Forget Air Guitar, play the Rock Guitar Shirt

Posted in Apparel by Conner Flynn on October 29th, 2009

Forget Air Guitar, play the Rock Guitar Shirt Now you can retire from your gig as air guitar rocker and play your shirt instead. This Electronic Rock Guitar Shirt even has its own mini amplifier. When you strum the shirt with the special magnetic pick, it delivers some awesome distorted-sounding guitar chords.

You can’t rock individual notes, but there are 15 different power cords, covering all the major keys. Once you figure out where to activate each of the chords on the shirt’s “frets,” just press your finger there and start strumming.

Engineering student builds humanoid robot that plays Guitar HeroAre you getting tired of rocking fake plastic guitars yet? Good. Me too. So now it’s time to build robots that can play it. Old one-eye here is basically a mannequin stuffed with robotic parts that allow it to play.

It was developed by engineering student Pete Nikrin with some help from Minnesota West Technical College. “Roxanne” responds to each note as it appears onscreen. The robot can read the notes in transitions between light and dark pixels using its left eye which has a camera implanted.

Fully functional NES guitar

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on October 14th, 2009

Console guitars have been around for awhile, but this one is a real gem. This NES guitar even has the headstock replaced with a cartridge. Though it looks like it would break super easy.

Bust out the old NES guitar and it’s an instant Mario Party. You can play Yoshi’s greatest hits. Flipping open the cartridge slot reveals the standard guitar knobs and the AV out and power ports have been converted accordingly. Super awesome and rocking custom mod.

AC/DC Box Set includes a working guitar amp

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2009

AC/DC Box Set includes a working guitar ampAC/DC knows how to rock and they have never slowed down. Only a super hard rocking band like them could put out a Box Set like this, which has to be the best Box Set ever. AC/DC’s Backtracks package obviously looks like a guitar amp. But take a closer look.

The top of the box is actually a working 1-watt guitar amplifier. This mini-amp won’t Shake Your Foundations, or even bother the neighbors, but who cares. It’s a real amplifier. You can’t get that on iTunes people. For $199 you get three CDs and two DVDs of rare tracks from the band, a 12-inch vinyl LP, a bunch of memorabilia and a 164-page hardbound book.

Mad Catz’s Wireless Fender Telecaster is distressed

Posted in Controllers by Conner Flynn on October 7th, 2009

Mad Catz's Wireless Fender Telecaster is distressedWe’ve seen plenty of Rock Band guitars, but the new Rock Band ‘Player’s Edition’ Fender Telecaster for the Xbox 360 has a distressed look. For $110. By now I would think everyone has a Rock Band guitar, so $110 seems pretty steep, distressing or no.

The Mad Catz guitar also features Shredderz fret buttons that should make it easier to rock those solos. Some other features include the optional Electro-Harmonix Overdrive Pedal, the back tuning button, tilt mechanism, and a new touch sensitive pickup.

iRock iPod Air Guitar concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on September 29th, 2009

iRock iPod Air Guitar conceptThis air guitar defies convention by not being made of air at all, but it’s still an awesome idea. It was designed by Julien Duquesnoy. The iRock is basically a guitar frame with a spot in the center for your iPod. See where this is going?

The neck of the guitar is a speaker, so what you have is a complete self-contained instrument of rock. The iRock is constructed of lightweight aluminum and would fit the iPod Classic and iPod Touch. It’s just a concept right now, but we can see this thing being produced and selling well.

Logitech wireless guitar and drums for Wii are rocking high prices

Posted in Controllers by Conner Flynn on September 9th, 2009

Logitech wireless guitar and drums for Wii are rocking high pricesApparently no one told Logitech that we are in a recession. The Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller and Wireless Drum Controller for Nintendo’s Wii are licensed for use with Guitar Hero and way overpriced. The axe sports a maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and metal frets. They even threw in a “noise dampening strum bar and fret buttons,” and a touch-sensitive slider on the fretboard.

The drums provide 3 drum pads and a pair of cymbals, along with the stainless steel kick pedal. A Wiimote slides into each, ruining the illusion.

Retractable Guitar Hero/Rock Band controller

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on September 1st, 2009

Between Rock Band and Guitar Hero, it’s amazing you have any room left in your house that isn’t occupied by plastic instruments. Do you even have room for DJ Hero? Probably not. But here’s a clever solution.

This retractable Rock Band/Guitar Hero controller from NEXiLUX can fold down to a tiny size for easy storage. And it still has all the buttons you need to rock out. It’s compatible with the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Sadly there’s nothing on a price or release date just yet.

Kid plays Guitar Hero, solves 2 Rubik’s Cubes at the same time

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on August 9th, 2009

This kid is playing Guitar Hero on expert and solving two Rubik’s cubes simultaneously. Showoff! He goes by the handle of “JRefleX93″. And though he solves both cubes by the end of the video, he doesn’t hit every single note, but he hits more than you would have. With his elbow. In the end he has a 77% rating and his choice of nerd groupies.

This is six minutes of solid geek gold, until the end, when it fades to black and the kid gets too cocky letting out a groan that ruins the entire thing. But hey, props to this kid for six minutes of geek fun.

OpenChord allows real guitars to play Guitar Hero

Posted in Musical Instruments by Conner Flynn on August 7th, 2009

GuitarOpenChord has designed a system that allows an actual real guitar to sync up with your Nintendo Wii to play Guitar Hero. Just plug the Wiimote into the guitar and use real strings and frets instead of plastic buttons. There is one hitch and it’s a big one.

Guitar Hero wasn’t designed for use with six strings and 22 to 24 frets. Which kinda blows the whole thing out of the water. Too bad. Playing GH with a real guitar sounds like a nightmare. Who would have thought? Check out a video below.

Easy Piano adds a keyboard to the DS LiteSure, Guitar Hero continues to dominate the video game music scene, but some people actually prefer to play the piano. For those musicians, a new title for the DS called Easy Piano will let you tickle the ivories on your portable.

The game comes with a keyboard peripheral so I hope you Mozarts have hung onto your DS Lites. It features a lesson mode, a play-along mode and even a song creation mode. The real question is, what can you play on that tiny keyboard with your huge fingers?
