100 iPad clones shown at CES, more coming soon

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on January 24th, 2011

An unofficial count from Shawn Dubrovac has revealed the sheer numbers of tablets that have leapt onto the tablet market following the early success of the iPad. The list shows that at least 100 tablets and crossover e-readers have shipped, including not just major names like the BlackBerry PlayBook and Motorola Xoom but also newcomers like Enspert’s Identity Tab line and the Notion Ink Adam. The list includes 24 generic tablets at Freescale’s booth as well.

And that is not even a complete list. It doesn’t include some close relatives, like Enspert’s S200 VoIP Home Hub, and devices that have been confirmed officially but weren’t formally unveiled at the show.

iRobot iPad clone

The M003 Apad, a.k.a. iRobot, is a 7-inch, Android-OS iPad clone that costs $199.99 and is now available for shipping. The Apad supports Google Maps, HD video support and even has an integrated integrated webcam. There’s also 2GB of built-in storage though SD cards are supported.

Something tells me that this device won’t sell over a million in it’s first month, though many would buy this one just to get an iPad alternative.

iPad clone for $290

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2010

Apple’s iPad won’t be the only iPad launching on April 3rd. It will be joined by a clone from Shenzhen Huayi, who will release their fake iPad on that date for $290. That’s half the price of the real iPad.

It goes without saying that you get what you pay for though. I mean, look at that click wheel at the bottom. You certainly won’t be tricked into buying one of these based on looks alone. Probably better to spend your dough on the real thing.

Shenzhen TESO iPad clone

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2010

The iPad has yet to be released and clones are already hitting the market. Ironically, the Teso made iPad clone will be powered by the Windows 7 operating system, while featuring multi-touch, with the guts of a netbook inside. The device doesn’t even have a name yet.

Specifically, some specs include a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, a 10.1″ capacitive touchscreen display with 1,024 x 600 resolution, 1GB of RAM, GPS, 3G and a 3,000mAh battery. Nothing on price yet.

Yinlips iPad clone with E-Ink

Posted in ebooks by Conner Flynn on February 6th, 2010

Many people love the idea of the iPad, but don’t like the LCD screen. If that’s how you feel then check out what Yinlips has in store. Their iPad lookalike features an E-Ink screen.

Of course there are some downsides. No color here and it won’t run any of those apps you love, but if you don’t mind the trade-off this device may be for you. It features a 6″ E-Ink touchscreen, 20 hours of battery life, and supports PDF, TXT, HTML, and some photo formats.

Moonse iPad knockoff is smaller, runs Android

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 15th, 2010

We’ve seen plenty of iPad clones, but Moonse’s new E-7001 tablet will sell for as little as 900 Chinese yuan (or about $130) if it is ever available. For that price you get a 7-inch touchscreen, a 600MHz Rockchip RK2808 processor (which might be upgraded to a Cortex-A8 before launch), Android 1.5, an SD card slot, built-in WiFi, and five hours of battery life.

It’s a bit thicker than an iPad, and supposedly weighs just 0.7 pounds, which is about half the iPad’s weight. There’s also a front-facing camera and a USB port.
