Posted in Watches by Darrin Olson on June 13th, 2010

G-Shock Watch designed by Dee & RickyWe’ve seen our share of G-Shock watches come down the pipe but never one designed quite like this. The new GA110DR-1A from G-Shock gets its primary-colored Lego design from New York fashion designers Dee & Ricky.

Although the watch has a toy-esque look to it, it still holds true to the G-Shock name with durable features including magnetic resistance, 200M water resistance, LED light, the ability to track time in 48 different cities, alarm, calendar and more.

Guy glues flies to paper airplanes, somewhere PETA cries

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2009

Some people have strange hobbies. Like this guy who forces innocent flies to carry paper airplanes made out of rolling papers. First he caches the fly and puts it in a plastic bag for safekeeping. Next he makes he plane. Once the plane is done, he “huffs” on the fly several times.(Seemed excessive to us, but to each his own) This is to get the hairs on the flie’s belly to stick to the superglue. Now is it?

After that, creepy dude goes outside with his new airplane toting slave and watches it fly. Other creepiness includes this dude waxing philosophic about that fateful day at Kittyhawk so many years ago. He says he sets them free when he’s done playing with them, but that’s not the same thing as leaving them the hell alone in the first place.

Pip-Boy 3000 iTouch

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

This is the coolest thing we’ve seen all day around here. Someone gutted one of those plastic Pip-Boy 3000 watches and installed an iPod Touch in it. It’s a super clever mod for wandering the wasrelands of the apocalypse.

An actual Pip-Boy 3000 program for the iPod Touch can’t be far behind. Looks like the program he’s showing off is a bunch of stills in the iPod’s photo program. Someone needs to take this idea and make a real honest to god Pip-Boy 3000.

Casio Robo-watches celebrate G-Shock anniversary

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on December 31st, 2008

Casio Robo-watches celebrate G-Shock anniversaryObviously this is a marketing gimmick. But ask yourself, are these robot watches more awesome than your typical watch? Hell yes. Casio’s 25 years of G-Shock celebration continues with the offering of a new set of character watches designed by Shiro Nakano.

Now that I’ve given you the good news, it’s time for the bad. These robot characters themselves are not available for sale. And yes, that’s a big mistake, because they are amazingly cool. They would make great desktop clocks. And good robot clocks are hard to find. Ask any robo-enthusiast.

Casio G-Shock G8100A-5 is slightly steampunk

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on August 17th, 2008

Casio G-Shock G8100A-5 is slightly steampunkThe Casio G-Shock G8100A-5 is a watch with typical modern features, while at the same time sporting a vague ‘antique’ design. Obviously Casio doesn’t want to miss out on the steampunk market. It’s got a bronze colored aluminum face and perforated resin band and a price tag of $99.

Even though this watch is only barely steampunk, it has a bunch of features like, auto dual electroluminescent backlights with ‘afterglow’, world time with 29 time zones and automatic daylight savings adjustments, 2 multi-function alarms, snooze alarm, timer that can countdown 1 minute to 24 hours, stopwatch, and it’s shock and water resistant to 200 meters. Not a bad watch if you want to look only slightly steampunk.

USB Owl is a strange desk pet

USB Owl is a strange desk pet
Here’s the latest in desk pets that plug into your usb port. This owl is cute, but kinda creepy. Sure, he comes off all wise and all, but I get the feeling that the minute you turn your back on him, he gets all evil. And we all know owls are nocturnal creatures. That means that while you are asleep, this bird is wide awake, plotting your eventual demise.

He has a clip that allows him to perch on top of your computer monitor, or you can use the optional tree-stump. He blinks and moves his head from side to side, while he watches you. He’ll also move his eyes around. He’ll be available on May 5, 2008 and will cost you about $26. If you give a hoot! Video after the jump.

New cell phone watches by LG

New cell phone watches by LG
LG Electronics showed off their Watch Phone concept during the Mobile World Congress 2008. Apparently, they want us all to communicate Get Smart style in the future.

Not much is known about these at the moment, except that it supports voice recognition function by using Bluetooth, enabling users to make calls or send text messages without using a keypad. Check out the video after the jump. These are nice looking watches as far as the face goes and since they are from LG, I’m sure the quality would be better then others on the market. Unfortunately, these will likely never come to market. At least, not as they are. But we can hope.
