Voice-Activated Biometric Safe is…safe

Posted in Uncategorized by Conner Flynn on November 18th, 2008

Voice-Activated Biometric Safe is…safeWe sure got a ton of nerd rage regarding that Lego safe we posted last night. If you find the Lego safe to be not safe enough, maybe this safe is more up your alley. With the Voice-Activated Biometric Safe, you can be sure that your nerd-stuff (Like that valuable signed William Shatner album) stays safe and sound.

It will only open with a voice command! Once the proper sound waves of your voice are heard, the door will open automatically. If someone tries and fails, the alarm will sound. Of course, someone will just record your voice and can probably get in that way. It’s only $24.99 and takes three AA batteries.

Lego Safe is ultra secure

Posted in Security by Conner Flynn on November 17th, 2008

Legos SafeYou might think that a Lego safe would be easy to open. Maybe just remove a few bricks and you’re in. But that’s not the case with this thing, the cutting edge of Lego safe technology. The safe weighs 14 pounds and has a motion detecting alarm so it can’t be moved without creating a huge ruckus.

The lock takes five double digit codes to open it. That translates into over 305 billion different combinations. It even boasts an electronic status display showing the numbers as you turn the combination dials. When you enter the combination, the door electronically opens itself. It’s a great place to store all of your valuable geek stuff. Check out a video below.

Geek Soccer using Wii Fit & LEGO Mindstorms

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 10th, 2008

Here’s an interesting way to kill an afternoon. Apparently a couple of guys hooked up two Wii Fit balance boards to LEGO Mindstorms…something, and made them move in sync with leaning and jumping motions. While I don’t think this game is going to get you fit, it’s a clever hack. Maybe Nintendo can change the Lego things into battle bots and market the whole deal as some sort of Ultimate robot fighter game for the those who don’t mind obesity all that much. Hacking Wii-Fit isn’t new, but this one puts a whole new spin on things.

LEGO security bracelet for kids

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on October 30th, 2008

LEGO security bracelet for kidsThis concept security bracelet for kids comes from a project led by Rodrigo Torres. The idea is that if you combine a security bracelet with LEGO, kids will be more apt to wear it and be tracked for safety reasons. It’s got several features that will get your kid to keep it with him/her.

First off, they can design it the way they like with LEGO bricks. Throw in some games, photos, speaker and the a Lego man in front, and your kid is suckered into being tracked while having a fun device of their own. Heck, I want one myself. I don’t care if it’s tracking me. Sadly, it remains but a concept at the moment.

Amazing Lego Ferrari F1

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on October 17th, 2008

Amazing Lego Ferrari F1Is there nothing that LEGO can not do? This is one of the coolest LEGO things yet. To promote and celebrate Lego World, which apparently started yesterday, this highly detailed LEGO Ferrari F1 was seen cruising the streets of Amsterdam. Jetix presenter, Leon Krijgsman rode in the Ferrari, made using 80,000 Lego bricks. Lego World will run till the 21st of this month in Zwolle, and will offer tons of Lego craziness. This awesome Ferrari celebrates the anniversary of the legendary brick. One has to wonder just how heavy that F1 is comapred to the real deal.

Brick LEGO radiator keeps nerds warm

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on October 15th, 2008

Brick LEGO radiator keeps nerds warmIt will be cold soon as winter comes. What better way to warm our geek hearts and our homes then with this LEGO radiator? It beats the hell out of the typical ugly radiator and let’s face it, it goes with your decor since you have all those LEGO pieces laying around. Appropriately, it’s called the Brick and it’s a real radiator designed by architect Marco Baxadonne for radiator maker Scirocco.

Interestingly the LEGO pieces are pretty efficient at spreading the heat with their surface area. Inside you’ll find that the plumbing inside allows you to snap them together just like LEGO. Pretty neat.

Microsoft announces new 360 bundles for the holidays

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on October 10th, 2008

Microsoft announces new 360 bundles for the holidaysMicrosoft isn’t messing around this holiday season. They want consoles in homes. They dropped the price on all Xbox 360 SKU’s a few months ago, and it just got better. Microsoft has announced that later this month the new 360’s will hit store shelves with some free games included.

With the $199 Arcade, you’ll get 6 games, which includes SEGA Superstars Tennis, Uno, and Pac-Man. If you choose to spend more for either the $299 Pro or $399 Elite version, and you’ll get Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda. Plus, all three will come with a trial subscription to Netflix. That might seem odd, but beginning next month you’ll be able to stream Netflix movies to your 360.

Working LEGO V8 engine

Posted in Toys by Conner Flynn on October 1st, 2008

LEGO V8 engineWe mean works as in it does stuff like move and light up. It doesn’t suck gas. Proving that with enough time, Lego pieces and will, you can make anything, some guy made an actual Lego V8 engine. It took 4 months to complete.

Which is probably why GM and Ford choose not to use Legos. Plus Lego cars are super heavy and hard to sit in. Plus next thing you know, you’d have Lego and Duplo monopolizing the car market and that wouldn’t be good. Still I suppose they could arrange for the outside of 50% of Lego cars to have the bricks facing inward and half facing outward so that when they crash, they have a 50/50 chance of either crashing or interlocking which should be safer.

The Brick photo frame is like Lego for girls

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on September 19th, 2008

The Brick photo frame is like Lego for girlsThe ‘Brick does not endorse this girlly brick thing. It’s basically a Lego photo frame from Brando, for little girls or those with girlly cubicles. You don’t attach other bricks to it. Instead you attach little flowery accessories like a clock, hair brush, cell phone, and hair dryer for some reason. Looks like it comes in white and purple.

You’ll want to hide this in the same spot you hide your Hannah Montana stuff, so your co-workers don’t make fun and call you a sissy girlly man. But if you’re going to buy this for your little girl, it will cost you $16, even though the whole thing is pretty lame. I’m sure she has Legos already and can make this herself.

Lego NXT autonomous Wall-E robot is the coolest yet

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on September 10th, 2008

Lego NXT autonomous Wall-E robotBazmarc from the Trossen Robotics Community Forums has built a Lego Wall-E that kills all others dead. It has more movement, therefore more cuteness. It’s the Lego NXT Autonomous Wall-E Robot! Of course it looks like Wall-E, but also has some impressive features. Like I said, it’s movements blow other Wall-E Lego projects away. The result is that it’s more genuine. It’s a TRC Project Contest entry and though they haven’t even announced the contest yet, I can’t imagine anything else beating this little guy.

Technical specs: Technical specs: 1 Mindstorms NXT with rechargable pack, 3 Lego NXT Servo Motors, 4 Lego PowerFonctions motors, 2 PF IR receiver, 1 UltraSonic sensor, 1 Sound sensor, 1 InfraRed link sensor, (HiTechnic), 1 NXTservo module and 1 mini RC servo, (Mindsensors), 10 AA batteries, Lego parts mainly from the Bulldozer set #8275 and other parts from various technic sets. Check out a short video below.

The LEGO Brick backpack holds schoolbooks, LEGOS

Posted in Apparel by Conner Flynn on September 1st, 2008

The LEGO Brick backpack holds schoolbooks, LEGOSThe time is now for a LEGO backpack my fellow geeks. What with back to school and all. Obviously it’s awesome because it looks like a LEGO brick, but just think, it not only will carry your schoolbooks, but you can also fill it up with LEGOS so you can easily transport all your bricks and build something cool wherever you go.

I know what you’re thinking. Won’t I look uncool? Won’t I get beat up if I wear that? You just might and that’s not my problem. But I figure if you’ve got nerd nads enough to buy this thing, you probably have no problem wearing it whatever the consequences. Each of the little “brick nipples”(Hey, what do you call them?) is an individual zippered storage compartment, so it’s got plenty of storage.

Donkey Kong would love the USB Beer Barrel speaker

Posted in Speakers by Conner Flynn on August 11th, 2008

Donkey Kong would love the USB Beer Barrel speaker
If Donkey Kong were created today instead of hundreds of years ago, this is what Donkey Kong would throw at Mario. Since it’s a speaker, the Donkey Kong theme music could play right from the barrel as Mario jumps over it. But never mind the weird connections that my brain associates with certain gadgets.

This beer barrel thing is a portable speaker for your phone or laptop. For some reason. Very portable and a great accessory to bring with you when you travel, since it will fit in your suitcase easily. You can get it for $14.00 from Brando. If any Princess-napping apes are reading this, buy these and throw them at Mario. Because I’d really like to see that.

The Lego Brick PC

Posted in Cases by Conner Flynn on August 10th, 2008

The Lego Brick PCLegos aren’t just for play you know. They can also be used to construct and even fix important real life things that you can use. Like this Lego PC case for example. Looking like some shiny black monolith, it’s made entirely out of black Lego bricks. Look how nice and shiny that is. He didn’t just randomly put Lego bricks together either. He used MLCAD to specifically design the PC before building.

The PC is a Mini-ITX form factor that allows for a low power PC inside, which runs a 1.5GHz VIA C7 processor and has a 250GB Seagate hard drive. It’s even got dual gigabite ports on the JetWay motherboard. Very nice. Check out the below video to see how he did it. Yet another real life situation solved by Legos. Have you played with Legos today?

Lego Donkey Kong that moves

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on August 10th, 2008

Lego Donkey Kong that movesHere’s something that makes my cold geek heart melt, skip a beat and pop out of my chest cartoon style. This Lego version of Donkey Kong actually moves people! It moves! It’s alive! Rolling barrels roll. Donkey Kong throws rolling barrels at Mario and Mario jumps. Have a look at the video below.

Pretty awesome invention. I’m not joking when I say that it’s right up there with the toaster and the waffle maker. The guy even made it play the Donkey Kong game start song. If I were rich I would create a Think tank with guys like this, throw a trillion bucks at them and see what else they could do. I would advance geekery and nerdum ahead by a good thousand years.
