Samsung recalls Jitterbug handsetsSamsung is recalling 160,000 Jitterbug cellphones. The handsets targeted seniors they want them back since they are missing one very important feature. They don’t connect to 911 services whenever the handset is out of their service area.

Jitterbug owners get an “out of range, try again later” message instead of help. The recall will apply to SPH-a110 and SPH-a120 Jitterbug models that are equipped with standard keys and were sold between March 2008 and May 2009. Exmovere Chariot is a wearable robotDid a robot swallow that guy? Is this the next part of our evolution, where our legs are replaced by robots? Could be. In which case this is an evolutionary mullet. Business suit on top, partying robot on the bottom.

It’s actually for amputees. They will be the first to be assimilated by this contraption, trading in their crutches for this strikingly scary wearable commuter named the Chariot. The Exmovere Chariot makes it so that you are basically one half Segway. It’s …

BlueAnt Q1 Bluetooth headset debuts

Posted in BlueAnt by Shane McGlaun on April 2nd, 2009

blueant020-sbI’m not a big fan of Bluetooth headsets personally; I prefer to just hold my phone to my ear. However, in some states you have to use hands free devices to be able to use cell phones while driving. If you live in one of those states, a Bluetooth hands free kit or headset is required.

BlueAnt has announced a new Bluetooth headset called the Q1 that has some very interesting features. The most important feature is that the device can be controlled using voice commands. The headset responds to spoken commands like redial, call back, answer/ignore call, and check battery.

Nokia announces software update for 5800 XpressMusic

Posted in Nokia by Shane McGlaun on March 30th, 2009

nokia5800-sb1There has never been a Nokia phone that I have been interested in. In fact most of the handsets on the market are boring by my jaded standards. I do like the iPhone, but I will say it’s getting a bit boring and I am looking for the next cool handset.

Nokia has been offering its 5800 XpressMusic handset for a while in Europe, and not so long ago it brought the device to America. There were some issues with connectivity that forced the phone off the market for a while shortly after is US launch.

chairmanphone-sbIt doesn’t matter if you are a homeless New Yorker or an uber rich businessperson; most of us have one gadget in common — the cell phone. There are few people today that don’t have a mobile phone, though the type of phones we use varies greatly. Many geeks carry the iPhone and your mom may have the cheap phone that comes free with her plan. The mega rich also have their own type of cell phone.

Mobile phones like the Vertu Signature Dragon have been available for the elite for a while. A new handset is now available for the well-heeled buyer called The Chairman. The device is from SCI Innovations and watchmaker Ulysse Nardin. The main design feature of the phone is a functional watch rotor. The phone is offered in solid gold and steel/gold versions as well as all steel versions.

Garmin gets truckin’ with new GPS device

Posted in Garmin by Shane McGlaun on March 19th, 2009

garmin465t-sbI really like GPS devices and have owned several of them over the years. GPS is much better than having to stop and ask directions or having to listen to the wife tell me I need to stop and ask directions. I always figured that the big rigs on the road had built-in GPS, and I am sure many do.

Garmin has announced a new GPS device for long haul truckers that may make some want to upgrade even if their rig has GPS built-in. The new nuvi 465T is a GPS device that allows truckers to put in the length, width, height, and weight of their truck along with cargo type and the GPS device will find routes that the truck can safely and legally take.

Magnetic Light Mine is a hands-free flashlight

Posted in LED by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2009

Magnetic Light Mine is a hands-free flashlightThis flashlight is shaped like a typical underwater mine and it’s this shape that makes it so radical in design. The golf-ball-sized flashlight has a single powerful LED, with twelve points tipped with neodymium magnets.

That means it will stick to any steel surface, letting you light up more of the room. Great flashlight for lighting up tight spaces. And at only $9, you have to get one. You’ll never have to clutch your flashlight in your teeth again.

Bitstream announces open public beta for BOLT mobile browser

Posted in Bitstream by Shane McGlaun on February 16th, 2009

BOLT Mobile BrowserOne of the biggest problems on many handsets when it comes time to surf the Internet on the go is the browser offered on the phone. Many mobile web browsers force users to view websites in a way that makes navigation difficult and runs the surfing experience we are used to.

Bitstream announced today that it is offering a free public beta for its BOLT web browser that promises to allow users of high-end and low-end cell phones alike to surf the web with a desktop like experience. BOLT allows users to view full desktop style web pages and to zoom in on sections they want to view closer.

Samsung Blue Earth Phone is made from water bottles

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on February 12th, 2009

Samsung Blue Earth Phone is made from water bottlesSamsung’s upcoming Blue Earth smartphone is a little different. In front you’ll find a touch screen, while the entire back takes advantage of the space with a solar panel. If you can believe Samsung, they are claiming that the panel produces enough electricity to place a call any time you need to.

We’ll believe that one when we see it, but as far as eco-phones go, this one is interesting. Keeping energy in mind, the phone includes an Eco Mode, which adjusts screen brightness and deactivates Bluetooth. Not only that, but most of the phone is made from recycled water bottles. Both the handset, and it’s charger are free from harmful substances.

Review: In Your Face iPhone Holder

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 9th, 2009

Review: In Your Face iPhone HolderA while back we told you about the iFlyz iPhone holder, designed to hold your iPhone during long flights. It’s a great idea for sure, but you have to question the whole suction cup idea. You don’t want to trust your expensive gadget to a suction cup.

That’s where the In Your Face iPhone holder comes in. It does pretty much the same thing, for the same price, just in a much safer way as there is no suction cup involved. Instead it uses a much stronger spring-loaded iPhone clamp. I’m happy to report that it does it’s job well and has multiple uses while you keep your hands free.

Accenda iPod Voice Controller

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 2nd, 2009

Accenda iPod Voice ControllerThe iPod’s Click Wheel is great and all, but like most gadgets, it’s really no fun to use when it’s cold outside. Accenda has a solution for your cold fingers with the iPod voice controller. Just connect it to the iPod’s dock connector and use your voice to control your iPod.

You can vocally do everything, like skipping tracks to adjusting volume without pushing any buttons. It works with almost any English-speaking user and can even be trained to work with those who have strong accents or different languages.
