Regen ReNu is a sexy and green iPhone charger

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on October 25th, 2009

Regen ReNu is a sexy and green iPhone chargerSure, there are plenty of solar powered chargers to charge your gadgets, but few are as sexy or as versatile as the forthcoming Regen ReNu. The solar panel is used along with one of several optional bases. These include an iPod/iPhone dock, a sound dock with it’s own speakers, and an LED desk lamp.

The built in battery constantly stores juice even when your iPod isn’t docked, so that the ReNu can then transfer the charge into your device. It can even pull power from a wall socket if you don’t have light in your space.

Rotary phone iPod dock

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on October 22nd, 2009

Rotary phone iPod dockThe RotariPhone is an iPod dock and speaker system built into an old rotary phone. It’s alot like this one from last December, but it looks more polished.

Just put your iPod in the cradle where you’d normally hang up the phone. The handset sits on its side and plays your music through where the phone’s speaker and mic used to be. It’s an awesomely retro design, and when not in use looks like a standard phone.

The device can be charged via a miniUSB port. A full charge should last up to 12 hours for non-stop audio. Comes in your choice of a crystal hard case or half-mirror design. There are also other colors available.

Moshimy iPhone dock is cool

Posted in Concepts by Shane McGlaun on October 7th, 2009

ipoddockconceptYou know most iPod docks tend to look the same. You can pretty much count on them being boxy and black no matter what the brand is. Sure, you can find some in other colors but the majority are rather bland looking. A cool design concept for an iPod dock called Moshimy has been unveiled that looks cool.

The dock is aimed at the iPod or iPhone user and was designed by Michael Young for Native Union. The device has a brushed aluminum cover and an olive green body. The dock slides in and out of the base of the device for a sleeker profile when not in use.

iRock iPod Air Guitar concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on September 29th, 2009

iRock iPod Air Guitar conceptThis air guitar defies convention by not being made of air at all, but it’s still an awesome idea. It was designed by Julien Duquesnoy. The iRock is basically a guitar frame with a spot in the center for your iPod. See where this is going?

The neck of the guitar is a speaker, so what you have is a complete self-contained instrument of rock. The iRock is constructed of lightweight aluminum and would fit the iPod Classic and iPod Touch. It’s just a concept right now, but we can see this thing being produced and selling well.

Hands on: Logitech Speaker System Z323

Posted in Review by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2009

Hands on: Logitech Speaker System Z323Good speaker systems are hard to find. Especially if you want a small form, with big sound. And bass is usually disappointing in these small systems. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been disappointed with speakers that don’t deliver. So I decided to give Logitech’s Z323 a try.

These speakers are acoustically engineered to project audio evenly in all directions, not just one. The idea is that you hear the full range of sound throughout a room. Another interesting feature is the down-firing woofer designed to deliver rich, deep bass. The two satellite speakers claim to produce warm mid-range tones and crisp high notes. You can plug in your Logitech Squeezebox, gaming console, iPod or DVD player. So what did we think of the Z323? Read on.

Bowers & Wilkins announces Zeppelin Mini iPod dock

Posted in Bowers & Wilkins by Shane McGlaun on September 17th, 2009

bwzepplinminiOne of the better iPod docks that I have tested in recent years was the cool (and pointy) Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin. The only real downside to that thing was that it was very large for a speaker dock. I guess B&W felt the same way and the company has unveiled a new smaller Zeppelin Mini iPod dock.

Ironically, the only simularity between the original Zeppelin and the new Zeppelin Mini is the name. The Mini has a rotating docking arm that allows the iPod to be turned to landscape mode for viewing album art. The device also has a USB port to allow you to stream music from PMPs attached via USB as well as your Mac or PC.
