Posted in News,iPhone by Darrin Olson on July 2nd, 2007

iPhone parts estimated to cost Apple $220A lot of us don’t have enough extra cash laying around to throw at a new iPhone much less enough to get one just to take apart, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to. Luckily others do have that kind of bank and are willing to take some pictures and share what they find.

A company called Portelligent makes a living out of taking apart gadgets, seeing what they are made out of and trying to figure out who made it and for how much. The company did just this with Apple’s iPhone after its release and through some educated sleuthing found out some pretty interesting stuff.

Samsung releases 8GB MicroSD cardSamsung has unleashed the latest in tiny Flash memory device technology with an 8GB MicroSD card, doubling the previously largest 4GB card by SanDisk.

The significance of this, other than the obviously larger storage capacity, is how this will help bring just about any media phone that uses MicroSD in closer competition with Apple’s new iPhone touting it’s 8GB flash storage capacity. With this release an 8GB media phone won’t be that hard to come buy and most likely will not require a $600 price tag.

Apple iPhone to be released June 11The folks over at CNET seem to have gotten an exact iPhone release date of June 11th just by simply calling and asking. Apparently through calling Cingular’s customer service last Thursday they were transferred to sales and given the date. Who knew that all we had to do was ask?

We’ve known a more approximate date since the iPhone was announced at Macworld, but nothing quite this specific. This date also just happens to coincide with the Apple World Wide Developers Conference going on in San Francisco that week …
