Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 photos and specifications

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on March 22nd, 2011

So now the Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 is official and we have some official press photos and more detailed specs. The Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 measures just 8.6mm thick, making it an uber thin and sleek tablet, thinner than the new iPad 2 even. It weighs just 470g and comes with Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb and a custom Touchwiz UI from Samsung.

Other features include an 8.9 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, a 1GHz dual core processor and it will play back full HD video in 1080p. There’s also a three megapixel camera on the back and a two megapixel camera in front. Two models will be available: one with Wifi and one with WiFi and HSPA+.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 revealed

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on March 22nd, 2011

This shot taken from CTIA by the guys over at Pocketnow shows off some Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 promo material. It may not be the actual device, but it’s almost as good and gives us some info. Looks like it’s comprised of the Live Panel homescreen with custom widgets, and an app switcher for BlackBerry PlayBook-like app switching with live previews of the apps that are open in the background.

This image also tells us some of the specs. It sports an 8.9″ display with 1280×800 resolution (that’s a higher pixel density than the Motorola Xoom). It’s very thin too at just 8.6mm, and will weigh just 470 grams. And the CPU onboard is a dual core 1GHz chip.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 to launch at CTIA

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on February 28th, 2011

Samsung is getting ready to launch its 8.9″ Tablet and so the company is sending out invitations to the CTIA media. As you can see on the invite, the number 78910 is displayed and we take that to mean 7″ 8.9″ and 10″, the whole Samsung Tab line up.

Speculation is that the Samsung 8.9″ Tablet will use Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). Not sure if it will have Tegra 2, or Samsung’s own chip. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 uses a Tegra 2, but Samsung also produces its own system on a chip (SoC).

Verizon now offering 7-inch Galaxy Tab for $300 with a two-year contract

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on February 24th, 2011

Here’s a great deal on a tablet. Verizon is introducing a new two-year deal on the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The 7-inch tablet was previously available only on an unsubsidized basis, but now that the Motorola Xoom has become available with a $200 subsidy with a 24-month commitment, Verizon is extending the same deal to Tab buyers too.

So you now have a choice between the $500 no strings attached Galaxy Tab or a $300 version that locks you into a Verizon contract.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to stream live broadcasts from Smart TVs

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on February 23rd, 2011

Owners of Samsung’s latest Smart TVs will be able to stream live TV shows to compatible tablets or mobile phones. Both the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy S II will be able to make use of the televisions’ second tuner, turning them into second sets to watch in your home.

We don’t have much in the way of specs right now, but of course the new service won’t work on every TV that the company offers , just the upcoming D7000 and D8000 ranges. We also aren’t sure if it will work with the company’s older phones.
