Out Run arcade game lets you game and drive

Posted in News by Reuben Drake on August 3rd, 2011

Gaming and driving? At the same time? Awesome. Garnet Hertz’s augmented reality-based OutRun project marries a concept car to Sega’s classic driving game with an electric golf cart, allowing players to navigate their way around real-life courses. It’s like driving an arcade cabinet.

Hertz outfitted the system with cameras and customized software that can see in front of the car to automatically reproduce the route on the screen. The map is displayed in the same 8-bit rendering as the original OutRun, with perspectives changing with the steering. It only hits 13 mph, but it’s awesome even at that speed.

V-Swing is a camcorder for golfers

Posted in Golf by Conner Flynn on July 28th, 2010

Golfers can use the V-Swing camcorder to capture their swing on camera. The gooseneck-mounted camera can be bent every which way while still offering a rotation of up to 270 degrees. When used with a 170 degree wide angle lens, you can capture your swing with the V-Swing attached to your golf cart or bag.

Now you can even analyze that swing in slow motion with high speed frame rate capability. See if it’s as good as you think. Other features include 60MB of built-in memory, an SDHC memory card slot and a rechargeable lithium polymer battery good for about 5 hours.

Toilet cart is the coolest geek chariot ever

Posted in Automotive by Shane McGlaun on July 8th, 2010

Sometime I run across stuff that is so great it’s just amazing. Today is such a day. A guy named Dave has created the coolest go-cart ever. It’s perfect for cruising at the racetrack and would make the perfect golf cart for drunkards.

The cart is made out of what appears to be a normal enough go cart frame and motor. Rather than seats, the thing has a pair of toilets on it. The tanks for the toilets are replaced with red coolers.

Maybe you can fill it with Ensure. Great way to quench your thirst on the golf course, right from your golf bag. It looks like a real club head and shaft and features an insulated cooler that sits in the side compartment of your golf bag.

“Follow Me” Golf caddy follows old rich dudes

“Follow Me” Golf caddy follows old rich dudes
The “follow-me golf caddy” also known as The Shadow Caddy, has a thing for old rich dudes on the Golf course. It follows them around without the use of any form of remote control, so they don’t have to drag their clubs around when not in a golf cart.

It’s cheaper than hiring a human caddy and leaves them free to concentrate on the ball. The device works by using a transmitter worn on the body of the user and uses multiple on-board CPUs and a collision detection system to navigate the fairways. It won’t improve the Golf game of old rich dudes, just like it won’t improve their fashion sense, but it will make them feel important.
