Nyko Zoom for Kinect to ship August 23

Posted in Nyko by Reuben Drake on July 11th, 2011

If you have an Xbox 360, but not much space in your room, check out Nyko’s Zoom for Kinect. It’s a clip on device that allows players to stand closer to the console, reducing the amount of space needed to play games.

Nyko now has a firm ship date and expects it in stores on August 23. The device snaps over the Kinect’s sensor and refocuses the Xbox 360 motion controller’s cameras to a closer distance. It requires no extra power. Now players can stand up to 40 percent closer to the console.

We already knew that games will be playable on the controller, but now we have learned that it is possible for the console to stream other media to the portable screen as well.

That’s good news for your Netflix account. Reggie says that the Wii U will arrive after April 1st 2012.

Wii U to support only one Wii U controller

Posted in Wii U by Reuben Drake on June 16th, 2011

Nintendo hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility down the line, however comments made by Satoru Iwata make it clear that the Wii U will only support one Wii U controller. This is an odd move by the company. In all likelihood you can still play multiple player games. Maybe using Wii remotes, or passing a controller around. It comes down to money.

“Technically, it is possible for the Wii U to support multiple Wii U Controllers,” Iwata said. However, this will result in a “considerable” price increase.

According to Iwata, “We’re not planning on asking our customers to buy multiple Wii U Controllers.”

Wii 2 might be called “Nintendo”, touchscreen controller confirmed

Posted in Nintendo by Conner Flynn on June 6th, 2011

Nintendo has already promised its next-gen console will make its debut at E3, and rumors continue to circulate about just what this “Wii 2″ can do, and what Nintendo will call it. “Wii” was odd, but what about simply “Nintendo”?

According to Game Informer, “Nintendo” is supposedly among the current frontrunners for names. Nihon Keizai Shinbun confirms the talk of a 6-inch touchscreen, along with a camera and its own internal power source. That will allow it to be used as a standalone gaming device, while the camera can also be used to create an avatar. Sounds good so far. We will know more shortly.

These Batman: Arkham City batarang controllers are for the Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers and feature bat-start and select / back buttons, dual rumble motors, comfort-soft grips, and seven switchable versions of LED color.

The PlayStation 3 version has an internal battery, detachable charging cable, and batman-themed USB RF receiver. The Xbox version is wired and not as cool. They will be on display next week at E3 and will hit store shelves when Batman: Arkham City ships in October.

Roku and Rovio Bring Angry Birds Game To TV

Posted in Games by Reuben Drake on June 1st, 2011

Roku and Rovio have joined forces to bring the Angry Birds game to Roku’s streaming service. This new service will allow you to play Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio games all from your Roku streaming box.

There will also be an extra Angry Birds video channel with extra content like short animated Angry Bird stories and the ability to purchase Angry Birds merchandise. The game will be available this summer on a new Roku box. Also a new remote maybe in the development stages for a more functional game controller for future releases. Sounds good.

EVO 2 Android gaming console coming this fall

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on May 25th, 2011

Ever hear of the Linux-based EVO game console? Probably not, but it did exist and actually shipped at one point before being”sold out” according to Envizions, the company behind it. Well, now it is back with an Android-based gaming console called the EVO 2.

It will hit the US this fall with developer units available today where developers will have to pay an annual $149 software support fee. Some specs include a 1.2GHz Samsung processor, a “modified” Android 2.2 OS, and a TV remote and game controller. A motion sensor will be added by the end of the year, and it has its own points system to buy Android games called “EVO tokens.” Looks like the price will be $249.

Splitfish FragFX Shark for Xbox 360

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on May 24th, 2011

Splitfish is bringing its PC and PS3 mouse controller to the Xbox. However this version needs a wired Xbox 360 gamepad to act as an intermediary between itself and the console. Seems an odd design choice. The wired controller plugs into the Shark’s wireless USB dongle, while the “fragchuck” and mouse are completely free of wires.

It doesn’t sound like a setup that I would want to deal with but if you want to give it a try, it will be available in late August.

World’s largest NES Controller actually works, if you are a giant

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2011

Humans love to make things bigger and better. Sometimes we make things too big for our own good. Like this giant NES controller that actually works. The only problem is that you need several people to reach all of the buttons, so any game you play will be over quickly.

This one comes from a student at Dutch University, who is responsible for the creation of this monstrous controller. It is now the world’s biggest NES controller, having outdone all others. This Nintendo controller is 30 times larger than the original remote. Players stand on the buttons to activate them. It’s 12 x 5 feet.

Is this an early look at the Wii 2?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2011

Alright Nintendo fans. Sit down. Relax. Grab a Mario stuffed animal or something. This is bound to excite you. We have some potential news for you about the upcoming Wii 2. This is supposedly a video shot by a sneaky developer that gives us a rough look at what we can expect from the console.

We will know for sure what the Wii 2 is all about in a few weeks at E3, but for now hit the video. The controller looks like they slapped a screen on a GameCube controller. The console looks pretty typical of what you would expect. Something that looks like a docking station for the controller can be seen at the end. It all seems pretty legit. What do you think?

Nintendo drops Wii to $150 on May 15th, with free Wii Wheel and Mario Kart

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 4th, 2011

Well, we knew it was coming and sure enough, Nintendo just made it official. They will cut the retail price of the Wii down to $149.99, and will also include a copy of Mario Kart and the Wii Wheel peripheral with the console.

They will replace the current bundle of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort games. The steering wheel and the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk controllers will match the color of the console you buy. Not a bad time to get a Wii if you have been waiting for such a deal.
