cect m188 puts an iphone nano in your hands

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2009

cect m188 puts an iphone nano in your handsThe rumors of Apple releasing an iPhone Nano are still going strong, but they remain just rumors. You can own a miniature iPhone right now if you don’t mind that it’s a cheap Chinese knock-off. The CECT m188 clones the look and menus of the original iPhone in a package that’s just 86mm x 48mm x 11mm. Or about the size of a credit card.

The screen measures 2.6″ diagonal, and it’s touch-sensitive, so it sucks to have large fingers with this one. Using a stylus is probably best. The phone is completely unlocked and works on 900/1800/1900Mhz GSM networks around the world.

LG confirms Apple's new OLED notebook, iPhone and moreAdd this one to the rumor mill. The Korean manufacturing giant somehow has info on Apple’s netbook and they know it’s an OLED touchscreen. How do they know this? Because they possess the technology that prevents smudges and stains on an OLED screen and Apple wants it.

Apple already has a working prototype of this netbook and are about to manufacture it using LG’s screen. The Apple netbook won’t probably be a tablet like in the photo above.

Scosche passPORT adds iPhone 3G compatibility to your iPod dock

Scosche passPORT adds iPhone 3G compatibility to your iPod dockMost iPod docking stations don’t support charging capability for your iPhone 3G, iPod Touch Gen 2, and iPod Nano Gen 4. It’s because of USB voltage differences. Scosche has come up with a converter named the passPORT Home Dock, that allows users to charge their iPhone 3G on these iPod docking stations.

The passPORT Home Dock makes it fully compatible with the older iPod docking stations. To clarify, this converter/adapter is not a stand-alone dock and will not add audio/video functions by itself. You can find one at Scosche.com and Amazon.com for $39.99.

Three new iPhones rumored for 2009

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2009

New iPhone in June?According to an analyst with the Canadian research firm Canaccord Adams, three new iPhones will appear in 2009. According to a report on Seeking Alpha, analyst Peter Misek identifies the most lavish of the trio as a 32GB iPhone 3G that will be available in a variety of colors. Then there’s a lower-cost handset based on the 2.5G iPhone, which is targeted for China and India. Third is a smaller version of the phone, about one-third the size of the 3G iPhone that will cost 40% less and we should see that one by year’s end.

The rumor seems to be gaining traction, and it fits with some of what we’ve been hearing, but we are taking it with the usual grain of salt until we hear more.

New iPhone in June?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on February 3rd, 2009

New iPhone in June?If you’re on the lookout for the next iPhone, Apple is in the habit of refreshing the iPod and iPhone on a somewhat regular schedule. Therefore a new iPhone arriving in June wouldn’t be a surprise. Business 24/7 mentions a brand new iPhone in June.

As usual, take it for the rumor that it is. It could be a mistake, or a misquote, or even a conspiracy to throw us off, but it’s interesting. We’ll just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, over at Apple Insider there is mention of an upcoming iPhone with an architecture overhaul. iPhone nano anyone?

iPhone flash drive is cute

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 22nd, 2009

iPhone flash drive is cuteI ask you, have you ever seen a cuter little flash drive? It’s a tiny gumby-looking iPhone thing. It looks like it’s doing a sit up and working out. This guy must have been what all those iPhone nano rumors were about.

Not sure how much data it will hold and it will likely fall apart in your hands after one week, due to shoddy quality and the fact that it’s made from cheap rubber. I think. But just imagine how much fun you’ll have with your little friend before that happens.

Here we go again: iPhone nano now rumored for June

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 13th, 2009

Here we go again: iPhone nano now rumored for JuneMacworld just ended and already we have more iPhone Nano rumors. The Chinese trade paper Economic Daily News is now reporting that Taiwan Semiconductor Company (TSMC) will be handling chip manufacturing for a low-cost device being referred to as…cue music…The iPhone nano. The paper has a pretty good reputation, but take it with an iPhone sized grain of salt.

The source is citing a June launch of the handset, just after an order for the components in March. Apple does like to intro iPhones in the Summer, so if history is any indication, the timing fits. China has no deal for the iPhone, so a lower-cost version may be perfect for Asian markets. The nano could have a bunch of ready users.

More iPhone Nano rumors

More iPhone Nano rumorsWhether there is any shred of truth to the iPhone Nano or not, it sure is stirring up some big rumors for such a small device. Adding to these rumors, case-maker Vaja today quietly added the category to its website. We’re not sure what to think. At this point, it’s a lot like the X-Files. The truth is out there. Somewhere.

Apple could produce a cheaper phone, but why? They could just as easily add another on the high-end. Yet, there it is on the site of a reputable accessory manufacturer with a brand new phone listed. Something seems to be afoot, but what?

iPhone Nano concept photo surfaces

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 23rd, 2008

iPhone Nano concept photo surfacesRumors of an iPhone nano have been persistent for weeks now, and here are the first pics of the so-far fantasy phone. It looks about 3/4 the size of the iPhone, slimmer but still sexy. Is this just wishful thinking?

It could be true, but many don’t see it happening in January. For an announcement of this calibur, Steve Jobs would be making it, right? He’s not going to be at the Macworld keynote next month. But think about this. Why does he have to be there to make the announcement? Why not “phone it in” on an iPhone Nano?

iPhone nano case appears

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2008

iPhone nano case appearsWe probably shouldn’t be basing predictions for important new Apple products on protective case mockups from China. Even so, things like this have revealed the truth in the past. iDealsChina is reporting that XSKN is working on a silicone skin for the upcoming “Nano iPhone” a shorter, chubbier version of the iPhone 3G.

According to iDealsChina sources, the phone will feature EDGE data, but otherwise is pretty identical in specs to its predecessors. Well, it has a smaller screen. According to them, Apple plans to sell tons of these for low prices in places like Walmart, and that the company will be unveiling the new handset in January during Macworld.

m888a iPhone Nano clone
Here’s an interesting clone. The m888a will let you own a smaller sized iPhone, with dull specs. An iPhone mini-me. Just keep in mind that your fingers remain the same size. Specs include: a 2.4-inch touchscreen with stylus, dual-band GSM and a VGA camera, even comes in black and white in an Apple-like package. One thing that the original doesn’t have and the m888a does is dual-SIM support and freedom to be on any GSM network.

iBikeConsole puts music on your bike

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on September 9th, 2008

iBikeConsole puts music on your bikeHere’s an updated version of that iPhone Bike Mount we showed you in April that has probably sent some people to the hospital by now. The iBikeConsole device is mounted on your bike in pretty much the same way and will let you control your 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation iPod Nano without moving your hands away from the grips, which is a bonus because that feature will surely keep you alive longer.

You can also check your speed, trip distance, and more if you’re a numbers geek. Has a nice looking weather housing too. It’s about time they came up with something that makes it all the more desirable to knock you off your bike and steal it, because that old bell on your handlebars just wasn’t hip enough. The iBikeConsole is available for $76. Getting your bike and your iPod stolen at the same time…Priceless.

Gentleman, we can rebuild it: New iPod to be taller, skinnier

Gentleman, we can rebuild it: New iPod to be taller, skinnierAccordng to iLounge, this year’s iPod nano will have a larger screen than the current generation offers and will be more like a Zune. It will have the same 1.5:1 widescreen aspect ratio that the iPhone and iPod touch enjoys.

Something obviously needs to be done to fit that screen in right? That’s why they are giving it the shape of the older models, which will seem really weird at first glance. It seems like a step backwards, upping the size, but what they are after is usability.

The iSkin DuoBand for iPod nano 3G includes a soft silicone layer with another harder layer set in a metallic finish. These two layers reportedly work together to protect your nano from most forms of damage, though we imagine it won’t do much if you drop a weight on it.
