Car Bluetooth speaker fits inside your steering wheel

Posted in Bluetooth by Conner Flynn on January 21st, 2009

Car Bluetooth speaker fits inside your steering wheelIf your car isn’t new enough to have Bluetooth integration, this Steering Wheel Bluetooth Adapter may be the perfect solution. It fits around the inner part of a steering wheel with some options for size adjustment. For $63 the adapter sports a microphone and speakers for speakerphone, an LCD display for incoming callers, SD port for MP3s, USB and FM-out so you can play everything back through your car’s stereo.

There is a catch however, the adapter’s power source is your car’s cigarette lighter. You would be connecting your steering wheel to the lighter. Which could be a safety hazard. Unless it’s rechargeable. In that case don’t charge it while driving.

WowWee Joebot dances, while Roborover is a shy geekAs always, WowWee has some new robots up it’s sleeve, despite branching out into other products. They look interesting as ever. What I like about their robots is that they actually infuse them with some personality.

In this case, Joebot is the large guy. A dancing rhythm robot that responds to beats. He’s the life of the party. The Roborover explorer on the other hand, starts out shy and gets bolder over time. I love the design on these guys. Full press release below.

T-Mobile said to be considering sending new batteries to G1 owners

Posted in T-Mobile by Shane McGlaun on December 29th, 2008

G1 BatteryBattery life on many smart phones isn’t as long as what most owners want from their devices. I hardly think you will find a smartphone user who wouldn’t want longer battery life from their device. You will however find many users who want longer run time, especially among those who use the G1.

One of the worst features for many G1 owners is the battery life, which is oft described as abysmal. The standard battery is an 1150mAh unit that doesn’t cut it for long days of gaming and surfing the Internet. A rumor is circulating that says T-Mobile may be getting ready to give every G1 owner a new battery.

VR3 Bluetooth Steering Wheel Console for hands free chatting

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on December 28th, 2008

VR3 Bluetooth Steering Wheel Console for hands free chattingIn many states you aren’t supposed to hold a cell phone while driving. It’s the law. I once saw a teenage girl talking on her phone while driving a pick up truck, run straight into a parked car. There was nothing else around her for miles. She was simply distracted and didn’t have her focus on driving. This VR3 Bluetooth Steering Wheel Console might help those who have trouble doing two things at once.

It gives you hands free wireless chatting directly in front of you, with a design that keeps your hands on the wheel for safety. Sure, it’s ugly as hell, but so is an ambulance ride or a mangled corpse. It’s only $99.99.

Posted in handsfree by Shane McGlaun on December 23rd, 2008

Iqua VizorSUNOne thing that Bluetooth handsfree kits have in common is that you need to replace batteries or charge them. That can be tedious, especially if you live in a state where hands free kits are required and yours goes dead while driving.

A company called Iqua has a new Bluetooth handsfree kit that promises to provide unlimited talk time called the Iqua VizorSUN. The device gets power from a solar panel on the back of the gadget. In optimal light conditions, the maker says it will work indefinitely.

Sony declares death to clamshell packaging

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on December 21st, 2008

We’ve all had our encounters with clamshell packaging, so it’s nice to hear about manufacturers that abandon the practice. Sony did just that this week, even though this video is pretty lame. Sony is just one of several big name companies that have pledged an end to this wasteful, destructive packaging.

As we reported last month, Amazon took a stand of their own. Other companies are getting on board too, like Microsoft and Best Buy. Once they start saving money on packaging, maybe Sony can make a better video, or give their workers a raise, but in reality it will likely go straight into the hands of the guys at the top. Then they can feel all good about themselves when they too ask for a bailout. To help the little guy of course.

Christmas Tree made from 70 recycled Hard Drives

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 18th, 2008

Christmas Tree made from 70 recycled Hard DrivesOh yes. We like shiny. This is one shiny tree. It’s the kind of project that you take on when you find yourself with 70 defunct SCSI hard drives and a whole lotta free time on your hands. If that sounds like you this Christmas season, you can make one too, just like the builder of this tower of joy. It was built by a man with a horse name(trigger).

He took the drives from RAID arrays that were destined for the scrap heap. Instead of performing the DoD wipe that would have otherwise been needed, he built this geek tree from the shiny discs within. The tree is made entirely from the drive pieces, with one exception. A single nut.

Neoi 906E thinks it’s the worlds thinnest QWERTY phone

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on December 17th, 2008

Neoi 906E thinks it’s the worlds thinnest QWERTY phoneDo I laugh or not? German company Neoi introduced the 906E. It claims to be the thinnest QWERTY phone in the world. Who are we to argue? It’s almost as thin as the credit card. The Neoi 906E is packed with a lot of features including, a camera, Bluetooth, MP3 player, microSD card slot expandable up to 8GB.

The handset also supports Tri-Band GSMGPRS 900/1800/1900 MHz and comes with an integrated hands-free speakerphone. Problem is, they want you to purchase a minimum quantity of 500 units to get this handset. Hmmm. On one hand, it’s the world’s thinnest, on the other I don’t really need 500 since I’m not Santa.

Hands on with the new Olive Palm Centro

Posted in Review by Darrin Olson on December 17th, 2008

Olive Palm Centro hands on reviewA common gift people will give themselves for the holiday season is a new phone. With broadband networks getting faster by the minute, a phone that is smart enough to handle surfing the internet, getting email, supporting IM’s and taking pictures becomes more and more attractive. This holiday season we had the opportunity to take a look at a couple of Palm’s smartphones, and in particular we spent some time with the new Olive-colored Palm Centro.

If you’re in the market for your first smartphone or you’re just looking for something that’s slick and easy to use with broadband access you will be well-served to take a look at the Palm Centro. Palm has been getting some mixed reviews lately when placed against some of the latest in smartphone technology such as RIM’s Blackberry or Apple’s iPhone, but we found the Centro to be a refreshing and fun device, and at just the right price.

Hands On with the 8GB Sansa Clip from Sandisk

Posted in Review by Darrin Olson on December 15th, 2008

Sandisk 8GB Sansa Clip MP3 player reviewAnyone in the market for a small MP3 player should definitely take a hard look at the Sansa Clip from Sandisk before making a purchase. Comparable in size to the iPod Shuffle, the Sansa Clip packs in more features and now more storage giving some significant bang for your buck.

The most significant item for us on this particular MP3 player was the storage capacity. This little device now comes with the ability to pack as much as 8GB of music which is really a lot of songs. Connect it to your computer through the included USB cable and quickly transfer music or even use the device as mass storage to go. Also as we had mentioned when the 8GB Clip first came out, the clip provides 4x the storage of the iPod Shuffle for just a small more in price. But the storage is not all you get.

Daily Deal: ViaMichelin X970 Portable GPS

Posted in Dillyeo Daily Deal by dillyeo on December 8th, 2008

The ViaMichelin X-970 arrived in the US around a year and a half ago. It comes fully loaded with 64MB of RAM, a 400-MHz processor, and a SiRFStarIII GPS receiver technology. On a 2GB SD card Navteq maps covering the U.S. and Canada are stored and supplied. The X-970 also includes 3.6 million points of interest, including the Michelin Green Guide, an aggregation of tourist information with everything from price ranges to hours of operation to historical context.

The X-970 also has Real time traffic capability, Bluetooth capabilities, and is compatible with many mobile devices for handling phone calls on the road, hands free. Despite what has been described as a difficult learning curve, and despite some of it’s less impressive, more frustrating features, the pros definitely counterbalance the cons. Also, for what it costs right now on Dillyeo, I can’t really find a better GPS value on the internet, though you might want to check that out for yourself.

Moto Kraver Strikes the ‘Brick… And everywhere else

Moto Kraver Strikes the ‘Brick… And everywhere elseLast night I noticed that Joel at BoingBoing Gadgets discovered an overly in love “fan” of the Motorola Krave who had been trolling their comments for the last few weeks. The dude’s comments seemed oddly familiar. So I checked our own comments here at the ‘Brick. Guess what? He struck here too. A few times.

This brazen bandit doesn’t even wear a mask, freely admitting that he works for Motorola while simultaneously and textually stroking the Krave. Sometimes he mixes it up, but mostly it’s the same old tune, which …

Ooma Introduces Telo, free calling in the USOoma’s Telo is the first dedicated phone that lets users use both a cordless handset and a matching router to make unlimited calls within the US as well as free international calls, but there’s a catch, the recipient has to be an Ooma owner as well. It will even send address information instantly whenever you place a 911 call for emergencies. You’re going to need a reliable and fast broadband connection. The Ooma Telo will retail for $250.

One in three iPhone 3G buyers came from providers other than AT&T

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on October 7th, 2008

iPhone 3GThe iPhone is certainly one of the most talked about mobile phones among gadget hounds. Many were not happy when the original iPhone launched as an AT&T exclusive. When the iPhone 3G launched and AT&T began subsidizing some of the cost of the iPhone, people began to take a bit more notice of the handset.

According to market research firm NPD Group one in three iPhone 3G buyers have come to AT&T from other service providers. I am sure this is exactly what AT&T was hoping for when it agreed to subsidize the cost of the iPhone.
