Logitech launches diNovo Edge for Mac

Posted in Logitech by Shane McGlaun on August 6th, 2008

Logitech diNovo Edge MacLogitech launched the diNovo Edge for Windows computers a long time ago, and it is one of the best keyboards ever from Logitech in the opinion of many users. I used one exclusively for a long time until I got tired of changing it out for my gaming keyboard every time I wanted to play a video game.

Mac users are being embraced by Logitech with a new version of the diNovo Edge designed specifically for the Mac. The keyboard is called the Logitech diNovo Edge Mac Edition and it is the first diNovo keyboard designed specifically for the Mac. The Mac edition of the Edge has all the features the original Edge offered including semi-translucent Plexiglas on the frame, orange backlighting, and a very thin 0.5-inch profile.

iTunes is a smoke free zone

iTunes is a smoke free zone
We entered the Politically Correct or PC age sometime in the 90’s, and the effect that it has had on censorship, whether blatant or mild, continues in one form or another to this day. Take the above image for instance. Moronic as it may seem, the cigarette in the hand of the man in the Mad Men promotional image was digitally removed when it was placed on iTunes.

Apparently Apple thinks that anyone who sees (a rough poster outline) of a man smoking, will begin smoking a pack a day immediately. It proves one thing I’ve known for years: Consumers are not nearly as stupid as those in charge of making such idiotic decisions as whether to remove a cigarette from a TV character’s hand or not. Yeah, people have been having trouble getting their iPhone to work for like a week, but they have the cigarette until control, never you fear.

iBeer: Great taste, less filling
What’s better then the new iPhone? Two things actually: An iPhone from the future and a nice cold beer. Now you can combine your love of brew with your iPhone love thanks to this neat app that uses the iPhone’s tilt sensor to simulate you drinking it down as you raise it to your lips.

Just don’t lick your lips and slam it down on the table like a mug. You paid a lot for that thing. iBeer can be found at iTunes for $2.99. They also have iMilk for some reason. Check out a video below.

Muso voice control for your iPod
If having all of that music at your fingertips isn’t enough for you and you want a still easier way to access your music, this might be just the thing. The Muso is a gadget that plugs into the iPod, and gives you voice control.

It will synchronize with your iTunes library on the first use, without any training. It understands requests like “Play some Beatles”, “Give me Rap”, or even “Play me something like the last song”. It costs $159, and the battery lasts for 10 hours, which is plenty of time for you to have talked yourself hoarse, much to the dismay of those around you.

Hercules i-XPS SoundBox Portable Speaker for iPods
The i-XPS Soundbox is probably designed for those who want to chill by the pool or at the beach, or wherever, but the first thing I thought when I saw these is that they are downright fugly. The portable speaker will enclose and suffocate your iPod Nano (1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation), iPod Mini, iPod Classic, and other MP3 Players.

It has an integrated mini jack cable connection that connects it to the speakers through the headphone jack on the your MP3 Player. Then just zip it up to keep your MP3 player safe. It’s powered by 2 AAA batteries. I know you can’t wait to dress your iPod up as either Stone, Splash, or Spray design.

Apple’s iTunes store serves 5 billionth song

Posted in iTunes by Darrin Olson on June 19th, 2008

Apple iTunes reaches over 5 billion songs downloadedApple is touting themselves as the world’s largest online music retailer and these numbers are tough to argue with. As of Thursday the company announced that iTunes has reached the 5 billion mark and beyond for the number of online song downloads since their launch in 2003. It seems like it was only a year ago that they reached the 3 billion mark. In fact it was not quite a year go last July when they announced they had reached 3 billion downloaded songs.

To get an idea of just how many songs that is, customers had to have downloaded a little over 2.5 million songs per day on average since the site launched. In reality 2 billion of these were done in just the last 10 months, making it over 6 million per day for the past year.

Monopoly: Now on the iPod

Monopoly: Now on the iPod
It’s the one board game that everyone knows. Probably because we’re all greedy and love to buy property and collect money everytime someone lands on it. Well, if the board game version isn’t quite doing it for you anymore, an iPod version can now be downloaded from iTunes for $4.99.

How it plays out on such a small screen I have no idea. It was created by Electronic Arts, and uses the iPod’s click wheel to let you roll dice and buy, sell an trade properties, and build houses and hotels. It will run on iPod nano third-generation, iPod classic and fifth-generation iPods only.

Creative TravelSound portable speaker, now for the iPod nano

Posted in Speakers by Darrin Olson on May 23rd, 2008

Creative Travelsound portable speaker for the iPod nanoCreative has launched a new addition to it’s line of portable speakers with the TravelSound for the iPod nano. This one-piece speaker attaches to the docking port of Apple’s nano and pumps out the sound to share with others. This new TravelSound speaker appears very similar to the TravelSound i50 that we saw last fall for the iPod nano, and the design is no doubt inspired by it.

The new TravelSound portable speaker is relatively small and lets the 3rd generation nano fit right into the design giving it an overall thickness of less than an inch with 3.9 inches in total height. It also comes with a little plastic stand, and if you can keep from losing it since it’s not attached, will provide a safer rest for the speaker with your iPod in it.

HBO shows show up on iTunes

Posted in iTunes by Darrin Olson on May 13th, 2008

HBO episodes available for download on iTunesiTunes has officially started offering HBO series episodes available for download online through iTunes. This is a welcome announcement for many who would love to get episodes of the Sopranos, The Wire and Flight of the Conchords onto their PMP’s, but it comes at a price.

The price is actually what makes this announcement most interesting. Apple, who seems to have previously been with the belief that all series shows are priced equally, seems to have made a concession with HBO. The series episodes of the Sopranos is priced at $2.99 each, which is a whole dollar more than the usual $1.99 rate for a TV show.
