McGraw Hill CEO confirms Apple Tablet

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on January 26th, 2010

If anyone is likely to know about the Apple tablet, it would be Harold McGraw, CEO of McGraw-Hill, since they publish all kinds of books and you want stuff to read on that tablet, right? Makes sense. In an interview with CNBC, the McGrawster mentioned that the tablet will make an appearance at the upcoming event, which isn’t news, but he did also mention that the OS used will be similar to the iPhone. But will it use the iPhone OS, or is it just loosely based on it?

Also, 95% of all the publishers eBooks are going to be available on the tablet, which makes for a great library of diverse content. There you have it. Confirmation from a dude who should know.

Belkin TuneCast Auto Live now shipping

Posted in Belkin by Shane McGlaun on January 26th, 2010

You might recall that I mentioned the Belkin TuneCast Auto Live iPhone and iPod FM transmitter way back in June of 2009. At the time, the device and its associated app for the iPhone and the iPod touch were expected to hit in the fall of 2009. For some reason the launch never happened.

Belkin announced today that it is now shipping the TuneCast Auto Live in North America for $79.99. In case you don’t remember, the device is a FM transmitter that automatically scans and finds the best station to transmit on in your area using the iPhone GPS system.

New iPhone to feature touch sensitive casing?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 14th, 2010

The rumors surrounding Apple’s new iPhone just won’t stop. The latest rumor suggests that Apple might have something in the works regarding the iPhone’s casing. It might be a touch-sensitive case, similar to the case that the Apple Magic Mouse has.

If true, this could change the device big time. It won’t be so great for those third-party iPhone protector casings, which would block the touch function.

WiPower unveils Wireless Power Mobile Design Kit

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

I think one of the most popular features on many mobile phones moving forward will be wireless charging. The Pre has a wireless charger option already, but most phones have to be connected to a wire to charge. I use a WildCharge case and charge pad for my iPhone to charge the device without needing wires, and it is great.

WiPower has announced a new developer’s kit for its technology called the Wireless Power Mobile Design Kit. The kit includes the wireless power charge base, access to white label transmitters and a wireless power transmitter good for up to 15W.

Mophie iPhone credit card reader

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on December 31st, 2009

iPhone accessory maker Mophie has something interesting up its sleeve. They will be offering a credit card reader for the smartphone along with a transaction app. The whole thing is integrated into an iPhone case, so you can keep the reader on permanently, as long as you don’t mind the added bulk.

As long as the app is good and the price of the service is affordable, this should do well. Assuming you use your credit card often anyway. We should get more info at CES 2010.

There are all kinds of gadgets for cyclists and now there’s an iPhone app/accessory kit for them as well. The finishing touches are still being worked on, but they’ve made their Pedal Brain kit official anyway. Think of it as a Nike+ for cyclists.

That info is processed and analyzed by the Pedal Brain app. Pedal Brain also features a coaching feature that will let you make your own training plans and sell them through the app (They take a $4 a month cut).

MyTouch 3G clone runs Windows Mobile 6.5

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on December 10th, 2009

MyTouch 3G clone runs Windows Mobile 6.5We’ve seen plenty of knock-off cell phones, whether they be iPhone ripoffs to Nokia clones Blackberry doppelgangers. Let’s face it, they are fun to spot and in many cases easy to laugh at. Take this T-mobile MyTough 3G (HTC Magic) “inspired” phone, for instance.

The design looks like the MyTouch 3G, but this thing is running Windows Mobile 6.5. Some other features include Wifi, GPS, and bluetooth. And as an added insult, it even comes with a pair of headphones that are clearly Apple earbud rip-offs. If for some reason you are interested in rocking this, it’s a steep $288.

The iPhone Christmas Tree

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 10th, 2009

The iPhone Christmas TreeLet’s say you are really into your iPhone. Let’s say you you worship Steve Jobs. In that case it’s totally understandable to toss out all of the conventional Christmas gear in favor of Apple products. You’ve ditched the nativity in favor of a Macworld diaroma complete with baby Stevus. You hang Apple packaging by the chimney with glee, instead of stockings. You’ve even attached Reindeer antlers to dolls of the Jobs man, pulling a sleigh.

All that’s left is to decorate the tree. Take a cue from the folks over at iPhone Savior, who have decided to decorate their Christmas tree with iPhone decorations and Steve Jobs magazine covers. We suppose you are waiting on the Apple tablet to top the the whole thing off.
