Patriot is a big name in the enthusiast world for computer memory. The company also has other hardware as well and has announced a new SSD called the Inferno that uses the SandForce controller.

The Inferno SSD will be offered in 100GB and 200GB capacities and uses specially screened MLC NAND flash for speed. The drive promises blazing fast read and write performance.

Acer has unveiled an awesome new M5400 desktop machine that ditches Intel for AMD’s Phenom II X4 processor. It also boasts a DirectX 11 compliant ATI Radeon GPU, an AMD 8-Series chipset, the ability to hold up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and host up to 4TB of storage space.

Word on the street is that PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 could get some price changes later this year. According to the rumor, Sony could be planning an entry-level £200 (or $295) version of the PS3 that offers a smaller hard drive with a single controller.

While the Microsoft side of the rumor says that it might include the upcoming Natal with the Xbox 360, though there is talk of a possible version of it without Project Natal going for less than £100 ($147). Current hard disk drives have hit their limit: a few hundred GB per inch. Or have they? A combination of two unique writing methods could lead to new HDDs that will yield ten times as much data in the same space.

The process combines TAR (thermally-assisted recording) and BPR (bit-patterned recording) to pack bits of data like sardines without the HDD’s write head accidentally messing with surrounding bits. Initially, researchers expect densities of up to 1TB per inch with the new method. Eventually they think they can get densities as high as 10TB per inch.

First announced back in January, the DataTraveler 5000 USB Flash Drive from Kingston is finally available for purchase to those in Europe. You might remember, this particular drive is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified with Level 3 pending, and features a built-in 256-bit AES hardware encryption for extra security.

Samsung’s Story hard drive has just made the leap to SuperSpeed. It was introduced today as the fastest Story of all time and aside from USB 3.0, not much else has changed.

The enclosure remains the same, the capacity choices (1TB or 2TB) are also unchanged. The removal of eSATA may disappoint some, but the USB 2.0 + eSATA version should still be around in some places.

Toshiba Japan has updated their REGZA HDTV range with select models supporting USB hard-drives or coming with 500GB of storage built-in. The Toshiba REGZA R1 series comes in 32-, 37- and 42-inch sets, while the REGZA H1 series comes in 32- and 37-inch sets.

Each has a USB port and Full HD resolution (Aside from the 32-inch models, which get 720p support). There’s also the entry level Toshiba REGZA A1 series, with 19-, 22- and 26-inch models, which all offer 720p HD resolution.
