ArkHippo protects your iPhone, assaults your senses

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on July 12th, 2010

We are all for protecting that expensive iPhone with the bad reception, but if it looks like you’ve wrapped a cinder block around your phone, we’ll pass. And that’s just what this case does. The ArkHippo is made of a proprietary material which is somewhat similar Crocs shoes, so you can drop it without worrying.

Of course portability goes out the window. And your once lovely device is now just plain fugly. Nothing on pricing and availability yet, but I don’t see many of you buying this thing anyway.

iPhone exclusive deal lawsuit granted class action status

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on July 12th, 2010

There have been a number of lawsuits filed against Apple in the years since the iPhone debuted. Many of the suits were for alleged patent infringement. One of the early suits was against Apple and AT&T over the exclusive deal for the iPhone.

The suit was recently granted class action status, which means anyone who purchased an iPhone all the way back to June 29, 2007 is part of the suit. The core allegation is that consumers who entered into the 2-year agreement were actually in a five-year agreement due to the exclusive deal with AT&T.

iPhone 4 Cases in Crocodile Skin and White Gold

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on July 11th, 2010

Forget fancy Swarovski studded iPhone cases. Crocodile skin with white gold is the way to go. Or maybe a Stingray polished or python skinned iPhone 4 case? Apparently each of these is available from a site called MJ Apple iPhone Limited Edition.

Yes, that name sounds pretty shady. But if this is your sort of thing, these are all limited editions. Apparently they ship from Russia and you will have to email or call to ask about price and availability, so you know it’s expensive.

Exovault metal iPhone cases

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on July 7th, 2010

These EXOvault cases for the iPhone look down right awesome. Each is handmade from metal, and some models are engraved with intricate designs. They add a touch of old world metal chic to your iPhone. Each of EXOvault’s cases are crafted from lightweight metals, like brass or anodized aluminum, and feature an inlaid rosewood accent on back.

There’s also a minimal black aluminum case that looks pretty decent. They are priced at $110 to $165. All of the cases are designed for the iPhone 3GS, but hopefully they will out some iPhone 4 designs soon.

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2010

Diamonds are forever or in this case 4ever. When attached to the iPhone 4, maybe they will even help with the reception. Once again you have Stuart Hughes to thank for this over the top luxury version of he iPhone.

The iPhone 4 Diamond Edition. It has diamonds, a bejweled Apple logo and it’s a white iPhone 4 (32GB). It’s also unlocked. Do you have the extra $20,000 for this light-catcher?

Paul Frank Julius Dance Machine iPod dock

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2010

I don’t get the whole Paul Frank thing myself, but apparently many of you like to buy things with a monkey on them. Paul Frank has dabbled in the iPod/iPhone case market and even headphones, but now there is an iPod Dock.

It’s in the shape of Julius of course and is called the Julius Dance Machine. In between the monkey’s hands is the iPod dock in a cradle and according the the specs it will work with all generations of iPod’s. Not sure about iPhones. He will give you about 6 hours on single charge.

Vapor4 iPhone 4 bumper

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on July 1st, 2010

The iPhone 4 is prone to shatter easily, with that tiny plastic bezel. And also, touching its metal rim causes interference. The Vapor4 bumper is made of aluminum and just may solve the iPhone 4′s design problems. It looks great while doing it.

They are made of aluminum, and they have an interior liner that separates the metal from the antenna, insulating it. The manufacturer’s tests showed no interference whatsoever across all models of iPhone.

DIY iPhone 4 case made from a $1 bracelet

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on July 1st, 2010

It sucks laying out more money for iPhone accessories. When is enough enough? All of that money adds up. So how do you make a super cheap case and save some dough? Well, Oliver Nelson has used a rubber wristband to act as a bumper on his phone.

They are apparently an almost perfect fit when stretched around the 4′s antennae. A 1.125-inch long by 0.125-inch wide incision (into the unstretched band) is necessary to keep the 30-pin port and speakers open, but otherwise it’s pretty easy and dirt cheap too.

Waterproof Toughcase with built-in GPS for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 30th, 2010

You could go for a plain jane iPhone case or you could opt for Magellan’s waterproof Toughcase, priced at $199.99. Two hundred bucks gets you IPX-7 waterproof standards, allowing it to be submerged up to one meter for up to 30 minutes, and there’s also an integrated 1,840mAh battery that can “double the life” of your iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS or second / third-generation iPod touch.

There’s also a high sensitivity SiRFstar III GPS chipset for quality GPS reception, and you can still access the touchscreen. You get all of that, but your device loses any sexiness it ever had and there’s no official support for Apple’s newest iPhone.

Coveroo offers iPhone 4 cases you can customize

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on June 25th, 2010

One of the things about the iPhone is that with its popularity just about everyone has one. It’s hard to be unique when everyone uses the same gear. Coveroo has announced a couple new cases for the iPhone 4.

Among the new cases are ones that are printed with the typical stuff we see like movie characters, team logos, and other designs. The cool case is one that the company will put your own picture or design on.

Retro iPhone cassette case

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on June 24th, 2010

Feeling nostalgic for the old days, but love your modern iPhone? If you said yes to both, then check this out. This iPhone cassette case is the best of both worlds. The case is functional enough to keep your iPhone free of scratches, while looking like an old mix tape.

The best part is that you can actually listen to music from your iPhone when in the case. So in a way, you really are listening to a cassette. Pretty cool.

MobileProtect is ready to insure your iPhone 4

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 24th, 2010

When you pay Apple prices for the latest shiny gadget, you are going to want some insurance to protect your investment. MobileProtect is the only company to offer insurance for the iPhone 4 right now, when it comes to cases of loss or theft, water or other liquid damage, accidental damage and out-of-warranty failure.

It’s a great idea. Especially in this economy. It will cost you $11.99 a month for the coverage. It’s probably only necessary for the more accident prone among us.

Mophie introduces external juice pack batteries for iPhone, iPod, and iPad

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on June 24th, 2010

Mophie’s juice pack air external case added some battery life to the iPhone, but it also makes your iPhone chubby. Now Mophie is introducing a line of external juice packs that pop into your device using a retractable dock connector.

The smallest will be the $40 1,000mAh juice pack reserve, then the $60 1,500mAh boost. Both are compatible with the iPod and iPhone and also offer “super-bright” LED flashlights. Lastly there’s the juice pack power station, which hasn’t been given a price or mAh rating, but will be compatible with the iPad.

ZAGG announces iPhone 4 invisibleSHIELD

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Shane McGlaun on June 10th, 2010

I have talked before about the ZAGG invisibleSHIELD protective films. I have used these films on all of my iPhones since the device launched and it does a great job of protecting the screen and body of the phone without having to worry about scratches.

The only downside to the film is that the extra grip it gives the body of the iPhone makes it hard to use the device in a case that fits snugly. ZAGG has announced that it has the film available for the iPhone 4.
