We’ve always liked reporting about new LaCie external hard drives – they are typically very cool looking. It is a no-brainer therefore to let you know about the company’s quiet release of some new models, with the one grabbing our eye the most being the LaCie Desktop Hard Disk 1TB model.

The 1TB LaCie Desktop Hard Disk isn’t the best looking external hard drive ever released by the company but it still will look pretty nice sitting on your desk none the less. Beyond the simple black design you’ll find what LaCie says is a quiet and compact product for its size. It is USB 2.0 capable when connecting to a PC or Mac.

LaCie has been busying showing off new external hard drives at CES. Another one of its announcements is the new LaCie d2 Quadra, available in various storage configurations and starting at around $200.

The LaCie d2 Quadra is designed for professional use primarily. It’s available in multiple interface options – eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB – and sports an aluminum heat sink system to keep things cool. The d2 Quadra has been designed with RAID use in mind – one can connect two more more drives o the host in either RAID 1 for data redundancy and protection, or striped together in RAID 0 for faster data transfers.

LaCie today announced at CES 2008, the new Little Big Disk Quadra, an ultra fast mobile disk designed for speed-intensive and capacity-demanding applications, like digital content creation, high-volume data exchange, and video editing, while on the move. The Little Big Disk is designed to run quietly and has superior heat dissipation with an integrated fanless cooling system. The aluminum heat-sink design also ensures superior reliability.

The Little Big Disk Quadra will be available in 400GB and 500GB versions with your choice of either 7200 or 5400 RPM drives, respectively. A quadruple interface allows universal connectivity for cross-platform compatibility.

LaCie, a developer of innovative hard drive units, is unveiling a number of interesting new products at the Consumer Electronics Show. One of these is the LaCie LaCinema Premier, currently available in a 500GB capacity for around $230.

The LaCie LaCinema Premier is a self-described multimedia hard drive equipped with USB 2.0 ports. It’s designed to hold digital music, video and photo files transferred onto it from a host computer. Once transferred you are supposed to connect it to a home theater system so you can enjoy your digital entertainment through features like optical output and 1080i video upscaling.

LaCie has put out its share of interesting looking external drives like the Sam Hecht designers and of course that golden number, and they’ve now added to the lineup with this minimalist design from Neil Poulton.

The LaCie Hard Disk, named as simple as it looks, consists of an unobtrusive smooth black box with few distinguishing marks other than the cool blue LED strip (everyone likes cool blue LED strips) on the underbelly and the LaCie brand name on the side. The company says it even runs quietly and cool since it has no fan and uses a “smart” heat dissipation design.

The people from LaCie never seem to rest. The latest product from the bowels of this storage device company is the LaCie 2big Network, available in November in various storage sizes up to 2TB.

The LaCie 2big Network is designed as a backup solution for small office environments. It sports a Gigabit Ethernet connection and two RAID modes for mirroring each other or providing larger storage capacity. A web-based administration page lets one offer customized access to various users both in the network and for remote access.

LaCie has really been busy of late cranking out new storage devices. Its latest product, announced today, is a home version of its Ethernet Disk mini NAS drive. The LaCie Ethernet Disk mini – Home Edition is priced at around $200 and will be available in October.

The LaCie Ethernet Disk mini – Home Edition is a 500GB personal media server which offers Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0 connectivity. It allows users the ability to offer remote access to others for files stored on it and can also be used to back up and synchronize a home computer automatically. It also lets one stream multimedia files through DLNA-compatible UPnP media players and acts as an iTunes music server.

You want one backup device which supports multiple interfaces for backing up data and can store a lot of information. LaCie thinks it may have the answer with its new LaCie 2big Triple, available in October at a starting price of around $400.

The LaCie 2big Triple is available in 1, 1.5 and 2TB versions via a two-disk RAID design. 2big Triple supports FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. It’s pre-formatted for Mac users, though it can be converted easily to Windows. Backups can be done via a one-touch process and the drive sports a natural cooling heat sink metal design.

Aesthetics are not something people usually talk about when it comes to Hard Drives and portable storage devices, but would you rather have a clunky box sitting on your desk or a slick looking portable storage device like the LaCie devices pictured here? Designed by renowned designer Sam Hecht, this new line of machines do what they’re told and look good doing it.

The LaCie Little Disk line will provide a capacity of 30 to 250GB in 1.8 inch and 2.5 inch drives both of which support the USB 2.0 interface. Additionally the 2.5 inch version will be available with Firewire connectivity and a one-click synchronization and back up function. The drives are available now with prices starting at $90 USD.

Palm has officially announced the release of the first major revision to the Palm hardware with the new Treo 500v 3G smartphone, coming to Europe via Vodafone October 1. The new sleek looking Treo will come in two different colors of glacier white or charcoal grey.

The 500v will be running on Windows Mobile 6 and supports Direct Push along with POP3 for email connections. It also houses IE mobile with access to Google Maps and eBay and will have Vodafone live! for accessing sports, news, etc.

LaCie is taking what we’ll call artistic freedoms with its newest external hard drive solution. Open your wallets and expect to shovel out around $190 for the Golden Disk come late October.

The LaCie Golden Disk is designed by French designer Ora-Ïto and has 500GB of storage. It’s described as being a “sleek, liquid-inspired device” and should definitely spark some conservations as people pass by your cube. It supports USB 2.0, can be used with Windows and Mac and does, in fact, contain a small percentage of real gold.

LaCie is thinking big with its latest external hard drive. 2TB big that is. Stomping through the computer lowlands now is the LaCie Big Disk Extreme+. It’s priced at between $350 and $850, depending upon the total storage size you need.

The LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ is available in 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB capacities. It supports the three major interfaces for transferring files from a Mac or Windows machine to its storage, using FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. It also comes with backup software which can be launched via a one-button press on the body of the drive.

LaCie announced the release of its new external Blu-ray capable DVD Burner. Named the “LaCie d2 Blu-ray Drive,” it supports external connection via either USB or FireWire. LaCie made the announcement at CES 2007. The company is claiming that the d2 is one of the first of its kind.
