It is taking the CTIA Wireless show this week to make some announcements about upcoming ventures.

This iPod adapter will let a driver charge and control the iPod or iPhone, including “automatic pause and resume playback music feature during active calls.” Also being made available in these two Ego products by late spring is the ability to read aloud through a car stereo text messages sent to a Bluetooth enabled cell phone.

Bluetooth microphone dental insert
Here’s something you don’t see everyday. The Bluetooth Dental Insert Microphone is described as the “ultimate bluetooth handsfree”. It’s a super small microphone packaged with solar panel and battery to provide the most portable unit yet. The composite resin filling is designed to fit in a hole 2.2mm in diameter and 1.7 mm deep(presumably replacing a tooth.) and it will pick up sound and vibrations from your mouth thereby producing super clear sound.

The earpiece features replaceable rubber grips and attractive chrome inserts and is compatible with all Bluetooth capable phones with Handsfree and Headset profiles. No word on pricing just yet, but the Bluetooth Dental Insert Microphone will be available soon from those wacky people over at Chinavision. As they point out, “All dental work should be performed by a qualified dentist, Chinavasion does not take responsibility for injury resulting from the installation of this product”.

New TomTom GPS units more intelligently route

Posted in GPS by Nino Marchetti on March 5th, 2008

tomtom.jpgGPS maker TomTom earlier this week revealed some new GPS models outfitted with new routing technology which takes into account average speeds on a road when creating a route. These models – the Go 930 and Go 730 – will be available by the end of April.

This new TomTom technology, known as IQ Routes, is based on actual average speeds on roads, rather than the posted speed limits. It gathers this data from “anonymous historical speed profiles of over 6.2 billion miles of driven roads” from millions of TomTom users. The company says that nearly half the time having this data, planning the route results in a faster trip.

You can get more details on this technology and other features of the new TomTom units, taken from a company press release, after the jump.

Hands-free umbrella will keep you dry

Hands-free umbrella will keep you dry
Do you carry an Umbrella when it rains? Many people don’t bother, because they know they will get just as wet whether they carry one or not. There’s just no point to it. That’s where the Nubrella comes in. It wants to protect you from the rain the way an umbrella should, protecting your head from all sides. It’s like your own personal transparent pod.

Another plus is that this umbrella doesn’t require any hands, which is good, because you usually have your hands full. There is a downside: This sort of thing is socially unacceptable and you will be mocked. But hey, you can be mocked, I don’t mind. It will pave the way for the rest of us to use it one day. You can pick one up for $60.

Talking lips instead of a video phone

Posted in Telephones by Conner Flynn on February 19th, 2008

Talking lips instead of a video phone
I’m not sure what it is about lips this week. This is the second bizarre device we’ve found this week that had a pair of lips attached. The first was the kiss phone. The Lips Hands Free Phone Kit is a bit different. This is for those who might want a video phone but can’t afford it. They believe that this hands-free calling kit might be an acceptable compromise.

It clips onto any land line or mobile phone and adds hands-free speakerphone capabilities, but the best part is that it also includes a pair of animated lips that move in sync with the other person talking. No matter who you are talking to from then on, it will always seem that you are talking with a weird female duck-bot thing that mimics the voices of those you know and love. All for the low of price of $18.
