Obaku V140G is the world’s thinnest sports watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on February 20th, 2011

We’ve seen all kinds of watches here at the Brick, some packed with awesome features. But it seems like the more features you add, the more it weighs your wrist down. That isn’t fun at all. It’s nice when a watch is light and thin. The Obaku 7140G claims to be the slimmest sports watch ever. It certainly looks like that’s true.

Being slim and light is exactly what you want in a sports watch when you are running or playing in a tennis match. Ideally you want something that you don’t even know you are wearing. The design is even sleek and stylish in black.

Tokyoflash Kisai RPM watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on November 27th, 2010

Tokyoflash has released its latest watch design, the Kisai RPM. This is the first concept to become a reality from the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog and it is based on an idea from a Tokyoflash fan from the UK, James Fursedon.

The Tokyoflash Kisai RPM is easy to read, unlike some of their watches. The hours are shown on the inner ring, while five minute intervals are shown on the outer ring. Four single minutes are positioned at the top of the display along side the AM/PM indicator. Lights showing the current time will flash for several seconds to make it easier to read.

Tokyoflash watch concept is one I can actually use

Posted in Watches by Shane McGlaun on September 10th, 2010

I would say 99% of the watches that I see over on Tokyoflash are not something I would use. Let’s be honest, watches without numbers still through a lot of us off so having to decipher gobs of symbols that tell the time is just way more than I care to put up with. I will say that the watches are usually pretty cool though.

Tokyoflash has a new watch concept that is easy to use and was designed by a 14-year-old. The watch has numbers spelled out in one long run on all the way down the screen. The worlds are grey by default and when they are needed to tell the time the light up in blue.

This one looks pretty cool and Sci-Fi like with bright green lights. As usual, it’s hard to figure out how you tell the time at first. The outer bars indicate the hours, while the minutes are shown in the center in large digital numerals.

Sometimes gadgets make it to market that should have stayed at the concept stage. Such is the case with the really weird looking Avatar 1259B Watch that is available to purchase at Yanko Design.

This is one of the rare concept watches that Yanko shows off that you can actually buy. It uses 12 LED lights on the circular face to show hours, five LEDs show tens of minutes, and nine other LEDs show the minutes.

A watch with volcanic ash from the Icelandic volcano

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on April 22nd, 2010

This watch comes from the same guy who brought us this watch, with moon dust and parts from Apollo 11. He managed to get his hands on some of the ashes from the Icelandic Eyjafjallajökull volcano very quickly.

The damn thing only erupted a week ago. The design looks appropriately burnt and molten. The catch is that there’s only one available. The price isn’t listed because it would send you into cardiac arrest.

The new Kisai Keisan watch uses a unique convex lens that magnifies the lighting effect from the LEDs behind the numbers in the watch face.

If you’re familiar with Tokyoflash watches, and I know you are, since you read the ‘Brick, you’ll know that reading the time will take some getting used to. To tell the time on this watch, just add the digits in each of the four vertical lines of numbers. The Keisan features an aluminum body and comes in silver (with orange or yellow leds), or black (with red or green LEDs).

Time Tuner Alarm Clock looks like analog

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

Time Tuner Alarm Clock looks like analogHere’s a great design that can’t make up it’s mind as to whether it’s from the future or the past. We like it. The Time Tuner was created by Istanbul-based Antrepo Design Industry, who decided against the traditional digital clock face. It instead boasts an analog style that resembles a radio tuner.

It’s a lot like our favorite watches from Tokyoflash. The numbers along the length of the dial light-up to show you the hour. At the same time, an illuminated vertical red line moves across the dial for minutes. If you’re looking for a clock with style, look no further.

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on August 26th, 2008

Rogue watch from TokyoflashHere’s Tokyoflash’s newest hard to read and futuristic timepiece for those who love these hard-to-read-watches. With the LCD interface, the time can be read at a glance but it can also be illuminated with sci-fi green LEDs, so that when you touch the button, it resembles a glowing radar screen. It sports a solid stainless steel strap which can be adjusted.

So how do you read this one? The outer ring dots are the minutes, every fifth dot being slightly smaller to distinguish five minutes. The ring of large blocks represents rough minutes, the position of the gap indicating approximate minutes. The inner ring of blocks represents hours, the position of the gap in the ring showing the current hour as on a clock face. It will set you back $154.
