I really like my iPhone and I have had it since the first generation devices launched. It’s about time for me to upgrade to a new handset and I am just waiting until June to see if any of the rumors about a new iPhone coming are true. Designer Philippe Starck and Parrot have teamed up to release a home sound system designed for iPod, iPhone and other digital audio sources. They call it the Zikmu and it features a pair of 2.5-foot black monstrosities that look like trumpet ends.

The system is shipped in a recyclable package designed to look like a musical instrument’s carrying case. The system can also stream music from any PC or Mac over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth A2DP wireless technology. It features a class-D amplifier rated at 100W RMS, and the speakers can output frequencies from 50Hz up to 20kHz.

There is one universal truth when it comes to buying any brand of MP3 player, the stock earphones won’t be very good. The earphones that came with my iPhone were horrible. The sound quality was poor and they had no bass, and they slipped easily out of my ears. One of the worst things about my original iPhone is that the battery just doesn’t last long. If I play games for more than half an hour half the battery life is gone and surfing the net on the device does the same thing. I purchased a Mophie Juice Pack for my original iPhone to solve this problem.

Mophie announced a new product for the iPhone 3G back in February called the Juice Pack Air. The device is billed as the world’s thinnest external battery/protective case available for the iPhone 3G.

The rumors of Apple releasing an iPhone Nano are still going strong, but they remain just rumors. You can own a miniature iPhone right now if you don’t mind that it’s a cheap Chinese knock-off. It’s what you might expect if Steve Jobs was a Nintendo fanboy. Someone somewhere probably made this themselves. Another cool wrap that would look good over your iPhone is a Vintage Walkman. I have no idea where to get one. I just thought it was cool.

It doesn’t matter if you are a homeless New Yorker or an uber rich businessperson; most of us have one gadget in common — the cell phone. Mobile phones like the Vertu Signature Dragon have been available for the elite for a while. A new handset is now available for the well-heeled buyer called The Chairman. The device is from SCI Innovations and watchmaker Ulysse Nardin. The main design feature of the phone is a functional watch rotor. The phone is offered in solid gold and steel/gold versions as well as all steel versions.

This is a pretty neat application. It allows iPhone users to plant a virtual tree from their phone while simultaneously activating the planting of a real tree. Originally showcased at TED, the app is now available to the masses on iTunes.

The real trees are planted by the Conservation Fund, and they will begin with the restoration of a vulnerable wildlife habitat along the Gulf Coast. It’s sponsored by Ecolife Apparel, makers of cotton “green” underwear, and was developed by iPhactory.

I have been using a Mophie Juice Pack for my original iPhone for a long time now. The device gives me much more call time and lets me play games and music longer before the phone is dead. Using the Juice Pack I get roughly twice the run time on my iPhone.

Mophie has announced a new version of the Juice Pack for the iPod touch 2G that promises significantly more run time when used. The touch 2G Juice Pack fits onto the iPod like a case and provides up to 72 more hours of playback for audio and up to 7 hours more for video.

I haven’t worn a wristwatch in years, my iPhone is my timepiece of choice and many people are the same way. However, the wristwatch in some forms is still very interesting to me and Romain Jermoe has a new, very limited edition watch that is beyond cool.

The watch is called The Truth About Roswell and is being offering in a very limited edition run of only 9 units. The watch is from the Moon Dust-DNA series and pricing is unspecified, but sure to be expensive. It has mechanical movement and power comes from a winding mechanism. That means it has all those tiny gears and springs inside the case.

The smartphone market is booming and complex, feature packed devices like the iPhone and the G1 may catch the eye of fans of technology. However, there is a large portion of the handset market that cares nothing for all the geeky features and complexity of the average smartphone.

For the non-techie group of mobile phone users Pantech has announced a new black version of its Breeze handset. We first saw the Pantech Breeze in silver last year when it debuted at AT&T. The new handset is the same thing with a black case that may keep its looks longer than the silver version.

Whenever there is controversy regarding an iPhone app, it’s usually Apple who has the problem. In this case it’s Vegas who has a bone to pick with an iPhone app. Nevada gaming officials aren’t happy about a card counting app for the iPhone and iPod touch. Obviously it gives Blackjack players quite an advantage.

In fact using any device to count cards is considered a felony under Nevada laws. Good thing for cheaters that the app has a “stealth mode,” which makes it harder to spot unless you’re really looking for it. Individual casinos have their own policies on cellphones, so you better check first and make sure you know the rules, unless you plan on an extended vacation.
