Humans love to make things bigger and better. Sometimes we make things too big for our own good. Like this giant NES controller that actually works. The only problem is that you need several people to reach all of the buttons, so any game you play will be over quickly.

This one comes from a student at Dutch University, who is responsible for the creation of this monstrous controller. It is now the world’s biggest NES controller, having outdone all others. This Nintendo controller is 30 times larger than the original remote. Players stand on the buttons to activate them. It’s 12 x 5 feet.

An iPod is a great thing and the iPhone is even greater for many of us. The devices allow us to carry around huge music libraries without needing big catalogs of CDs. This new remote from Monster looks like a vintage Sci-Fi prop. The bad kind. You can almost hear the cheesy sound effects and bad soundtrack. Which is why I think this is awesome. The Monster MCC AV50 Home Theater Controller will be available next month for $50.

It’s a “tabletop universal remote control” with a “Web-based setup.” That means it’s super huge and has a simple onscreen setup.

There’s a new universal remote sheriff in town. The Xsight Touch makes a bold claim with that name(It’s exciting to touch apparently) and features a huge database of more than 3,300 unique brands and 285,000 individual codes.

All you need to do is point and press the button to select the type and brand of the product. Once you’ve got it setup, you can customize the settings for your activities and favorite channels. A touchscreen display and a slider bar make navigation easier. You can buy the Xsight Touch for about £147.

Do you want a remote that will get you off your butt and help you shed some of those couch potato pounds? Here’s just the thing. Change the channel like playing DDR. Some creative guy with dreams of a huge remote saw an over-sized novelty remote at Brookstone and it was destiny.

He stitcheed together two PS2 Dance Dance Revolution mats, a PS2-to-PC controller converter box, and some homebrew source code. It works, but I think I’ll stick with the palm sized version. This would however be a great preventative device for those people who get so obese that they need a crane to break their wall and take them to the hospital. Video below.

Toshiba intros two new Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) for the Japanese market. The Toshiba Vardia RD-G503 has a huge 500GB hard drive, while the RD-E303 has a 300GB hard drive.

Both DVRs support DVD burners, MPEG-2 TS and H.264/MPEG-4 AVC recording, Digital / Analog tuner, DVD upscaling and two remote controls (one fully functional and one with just basic controls). The Toshiba Vardia RD-G503 and RD-E303 will be released next month for $770 and $660.

I can think of lots of pets that I wouldn’t want to own. Things like a big snake, that huge dog from Cujo, and a spider monkey that’s always whacking come to mind. Perhaps the worst pet you could ever own would be a lawyer.

If you feel differently, you can adopt a lawyer just in time for the holidays. The My Pet Lawyer doll thingy is a remote controlled gadget that will blurt out nine different saying like “You talkin’ to me, sharkbait?!” to “Pro Bono? Never heard of him!”

I love pinball, but I don’t think I’m lazy enough to play it vertically…with a remote. Okay, maybe I would. There may be a few benefits to upright pinball: Like not hurting your back, being able to sit comfortably, it saves space in your home etc. But at $119.95 it’s cheaper to play one of the many far superior console versions of pinball. Plus that HUGE remote isn’t a winning me over. No, it’s not a good idea to play pinball in this sacrilegious manner. You will look like a tool because that’s what you are.

You’ll have a hard time losing this model of remote from Zeon, since it is huge. It’s capable of controlling your TV, DVD and satellite box. Rest assured that no matter how fat in the fingers you are, you can still hit the buttons. No matter how far along you are in your glaucoma, you’ll see the buttons easily. The elderly may still lose it by forgetting, but it’s so big they’ll find it a few minutes later when it trips them on the floor. Just buy it for said older person, use the remote control codes to synch it up with your TV and DVD player etc, and you’re good to go. Still requires only 2 AA batteries and will cost you $18.

It’s true that most toilets in Japan have built-in bidets, but I’m guessing that not many of those are equipped with a remote control. The Blooming Bidet is, adding some elegance and allowing you to have full control over the toilet experience. That includes full control of the water spray intensity as well as the hot air aimed at your behind.

Thank God it has a huge Stop button. If this thing goes berserk and starts treating your privates badly, you can just hit it to get things under control again. Flushing is automatic, that’s why there’s no Flush button. It might have been a good idea to add one for the occasional logjam. It also has a LED underwater nightlight, a pressure sensor and integrated controls located near the right thigh.

Sony’s SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System is for the average desktop computer user that does not need or want huge-ass bass. It claims to have “an enriched sound range and fuller bass sound reproduction”. It’s best for casual use like PC gaming, audio and DVD playback etc. Design-wise it’s not Earth shattering, but it has a nice aluminum finish and comes with a compact wireless remote controller.

Some technological advances include Mobius Duct technology that ‘minimizes wind noise’, Turbo Shift technology for extended bass range and a Sigma-Type magnetic circuit for upgraded sound reproduction. Nothing on pricing yet, but I’m sure it won’t be very expensive.

People hate stepping on their scale and having it tell them the honest to god facts about their weight. Women especially hate the evils of the scale. Well folks, this new device isn’t going to improve the scale’s image any.

I personally have never had any problem with the simple act of stepping on a scale and looking down at the numbers, but I can see how that might be a problem for some people, whether they are just cringing at the numbers or just can’t see past their enormous girth. I can only presume that this device is geared toward the latter. With this scale, you won’t have to try to circumvent your huge gut to get a look at the numbers. You can just read your weight by looking straight ahead at a remote.
