Android phones get 2D Bar Code reader

Android phones get 2D Bar Code readerIt used to be that bar codes were just for use in grocery stores. That’s not the case anymore. Grocery cashiers have hogged all of that swiping bar code glory for long enough. Personal bar code readers, like ScanLife’s latest for Android phones, allows you to quickly visit Web sites, phone numbers or videos.

It’s a shortcut for typing on your keypad or browsing. You can even create your own bar code on ScanLife’s Web site for quick access to functions that you use on a daily basis. The software has been available as a free iPhone app since August, but now you can download it for Android phones as well.

Palm Pre may initially be a Best Buy Exclusive

Posted in Palm by Conner Flynn on January 15th, 2009

Palm Pre may initially be a Best Buy ExclusiveAccording to WebOS Arena, the Palm Pre will be exclusive to Best Buy Mobile and Sprint stores for it’s first 60 days, citing a “credible source”. That isn’t a stretch as Sprint has previously given Best Buy such privileges, like in the case of the Samsung Instinct.

There was also a short time where Best Buy was also the only place outside of an Apple Store where you could purchase an iPhone. So, whether they have a “credible” source or not, it’s a good bet. Not a stretch at all. Still, it isn’t confirmed, so take it with the usual grain of salt.

Paul Frank iPhone 3G cases

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

Paul Frank iPhone 3G casesBeing a man of a certain age, rather then a teenage girl, I admittedly don’t get the whole Paul Frank Monkey thing. But that monkey is damn popular. He’s on Pajamas, handbags, shirts, you name it. So it makes sense that he appears on his own iPhone 3G cases. You can find Paul Frank’s previous mobile cases here.

In all, there are five new silicon case designs, including the very colorful Paul Frank Skurvy Guitar case that is covered in wild little guitars. There’s also one covered in hearts if you want to proclaim how much you heart your new case. Each of these Paul Frank 3G iphone cases retail for $29.95.

More iPhone Nano rumors

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 30th, 2008

More iPhone Nano rumorsWhether there is any shred of truth to the iPhone Nano or not, it sure is stirring up some big rumors for such a small device. Adding to these rumors, case-maker Vaja today quietly added the category to its website. We’re not sure what to think. At this point, it’s a lot like the X-Files. The truth is out there. Somewhere.

Apple could produce a cheaper phone, but why? They could just as easily add another on the high-end. Yet, there it is on the site of a reputable accessory manufacturer with a brand new phone listed. Something seems to be afoot, but what?

Clear iPhone case makes your 3G naked

Clear iPhone case makes your 3G nakedSome things are good clear. Water, windows. Some things not so much. Wonder Woman’s plane comes to mind as well as this clear iPhone 3G case. We don’t have a problem with clear cases, but the guts inside have to look cool, otherwise what’s the point?

You’re either gonna love it or hate it. Yes, it’s missing the camera and some other stuff. The case is manufactured by a company in Russia. It’s not a bad idea as you will definitely want to stand out from the rest of the black iPhone using world, but damn the inside of an iPhone is fugly.

Earbud Yo-Yo prevents tangles

Posted in Earbuds by Shane McGlaun on December 26th, 2008

Earbud Yo-YoI decided to use my earphones with my iPhone the other day and when I reached into the drawer to grab them there was a huge knot that resulted in a mass of earphones, computer mice, and paper clips coming out of the drawer. It took me a good ten minutes to untangle the mess and I wished for something to prevent that from happening again.

A new device is being offered called the Earbud Yo-Yo that is designed to keep your earbuds from being tangled inside your desk, purse, or brief case. It’s easy to see where the products name came from when you look at the device; it looks like a yo-yo minus the string.

iPhone gets Xenon flash from Snapture

Posted in Accessories by Shane McGlaun on December 24th, 2008

Snapture iPhone FlashI have tried on a few occasions to take pictures with my iPhone. It seems that no matter how brightly lit the room is, the camera simply can’t take a shot that’s not dark and grainy. Many other high-end camera phones offer a built-in flash, but so far, Apple has not added that feature.

Snapture offers editing software designed to run on the iPhone and it has now announced a new polycarbonate case that not only protects the iPhone from damage, but also adds a bright Xenon powered flash.

iPhone Nano concept photo surfaces

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 23rd, 2008

iPhone Nano concept photo surfacesRumors of an iPhone nano have been persistent for weeks now, and here are the first pics of the so-far fantasy phone. It looks about 3/4 the size of the iPhone, slimmer but still sexy. Is this just wishful thinking?

It could be true, but many don’t see it happening in January. For an announcement of this calibur, Steve Jobs would be making it, right? He’s not going to be at the Macworld keynote next month. But think about this. Why does he have to be there to make the announcement? Why not “phone it in” on an iPhone Nano?

iControlPad gamepad on the way

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on December 23rd, 2008

iControlPad gamepad on the wayApple’s iPhone isn’t exactly a console, but it might do better if it had some actual physical inputs and stuff like this just doesn’t make it a gamer’s best friend. Sure, it has the touchscreen and tilt sensors, but without some buttons and a D-pad, the average gamer finds it hard.

Well, gamers have something to celebrate as the iControlPad case for the iPhone is heading to production. This is the final prototype. When released, it will be in black and those holes will have buttons for mashing. No word on any ship dates or even a price.
