ClamCase turns your iPad into a laptop, won’t bring back Flash

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

The ClamCase concept is an “all-in-one keyboard, case and stand for the iPad,”. Yep, it turns your iPad into an almost decent-looking pretend laptop. Better looking than the Lap-Dock anyway.

The keyboard connects to your iPad via Bluetooth and you’ll be able to blend in with all of the other laptop users. But two things will give you away: you tapping the screen and your lack of Flash. Supposedly the ClamCase will be on sale in the fall of this year.

Use your iPad in landscape orientation with the keyboard dock

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2010

The iPad keyboard dock is nice, but one of the downsides is that you have to use the device in portrait mode, which might not be your favorite position, especially since everyone is used to their widescreen notebook.

Well, now you can use it in landscape mode by adding a dock extender cable, allowing you to attach the keyboard and still maintain the landscape orientation that you like. What do you think? Do you want to do this with your iPad?

The iPad LapDock

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on April 9th, 2010

Every tablet needs the perfect keyboard accessory that can also function as a hard case right? Well, some folks have built just that for the iPad. It’s called the LapDock, and it’s goal is to replace the laptop with the tablet. Yeah, let them dream.

The LapDock is basically just a carved wooden case for your iPad and Apple Bluetooth keyboard. If only there were more connectivity options, they just might be onto something here. Still, it is a cute case.

iPhone OS 4.0 unveiled

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on April 8th, 2010

Just over a year after iPhone OS 3.0, Apple has unveiled the big revision of the OS that powers the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It ships this summer, and the developer preview will be available today. iPhone 3GS and new-gen iPod touch will get all the features, but some of those features won’t make it to the iPhone 3G, the original iPhone, and older iPod touches. Sorry Charlie.

The biggest new feature is the multitasking, which is said to be the “best” implementation in the smartphone space. App switching is activated by double tapping the home button, which pulls up a “dock” of currently running apps, and apparently it can do this without hurting battery life or performance for the front app.

Apple iPad Launch Today in the US

Posted in iPad by Darrin Olson on April 3rd, 2010

Apple iPad launchApple launched it’s new iPad tablet on Saturday, meeting long lines of individuals anxiously waiting, some for many hours, to purchase the new mobile device. The release of the iPad is the most anticipated product Apple has released since the iPhone launch in 2007, with almost as much hype surrounding it.

The iPads going on sale Saturday are the WiFi-only versions and are priced from $499 to $699 depending on the storage capacity desired, which ranges from 16GB to 64GB. Apple will release a 3G version of the iPad later in the month with prices ranging from $629 to $829, again depending on storage capacity.

The iPad devices are a small tablet-like device with a 9.7-inch touch screen (on screen keyboard) and they run an operating system very similar to the iPhone or iPod touch. They have the ability to download and play music and videos from Apple’s iTunes library, read books e-books with Apple’s new iBook application and use thousands of applications from the Apple App Store for the iPad.

Apple offering discounted iPad 10-packs to educational institutions

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 21st, 2010

Apple has now started promoting its 10-pack iPad bundles for educational institutions. Insert packaged maxi-pad jokes here. When purchased in a pack, the price of the iPad goes down by $20 per iPad, or $40 per iPad if purchased with AppleCare.

Purchasing iPads in bundles like this also helps the environment since packaging is reduced by eliminating separate retail boxing for each device. You should not have to buy pads one at a time. Ask any woman. In each package you get ten iPads and the USB-to-Dock connector cables, power adapters, and one set of documentation.

Griffin introduces Apple iPad accessories

Seems like there’s a ton of disappointment with the Apple iPad since it’s unveiling earlier today. Well, love it or hate it, Griffin has announced their first iPad accessories, cases really and screen protections. There’s the Elan Passport, Elan Sleeve, FlexGrip case, Jumper, and Screen Care Kit.

The Elan Passport is a leather flip-open case that you can also use to store some business cards. The Elan Sleeve is a leather sleeve. The FlexGrip case wraps your iPad in protective silicone, while allowing complete access to the audio output jack, dock connector, MultiTouch display and controls.

iPad keyboard dock

Now you know darn well that there’s no way they are going to let you just spend $499 on the iPad, right? Enter the official Apple keyboard dock for easier typing. The Jobs man demoed it himself. It looks like it would topple over fairly easy if you ask me.

The keyboard looks just like a normal Apple keyboard, and puts the iPad upright, so it’s like a mini desktop or something. I wonder how many people will prefer to type this way instead of the other.
