Icebar V2 Waterproof iPod Nano dock and speakersWe’ve seen a number of waterproof solutions that allow you to take your iPod safely on the beach or in the shower but the Icebar V2 combination case may be the best one we’ve seen yet (and the most expensive). The case provides a waterproof housing for you iPod nano and built-in waterproof speakers for places where it’s inconvenient to use headphones.

The case does have a port for headphones if you’d rather keep your tunes personal, and also has a click-wheel membrane to give complete control of the iPod through the case. iPod Lamps combine music, with a lamp…
Look at those silly iPod lamps all gathered together and having a great old time. All colorful and retro looking. They think they’re pretty special. I don’t have the heart to tell them that they offer nothing new. I mean, that would just be cruel. But, the thing is, they aren’t all that special. Sure, they’re retro looking, but get this. I’ve been listening to music with a lamp on at the same time for practically my whole life.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the colors, but I like you, already own a lamp. On the other hand, if lighting is something new for you and you want an iPod dock to go along with your foray into electricity, it retails for $150 and comes in white, pink, black and brown colors.

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Darrin Olson on May 6th, 2008

Kensington iPhone and iPod battery pack and charger extends the life of your iPhone or iPodKensington unveiled a couple of new battery pack/charger combos on Monday for use with Apple’s iPhone and iPods. They didn’t waste any time thinking up snappy names in this case however as the two new products simply go by “Battery Pack and Charger” and “Mini Battery Pack and Charger”. Both work with the iPhone and any current iPod models (except the 3rd generation iPod).

The larger of the two retails for $69.99 and measures not a lot smaller than the iPhone itself at 4.0″L X 0.37″H X 2.2″W, but promises to extend the life of the iPhone for up to 6 hours of talk time, 100 hours of music or 21 hours of video. It charges through a USB connection and can connect to the iPhone or an iPod through the dock port, powering and charging it simultaneously. It also sports a cool looking little LED battery meter.

SKDubs Gold boombox looks beautiful & badass

SKDubs Gold boombox looks beautiful & badass
This boombox is an awesome mix of music and sculpture built into the body of a double bass by artist David Ellis. He incorporated a four-way stereo speaker system, two vaccum tube preamps, a Crown power amp, and a Behringer equalizer.

In case you’re wondering, there is no iPod dock, but it does come with one of the Apple players to provide a music source. You’ll have a hard time getting your hands on one, it’s limited to a run of only three systems. Which is just as well, since many of us don’t have a spare $15,000.

R2-D2 projector in action
We told you about the R2-D2 projector awhile back, but we had no idea that watching this droid in action was like watching robot porn. Check out the video here. I can not emphasize enough how awesome it is. It will make you wet your Wookie suit and sit in it for an hour!

This is a motorized, fully-articulated R2-D2 projector with built-in DVD, iPod dock, all kinds of digital media inputs, and Millennium Falcon remote control. It still costs $2,995, so you better scare up some funds if you want one and YOU DO want one.

Goodman’s iPod boombox with 7-inch LCD display
One thing is for sure, this is not your father’s boombox. It’s not a hulking chrome monstrosity with tons of buttons and levers, with a speaker on each side. If you’ve been waiting to buy an iPod sound system with some extravagance, you will likely love Goodmans’ latest.

Aside from the usual pair of speakers, it boasts a 3-in-1 multicard reader, LED accents, iPod dock and a bundled remote. The unit also includes an integrated 7-inch LCD display for showing off stored clips, photos, and the like. No word on exact resolution, so it’s probably not that great. Still, might be worth looking into for $178.

Posted in iHome by Shane McGlaun on April 4th, 2008

iHome lampEverywhere you look the proof of how successful the Apple iPod is abounds. It seems like everything is getting its own docking slot for an iPod. We have iPod clocks, iPod toilets, iPod stereos and the list goes on. 1000 years from now when researchers look back on this decade they will think we all needed help getting a woody and everyone needed a place to dock their iPod.

Naturally a new iPod docking device has turned up, this time in the form of a lamp. A company called Checkolite has a new iPod compatible, docking lamp for your desk. There are three lamp models that are available in black or white colors.

Optimus Prime Transformers iPod dock

Optimus Prime Transformers iPod dock
This is what you get when you combine two things that we have enough of, Transformers and iPod docks. But it does have far more personality then your typcal iPod dock. It features built-in speakers and can actually transform to and from a robot.

The trailer section of Optimus Prime is the dock. Sorry, Shuffle owners, the iPod Shuffle is not compatible with this system. It stands 6″ tall in robot mode and will kick the ass of any other iPod dock you leave it alone with. I think my only complaint would be the total lack of color. The iPod Transformer Dock will cost you $149.95 and is available from Amazon.

Logitec stereo mic for your iPod

Posted in Microphone by Darrin Olson on March 5th, 2008

Logitec LIC-iREC01 iPod microphoneAnyone that owns an iPod has probably noticed at one time or another that all of them lack a common feature found in many other media players - an audio input source. This fact has opened up a market for many 3rd parties to create microphone accessories for the iPod including one of the latest designs, this time from Logitec.

The LIC-iREC01 microphone connects to any model iPod that has a docking port and provides dual microphone for stereo recording straight to the device. It also has an input port for bringing in other audio sources to record aside from the ambient noise, and it has a pass through USB port to sync up and charge the iPod without having to remove the microphone accessory. A switch on the side controls high or low levels of recording and the part that we like best is that it’s small and doesn’t need any additional cords or loose parts (aside from the dock cap) to operate.
