Every tablet needs the perfect keyboard accessory that can also function as a hard case right? Well, some folks have built just that for the iPad. It’s called the LapDock, and it’s goal is to replace the laptop with the tablet. Yeah, let them dream.

The LapDock is basically just a carved wooden case for your iPad and Apple Bluetooth keyboard. If only there were more connectivity options, they just might be onto something here. Still, it is a cute case.

Apple launched it’s new iPad tablet on Saturday, meeting long lines of individuals anxiously waiting, some for many hours, to purchase the new mobile device. The release of the iPad is the most anticipated product Apple has released since the iPhone launch in 2007, with almost as much hype surrounding it.

The iPads going on sale Saturday are the WiFi-only versions and are priced from $499 to $699 depending on the storage capacity desired, which ranges from 16GB to 64GB. Apple will release a 3G version of the iPad later in the month with prices ranging from $629 to $829, again depending on storage capacity.

The iPad devices are a small tablet-like device with a 9.7-inch touch screen (on screen keyboard) and they run an operating system very similar to the iPhone or iPod touch. They have the ability to download and play music and videos from Apple’s iTunes library, read books e-books with Apple’s new iBook application and use thousands of applications from the Apple App Store for the iPad.

This may be just a concept for now, but we want one. It would be perfect for tablets. It’s basically an optional foldable keyboard that acts as a phone handset. You can carry the keyboard around in your pocket since it’s separate from your tablet, but it doesn’t work by itself.

It only works while connected wirelessly to the tablet. You could carry the iPad 3G and be ready to receive calls. Will we see something like this for real? Who knows.

Last year the product category everyone wanted to get in on was eReaders. Now we have eReaders from just about every company capable of producing them. This year the big category everyone wants in on appears to be the tablet market. We can thank the iPad for that.

The latest tablet to be unveiled is the iiView Vpad that is more like a netbook without a keyboard than the iPad. The machine runs an Intel Atom processor and Windows. It has USB ports, Ethernet, and VGA out as well as a memory card reader. The screen is a 10.2-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1024 x 600.

Now you know darn well that there’s no way they are going to let you just spend $499 on the iPad, right? Enter the official Apple keyboard dock for easier typing. The Jobs man demoed it himself. It looks like it would topple over fairly easy if you ask me.

The keyboard looks just like a normal Apple keyboard, and puts the iPad upright, so it’s like a mini desktop or something. I wonder how many people will prefer to type this way instead of the other.

Now it’s official and the name of Apple’s mystery tablet is indeed the iPad. Steve Jobs calls the device “very thin”. You can change the homescreen to whatever you want and of course you can browse the web with it. The device has new drop down menus in the mail interface and a large onscreen QWERTY.

Yes, the interface looks just like a huge iPhone. Some other features include the iTunes store built right in as well as YouTube, and YouTube in HD. The scrolling looks super smooth. Jobs casually browsed several sites to demo the device and then demoed email. If you want to send a message, you just hit compose and the keyboard pops up. The typing looks very responsive.
