.11 b/g. The products do however feature some added features unique to Linksys that make setup a little easier.

If you keep hoping that the day will come when you can stop your TV broadcast in mid-stride and pick it up again from a different room there is a company located in Redmond, WA that you should know about. It’s called Microsoft.

The software giant is hoping on the day after the big Apple news to steal a little bit of the tech crowd’s attention with its announcement of Extenders for Windows Media Center, a range of applications for Windows Vista that Microsoft promises will make it easier for you to have media convergence in your home.

Apple and Cisco have reportedly come to an agreement out of court regarding the pesky lawsuit Cisco filed against Apple for trademark infringement on the iPhone name, according to the WSJ. This agreement comes after weeks of negotiations with multiple extensions granted by Cisco before Apple had to reply to federal court.

Late Thursday Cisco gave Apple one more week to respond with a formal reply in federal court to the trademark infringement lawsuit Cisco filed for the iPhone name.

Cisco had already granted Apple an extension earlier this month, but this additional extension may be further indicators that the two companies are coming to a resolution outside of the courtroom.

“Cisco is fully committed to using the extra time to reach a mutually beneficial resolution,” the company said in a statement.

The saga between Cisco and Apple officially continues a little longer before going to court for the trademark rights of the iPhone. The two companies issued a joint statement late yesterday citing that they have agreed to delay law suit procedures in order to try to come to some consensus outside of the courtroom.

“Apple and Cisco have agreed to extend the time for Apple to respond to the lawsuit to allow for discussions between the companies with the aim of reaching agreement on trademark rights and interoperability.”
