Ricoh waterproof, dirt-resistant PX camera

Looking for a camera that can handle your adventurous lifestyle? The waterproof, shockproof and dust-resistant PX might be your thing. It packs a 16-megapixel CCD sensor along with a 5x optical wide zoom lens and is capable of booting up in just 1.4 seconds. The device also supports subject-tracking and face-priority auto-focus features and a bunch of shooting modes like: toy camera, soft-focus and high-contrast black and white, to name a few.

Ricoh says that the PX can survive drops from an altitude of up to five feet, remain waterproof at depths of about ten feet, and is impermeable to dust, sand and dirt. It also has a 2.7-inch, scratch-resistant LCD on back.

GammaTech introduces rugged Core i7 Durabook notebook

GammaTech, the company that sounds like they gave the Hulk his powers, has introduced a rugged notebook in the 15.6-inch Durabook S15C. It sports a magnesium alloy case and conforms to 810G military standards. The hard drive is encased in a cable that will absorb shocks and the keyboard is spill-resistant.

The optical drive bay even has a lock-out that will prevent it from opening when the notebook is dropped. There is also double protection battery circuits to prevent overheating and over-voltage damage. Yes, they went above and beyond with this one.

Panasonic unveils VIERA tablets

There are so many tablets, which one do you choose? Panasonic is hoping you choose theirs and they have several of them on show at CES. They have unveiled a new line of tablets under the VIERA brand, which is normally associated with its TVs.

It’s described as a tablet-type terminal and is designed to be a secondary display for your pictures and data related to the programs that you’re watching on your Panasonic VIERA TV. These tablets come in 4-, 7- and 10-inch sizes and feature a shock resistant design and a long battery life. The VIERA tablet is launching in Japan today. No info on pricing yet though.

Kingmax outs new line of USB 3.0 External Hard Drives

Kingmax has just unveiled a new line of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external hard drives dubbed the KE-71. It comes in 500GB and 640GB capacities.

The shockproof 2.5-inch drives have a scratch resistant enclosure, a USB 3.0/2.0 interface, built-in 256-bit AES hardware encryption and they come bundled with PCCIone EX lite and SecureDrive EX2 software.

Iomega launches External USB 3.0 SSD drive

Iomega just announced an external USB 3.0 SSD (Solid state Drive) aimed at professionals and those who need lots of storage. This 1.8″ storage device is encased in aluminum and since it is solid state storage is shock resistant. It’s available in 64GB ($229), 128GB ($399) or 256GB ($749).

The Iomega External USB 3.0 SSD has built-in encryption with no software to install, but it comes with other software included like: v.Clone, al PC cloning system, QuikProtect, a Backup software, and Retrospect, another backup software for Mac and PC.

Hitachi outs new 750GB 2.5-inch HDDs

Hitachi has unveiled a new family of HDDs that are aimed at use in mobile devices like netbooks and notebooks. The new drives have 750GB capacity and they will be offered in 5400-rpm and 7200-rpm versions. Each of the versions has the same platters inside.

Those new platters have 375GB per platter and allow the high capacity HDDs to fit into a standard 9.5mm form factor. The drives are also resistant to shock that mobile devices will encounter. The new drives are also the first from Hitachi to use Advanced Format with larger physical sector sizes to help use the storage area more efficiently.

Speedo unveils waterproof Aquashot camera that floats on water

Speedo used to just make apparel, but these days Speedo is a swimwear and an accessories manufacturer. The company has unleashed another Waterproof gadget to join the ranks of its previous Aquabeat Waterproof MP3 player.

The Speedo Aquashot can be submerged up to 3 meters and is shock resistant to up to 1 meter. That isn’t new. The interesting thing about this gadget is that it has the ability to float on water, which is a trick that most waterproof cameras don’t do.

Toshiba has a new automotive HDD with 200GB of storage. I guess it’s time to start figuring out which music and movies you want in your next car’s dashboard. Anything to quiet the kids. Toshiba’s 4,200 RPM SATA MK2060GSC HDD has a small form factor, durability, and a great storage size that everyone will want in their dashboard.

Corsair launches 32GB Flash Voyager Mini USB flash drive

Corsair has now added a new storage capacity to its Flash Voyager Mini USB flash drive series with the launch of the 32GB model. The increased capacity allows for a huge number of movies, music, photos etc to be stored in a format that’s about one third the size of typical USB Flash drives.

The drive sports a rubberized housing that is water resistant and shock proof, and the cap-less retractable USB connector uses COB (Chip-on-Board) technology. The 32GB Flash Voyager Mini sells for about $113.

OCZ unveils Vertex Limited Edition SSD

The SSD is at some point going to replace the traditional HDD in many instances. Before that can happen though the SSD has to get more storage capacity and come down in price significantly. The performance benefits of a SSD compared to a HDD are already there. OCZ has added a new SSD to its Vertex line called the Vertex Limited Edition.

The LE SSD has more performance than the standard Vertex lien of drives. The SSD offers TRIM support for Windows 7 and uses MLC NAND for storage. The drive can resist shock up to 1500G and supports RAID configurations.

It may not be Christmas time, but since the movie has such a cult following Adata has created a Jack Skellington USB flash drive from the movie ‘Tim Burton’s The Nightmare before Christmas’. Its made of rubber and comes in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB versions.

It is also water resistant and resistant to external shock. The USB connector as usual can be accessed by removing Jack’s head. It also comes with an extra USB cable.

Casio launches GA-100/100A G-Shock watches

Casio has announced its stylish GA-100/100A G-Shock watches, which boast an analog display and three dials on the face. These shock resistant watches feature a 1/1000-second stopwatch, velocity indicator, and are even magnetic resistance compliant with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Over-sized buttons make it easy to operate. Some other features include an anti-slip finish and a large face with easy-to-read displays. There are a three versions of the black GA-100 models and a few of the GA-100A models, which will come in yellow or white. Pretty nice.
