Telikin Touchscreen Computer For Grandma

Posted in PCs by Conner Flynn on July 17th, 2011

Telikin Touchscreen Computer For GrandmaThe Telikin Touchscreen PC is a new touchscreen PC designed for less tech savvy seniors. In other words, older people. It’s basically an Asus all-in-one PC repackaged with super easy to use, touch based software. Grandma should find this one easier to use. We hope.

Old people sometimes have trouble with things like viruses, firewalls, etc, so Telikin is designed to work out of the box with minimum setup. It comes with Video Chat, Photo Sharing, Email, Calendar, News, Weather, Address Book Web Browsing software and even games like solitaire, blackjack, memory, majong, and photo scramble. The U.I. organizes all of the features into an easy interface.

Splitfish FragFX Shark for Xbox 360

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on May 24th, 2011

Splitfish is bringing its PC and PS3 mouse controller to the Xbox. However this version needs a wired Xbox 360 gamepad to act as an intermediary between itself and the console. Seems an odd design choice. The wired controller plugs into the Shark’s wireless USB dongle, while the “fragchuck” and mouse are completely free of wires.

It doesn’t sound like a setup that I would want to deal with but if you want to give it a try, it will be available in late August.

Astro A30 Headset for your PC, consoles and phone

Posted in Headphones by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2010

The Astro A40 headset is designed for professional gamers and costs $250. The A30′s will only cost you $149, which is still way too expensive for a pair of gaming headphones, but closer to what we can all afford. The A30 has features like a detachable mic so you can use them as normal headphones after your gaming.

But it doesn’t ditch the amp and cords setup that made using the A40′s with the Xbox such a chore. Maybe that doesn’t bother you and if so, these look like they’re worth checking out if you have the scratch.

Hands on: Logitech Speaker System Z323

Posted in Review by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2009

Hands on: Logitech Speaker System Z323Good speaker systems are hard to find. Especially if you want a small form, with big sound. And bass is usually disappointing in these small systems. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been disappointed with speakers that don’t deliver. So I decided to give Logitech’s Z323 a try.

These speakers are acoustically engineered to project audio evenly in all directions, not just one. The idea is that you hear the full range of sound throughout a room. Another interesting feature is the down-firing woofer designed to deliver rich, deep bass. The two satellite speakers claim to produce warm mid-range tones and crisp high notes. You can plug in your Logitech Squeezebox, gaming console, iPod or DVD player. So what did we think of the Z323? Read on.

Working Game Boy costume plays Tetris

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on February 15th, 2009

This guy decided to turn himself into a Game Boy. He used a bunch of cardboard and a laptop is hidden inside that controls the screen. As you might expect and as he states himself, it’s a pretty fragile setup, but well worth it.

It even has the sound effects. The sad thing is that while in the Game Boy suit he can’t play himself. He can only watch others enjoy a game of Tetris. Pretty cool costume. You have to love Game Boy a whole lot to turn yourself into a walking handheld.

Tiny vintage Arcade & Pinball machines

Tiny vintage Arcade & Pinball machinesCheck out these awesome retro arcade and pinball machines. They’re made for your O scale railroad setup, because let’s be honest, most of your setup is outdated and could use a little gaming flare. The rest of us can use them to decorate our desks.

J & C Studios makes them and each 1.75″ tall game cabinet is a snap to put together. Really, they snap together from laser-cut black styrene, and even feature a place to put an LED bulb behind the screen so it can light up. They also offer decal kits for Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, Zaxxon, Phoenix and Defender.

Dz-Flex multi-screen monitorIf you have a multi-screen setup, chances are pretty good that you’re a computer geek. Somebody who spends more time in front of their computer then in real life.(Whatever that is) But do you have three screens? It may be time to take it to the next level with something like this Dx-Flex multi-screen monitor.

The Dx-Flex puts three screens together in one unit, allowing you to adjust them however you want. Tilt the outer screens inward if you’re looking for some side perspectives while playing a game. Or you can have the screens aligned straight across if you’re working on something gigantic.

Geek SquadMany of us have heard some bad things about Best Buy’s Geek Squad in store repair and installation service. Most of the bad things we have heard are well deserved. Still for the uninitiated Best Buy shopper, Geek Squad offers an easy way to get stuff fixed or installed.

Part of the set up includes installing parental restrictions and controls. In home setup will also connect the console to the Internet.

NES console inside of a light gun

NES console inside of a light gun
Much like the guy who stuffed an NES inside of an NES controller, this modder managed to stuff a Nintendo NES 8-bit game system into a light gun controller. Instead of hacking up an actual NES system he used the NOAC(Nintendo on a chip) system.

The down side is that there’s no cartridge slot, so you have to play the games built into the NOAC board. Luckily the chip came from the Super Joy III which has 76 games. The setup is powered by 3 AAA batteries that fit snugly into the handle.

Linksys WGA600N dual band wireless N WiFi gaming adapterLinsys has a new wireless gaming adapter they are showing off at the annual CES conference this week in Las Vegas, boasting it as the first dual-band wireless-N gaming adapter on the market. The WGA600N rids the need for stringing CAT-5 cable from your router across the house and into the room with your game console(s) by providing a fast wireless adapter to connect them.

The new gaming router from Linksys will connect to the ethernet port of your Xbox, Playstation or Gamecube and bring online gaming or head-to-head matches with other games to your console without having to string the wires. The adapter can then connect to older 802.11a/b/g networks if needed or gets higher bandwidth when its available through a wireless-N network. According to Linksys the setup is pretty simple too, with no drivers needed. Just plug the adapter into the Ethernet port of your console and it will find the network and connect up.
