When it comes to recording things like band practice, lectures, and interviews the plain digital recorders often are lacking when it comes to getting quality recordings. Zoom has offered its H2 recorder already and it is one of the more popular handheld recorders out there.

Zoom has now announced its latest handheld recorder called the Zoom H1 Handy Recorder. The device uses the same mics in an X/Y pattern as the larger H2 uses. It can record in 24-bit 96 kHz stereo quality.

I don’t like taking my gadgets near water or to places where dust is an issue. I don’t want to kill my gear with an accidental splash or getting dust into the works. Grace Digital Audio has a new speaker for the iPhone, iPod and any other device with a 3.5mm headphone port that will protect your device while you listen.

The new speaker is called the Eco Extreme and it has a 3-inch full range driver in the front and attaches to a bag with a 2-inch carabiner. The speaker is rubberized to protect it from drops and is water resistant to IPX7 standards.

Onkyo has announced their new all-in-one desktop PC with integrated iPod dock. The Onkyo E713A9B is powered by an Intel Core i5-650 processor running at 3.20GHz, with 4GB of RAM (upgradable up to 8GB), a 1TB hard disk drive and a large 23-inch LCD screen with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080).

The multimedia all-in-one PC features a Blu-ray drive, DTS Premium Suite Audio Codec, 5-watt speakers, a 1.3MP webcam, a digital TV tuner and an SDXC memory card slot.

It’s just a concept at the moment, but David Boyce’s flOw has a lot of potential. The five-speaker set can be arranged into an iPod docking station, but unlike other docks, any of the speakers can be taken somewhere else while the music follows wirelessly.

The real interesting part is that each ball has integrated gesture sensors and accelerometers, allowing you to turn down the volume by turning it over or you can switch tracks simply by shaking the speaker. Shake it lightly and you get a soft jam, shake it hard and you get Heavy Metal.

This Resonance iPod Speaker Dock looks familiar. Like a familiar Apple product. It does do some unique tricks though. It uses resonance to transmit the sound from your iPod or iPhone through a hard surface like a wooden table, or marble floor.

There’s also an audio amplifier, but we’re skeptical about the audio quality that this device delivers. With it’s 3.5mm line-in jack, you can hook up non-Apple audio devices as well.

Portable rocking with your guitar just got easier. IK Multimedia has unveiled the AmpliTube iRig: an easy-to-use instrument interface adapter and guitar/bass tone mobile software. Using the AmpliTube iRig, you can plug your guitar into your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad and jam anywhere you want.

Just plug the iRig interface into your device, and then plug your instrument into the input jack, plug in your headphones, amp or powered speakers, and download the free AmpliTube app. You’re good to go. Rock out.

This guy created a music app and installed it on multiple Android and WinMo phones, and even an iPod Touch. Then taped them together to make a bizarre looking guitar, on which he can play Cracklin’ Rose.

It wasn’t easy. He ended up writing it three times: in java for android, in C# for windows mobile and in Objective-C for iPhone. To play them all at once, he just taped them on a piece of wood together with a battery powered speaker, then added lots of audio cables.

The OZAKI iMini Cute IP830RAINBOW iPod dock from Japan lives up to it’s name, as it comes in a range of rainbow colors that will appeal to those of you who need more color in your life. Features include an integrated FM radio, a built-in speaker, a 2″ full range driver unit and amp, and an LCD display.

It also doubles as an alarm clock and can connect to other compatible devices via the Line IN port. It will cost you about $75 after conversion and hits Japan May 15th.

iHome has been in the market for accessories like docks for the iPhone and iPod for a long time now. The company has announced that its iP90 alarm clock dock for the devices has been updated for 2010.

The iP90 has a larger display now than previous models and better sound. The treble and bass are adjustable and the device uses Reson8 stereo speaker chambers. Other features include multiple alarms and programmable snooze times.

So you want a WiFi internet radio but you already have a stereo. Then you fit the bill for this device from Grace Digital Audio. The new Solo WiFi internet radio tuner turns your stereo (or just your speakers) into an internet radio. Pretty nifty huh?

The device has support for services like Pandora and Sirius internet radio, a backlit LCD display, and support for Grace’s remote app for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Don’t come running to me when squirrels start stealing your speaker. That’s exactly what will happen now that Pyramid Distribution has rolled out the Motz Wooden acorn Speaker for South Korea. Made of natural cut apricots, this hand-made speaker is great for your iPod or other MP3 players and it also has an FM radio.

There’s also a USB port and a headphone jack and the rechargeable Li-Polymer battery provides up to 5 hours of operation time (10 hours with earphones).

This simple shelf contains all of theiPhone/iPod touch docking essentials you need. It packs in speakers, dock, and auxillary out. But the simplistic beauty of this is that it’s also a wood shelf that can hold about 55 pounds, whether it be your books, action figures, whatever.

I have lots of notebooks and netbooks that come through my hands and I have tested more than my share of MP3 players and iPods too. One thing that many of the devices have in common is that they lack bass.
