iTunes video comes to the UK with content from ABC, Disney, MTV, Nick and ParamountApple iTunes has finally begun offering something that the folks in the UK have been anticipating for some time - iTunes video. John Lennon’s solo catalog of music now available on iTunesApple has announced that 16 solo works by John Lennon through EMI are now available for download through iTunes. These songs will also be offered as part of the iTunes Plus program where you can pay an extra 30 cents to get the songs DRM-free and at 256 kbps AAC encoding.

UMG to Offer its own DRM-Free music downloads

Universal Music Group will have a trial of selling DRM free music online, but not through iTunesUniversal Music Group has announced that it is going start offering 99 cent downloads of its online music without any copyright restrictions as somewhat of a trial starting August 21 through Jan 31. Apple says its song sales through iTunes has exceeded 3 billionAccording to a report just last month Apple became the third largest retailer of music in the U.S. beating out Amazon.com and trailing only the likes of Wal-mart and Best Buy. Ion Audio iTTUSB10 USB turntableIon Audio gets how important it is to back up your vinyl collection to a digital format. The company announced today two new USB turntables designed to help convert your LPs into MP3s.

The Ion Audio iTTUSB05 ($150) and iTTUSB10 ($250) turntables come with a USB port for single-cable connection to a Mac or PC and allow for playing albums while at the same time copying them. Both come with software for copying music off the vinyls, including a program for converting tracks directly to iTunes. Other features of the new USB turntables include dust covers to protect the record, stylus and slip mat; built-in pre-amps eliminating the need for an audio receiver with phono-in jack; integrated RCA cables; and 33 1/3, 45 and 78 RPM playback speeds.

AirDrivesIf you worry about your child blowing out his eardrums as he rocks out on his iPod, Mad Catz is preparing to debut earphones which could remedy this problem. The company will begin selling in September the AirDrives.

The AirDrive earphones are based upon the designs of a company Mad Catz acquired in 2006 called InAir Technology. These earphones “were created with speakers that lay on the outside of the ear, which helps to deliver rich, natural sound and makes them more comfortable than conventional ear buds and earphones.” The AirDrives have a magnesium design for lightweight, directional sound control and come in standard ($100) and small ($70) sizes.

UMG decided not to renew 2-year contract with iTunesAmidst all the excitement of the successful iPhone launch by Apple last week, the company was hit with a blow from Universal Music Group when they decided to not renew their 2-year contract to provide music for iTunes.
