Circular Lego saw really works

Posted in lego by Conner Flynn on June 6th, 2010

A saw made out of Lego bricks, but with a real blade is a hospital trip just waiting to happen. This thing really works. So I hope they’ve alerted the local ER. This Lego saw can cut through a 2×4, so limbs should be no problem.

Just to be extra safe, the tips have been removed from the blade and it’s set to stop if you touch it. But still. I don’t trust this Lego saw one bit. But it is a cool creation. I’m now looking forward to the Lego nail gun and jackhammer. Once those are ready, I can make my own Lego themed construction site where our hard hats snap onto our heads and the buildings are many colored bricks.

15 awesome Star Trek Lego creationsIt’s a shame that Lego doesn’t have the Star Trek license. There are so many cool ships and scenes from the Star Trek universe that could be built by kids and adults. Instead, it’s up to Lego enthusiasts to create their Trek masterpieces. Below are 15 that we like, but the universe is filled with so many more.

Cellos made of Lego bricks are all well and good and we really dig Lego combination safes, but Star Trek Lego creations are the “logical” choice.

Fully-functional LEGO combination safeRemember that cool working Lego safe we featured awhile back? Well now somebody has created a fully functional Lego combination safe. Just put all of your valuables in this thing and they will be…well, not safe really. We’re talking Legos. But it might be fun to build one.

Just follow Merijn van Wouden’s lead and the link for detailed step-by-step instructions and a cool video to show how the mechanisms work. Hey, you gotta put your monopoly money somewhere.

LEGO House is an amazingly detailed computer

Posted in lego by Conner Flynn on February 15th, 2009

LEGO House is an amazingly detailed computerWe’ve seen some pretty impressive Lego creations. Whether it’s the Lego Uzi, the Lego Playstation, or the old Lego safe, one thing is for sure. We love playing with Legos.

This functional LEGO house is a working computer. But the amount of detail that went into it is simply stunning. You could look at it all day and still find more things that you missed. Sadly, the display was not given the LEGO treatment. Hit the link below for a video.

Working LEGO PlayStation

Posted in lego by Conner Flynn on December 11th, 2008

Working LEGO PlayStationLegos are good enough to build a safeand countless statues, so why not a PlayStation?

This mod is the work of a clever high school modder who completed the project one night, instead of chasing girls and boozing it up. See kids, a clean life will yield great Lego geek toys. Looks like this kid basically just gutted his PS and inserted the innards into a custom Lego case. Which doesn’t make it easy, just simple.

Voice-Activated Biometric Safe is…safe

Posted in Security by Conner Flynn on November 18th, 2008

Voice-Activated Biometric Safe is…safeWe sure got a ton of nerd rage regarding that Lego safe we posted last night. If you find the Lego safe to be not safe enough, maybe this safe is more up your alley. With the Voice-Activated Biometric Safe, you can be sure that your nerd-stuff (Like that valuable signed William Shatner album) stays safe and sound.

It will only open with a voice command! Once the proper sound waves of your voice are heard, the door will open automatically. If someone tries and fails, the alarm will sound. Of course, someone will just record your voice and can probably get in that way. It’s only $24.99 and takes three AA batteries.

Lego Safe is ultra secure

Posted in Security by Conner Flynn on November 17th, 2008

Legos SafeYou might think that a Lego safe would be easy to open. Maybe just remove a few bricks and you’re in. But that’s not the case with this thing, the cutting edge of Lego safe technology. The safe weighs 14 pounds and has a motion detecting alarm so it can’t be moved without creating a huge ruckus.

The lock takes five double digit codes to open it. That translates into over 305 billion different combinations. It even boasts an electronic status display showing the numbers as you turn the combination dials. When you enter the combination, the door electronically opens itself. It’s a great place to store all of your valuable geek stuff. Check out a video below.

LEGO security bracelet for kids

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on October 30th, 2008

LEGO security bracelet for kidsThis concept security bracelet for kids comes from a project led by Rodrigo Torres. The idea is that if you combine a security bracelet with LEGO, kids will be more apt to wear it and be tracked for safety reasons. It’s got several features that will get your kid to keep it with him/her.

First off, they can design it the way they like with LEGO bricks. Throw in some games, photos, speaker and the a Lego man in front, and your kid is suckered into being tracked while having a fun device of their own. Heck, I want one myself. I don’t care if it’s tracking me. Sadly, it remains but a concept at the moment.

Working LEGO V8 engine

Posted in Toys by Conner Flynn on October 1st, 2008

LEGO V8 engineWe mean works as in it does stuff like move and light up. It doesn’t suck gas. Proving that with enough time, Lego pieces and will, you can make anything, some guy made an actual Lego V8 engine. It took 4 months to complete.

Which is probably why GM and Ford choose not to use Legos. Plus Lego cars are super heavy and hard to sit in. Plus next thing you know, you’d have Lego and Duplo monopolizing the car market and that wouldn’t be good. Still I suppose they could arrange for the outside of 50% of Lego cars to have the bricks facing inward and half facing outward so that when they crash, they have a 50/50 chance of either crashing or interlocking which should be safer.
