Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on January 12th, 2010

Yes HTPCs are getting smaller and smaller. One day soon they will be the size of a flash drive, with flash drives being the size of a pebble. This crazy small PC has a Via EPIA-P820 Pico-ITX motherboard inside, and Via’s AMOS-3001 is the first PC to use it. It has COM ports and two USB ports on the front, and Ethernet, USB, and HDMI ports in back. It measures just 6 inches wide.

The 1.2GHz all-in-one VIA VX855 Media System Processor plays 1080p video as well. And yes the design is fanless, which keeps things silent. No pricing info just yet, but we should know more soon.

Sanus unveils cool HDMI cables with 180-degree rotating end

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on January 5th, 2010

Wall mounting your HDTV is a popular option to get the room less cluttered and to look cool. The problem is that getting the HDMI cable to the TV and getting power to the set when it’s on the wall can be tricky. The small spaces often make connecting HDMI cables with larger ends difficult.

Sanus has announced a couple new HDMI cables that come in 10-foot and 5-foot lengths that each has an end with an elbow that can pivot 180-degrees. That means you can pivot most of the connector out of the way in installations with little clearance.

SunBrite TV lets you watch the big game outside

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

I live in Texas so there are only about three months out of the entire year when it’s nice to be outside. For the other nine months of the year, it is either too hot or too cold to even think about outdoors. If you live in a more temperate area and like to watch TV outside SunBrite has a new set for you called the 5510HD.

The TV has full 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is enclosed in a cabinet that prevents dust, bugs, and water from damaging the sensitive electronics. A fan also allows the TV to operate in temperatures of up to 122 degrees. The contrast ratio for the set is 4000:1.

Wireless HD streaming coming to a TV near you

Posted in Television by Conner Flynn on January 3rd, 2010

There’s nothing like HD video and if you want to stream HD video content in your home, you’ll want to check out AXAR at CES 2010. It was created by ProVision and the technology should arrive in TVs, set-top boxes and network devices by Christmas 2010. That’s not too long of a wait.

ProVision has already worked with companies like Thomson, Pace, ITV, Toshiba and Sky, so AXAR may be used by them first. Instead of using a wireless network or the Internet to send and receive the signal, AXAR will be sending the signal from Component or HDMI over the air to a dedicated receiver.
