Level Twelve Wooden PC

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2010

The Level Twelve casemod from Jeffrey Stephenson is pretty decent looking if you like wood. The box is constructed from Teak and Birds Eye Maple and holds a 2TB hard drive, an optical drive and four front mounted USB ports.

Other specs of this mod include an i7-processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB Crucial C300 SSD and a Lenovo H320 case. Jeff makes computer cases look damn good. If we had computers in the 1950′s they would look like this.

Lenovo S800 phone with translucent display

Posted in Lenovo by Conner Flynn on November 29th, 2010

Lenovo really likes the idea of a transparent screen on your smartphone. And so the company just presented the Lenovo S800 at a Chinese expo. The company says that the S800 is just a concept at the moment, but stresses that it is using a color display.

At any rate, image quality is sort of irrelevant on a translucent screen, so why should color matter? We have no idea if the S800 will become a commercial product, but we’d like to see where they can take this.

Lenovo LePad headed to US in 2011

Posted in Lenovo by Conner Flynn on November 14th, 2010

Good news if you are waiting for Lenovo’s LePad. CEO Yang Yuanqing has told the Wall Street Journal that the Android tablet is scheduled for a 2011 US launch. Lenovo’s COO Rory Read had previously said that the LePad wouldn’t ship in the US until a tablet-ready version of Android was ready to go, so apparently the company is confident that Google will deliver.

The tablet has been pushed into 2011 in China as well.

ArcadeDock turns your Lenovo laptop into a retro arcade cabinet

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on October 14th, 2010

The ArcadeDock Laptop Dock is an awesome mod. It’s a half-height arcade machine, with retro art, the necessary joystick and large buttons and a secret place for a touchpad-equipped keyboard. Basically it is designed to hold an IdeaPad Y560, and when connected via USB, it functions just like any arcade cabinet.

Pretty awesome. Though it looks pretty uncomfortable to play. Still, it’s worth any back pain you might endure to play a lenovo Ideapad through a Street Fighter 4 emblazoned arcade cabinet.

Lenovo announces ThinkPad Edge 11

Posted in Lenovo by Conner Flynn on September 28th, 2010

Lenovo’s latest ThinkPad Edge 11 is an ultraportable but it packs in the performance. It will ship with AMD’s single and dual-core Nile platform, and Intel’s Core i3/i5 processor options. Sadly Lenovo has no plans of releasing this one in the states.

So the X100e will still be the champion in the US, with the Edge 11 becoming its counterpart overseas. The AMD version is cheaper, with prices that start at $450, while the Intel-powered model is more about $550.

Lenovo P90W Dual-SIM Cell Phone

Posted in Lenovo by Conner Flynn on July 7th, 2010

Well this phone sure has an odd form factor. The Lenovo P90W features an interesting hinge design that allows it to be flipped open in either portrait or landscape mode. We assume it comes in colors other than pink, but we aren’t sure.

This pink wonder is also a dual-SIM Phone, so you’ll be able to use two SIM cards when you need to. No mention of price yet, but some specs include a 3-inch 240 x 400 pixel display, 3.2-megapixel camera, microSD card expansion, Bluetooth, GSM and UMTS support, and a QWERTY keyboard.

Lenovo Skylight Smartbook to get Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon Processor?

Posted in Netbook by Conner Flynn on June 29th, 2010

We haven’t heard any news about this one since back in April. While the delay of Lenovo’s Skylight smartbook is disappointing, it gives Lenovo some time to swap in a newer, more powerful, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor.

The Skylight smartbook should be powered by Google’s Android OS when it is finally released before the end of the year. The processor would certainly make this one more attractive to buyers.
