Samsung BD-P1600 Netflix streaming Blu-ray player shows up

Posted in Blu-ray by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2009

Samsung BD-P1600 Netflix streaming Blu-ray player shows upSamsung’s new value priced Blu-ray player has been overlooked in favor of other better equipped players, but that doesn’t mean it’s not out there and being spotted at retail stores. This one was spotted on a Best Buy shelf.

Supposedly Blu-ray player prices will be dropping across the board, and it looks like Samsung is positioning the BD-P1600 as one of their lower-end models. $300 may not be dirt cheap but Netflix subscribers will probably like the unit. However wireless networking requires purchasing a Samsung USB accessory that isn’t released yet and BD Live requires at least 1GB of external storage.

Bakery mistake results in the creation of a USB Flash Drive CakeWe like geek cakes ’round these parts, as evidenced by our not one, but two compilations of geek cakes. But if you want a custom cake from a bakery, you better be specific about what it is that you want. Otherwise you end up with cake fail.

So check out this funny incident. Some guy orders a custom cake and asked that a photo of a friend be integrated into the decoration. Simple enough right? So he delivers the photo as a .JPG on a Lexar Jumpdrive Trio flash drive. And look what ended up on the cake.

Cyber Fox USB driveMeet Cyber Fox. You get to decapitate him every time you use your flash drive and shove his lifeless body into your laptop. It will serve as a good warning to all of those other cute and furry critters out there. Great for the dude with the anger problem. Might be therapeutic to use this thing whenever you get mad.

It would be pretty funny to see some guy get all agro and give a grunt as he rips this fox’s head off, flings it across the room and jams the body in the USB port. Just repeat, whenever you get mad. Sadly this fox doesn’t even look like the Firefox fox, or it might be cool.

BBQ USB flash drive: George Foreman approvesIt’s funny to see what type of person uses what USB flash drive. It says a lot about your personality. Jacques Cousteau would love the Squid flash drive, while Mahjong fans would want the Mahjong tile flash drive. But when it comes to a BBQ flash drive, who ya gonna call? George Foreman comes to mind, but he’d have to juggle it with the real thing and not get them confused.

They contain 2GB of storage space and you can choose from BBQ pork or drumstick versions. The pork will cost you $9.99 while the drumstick costs a couple dollars more. Compared to the real thing these have twice the data and 100% less fat.

Super Talent unearths Terra Cotta Warrior USB drives

Super Talent unearths Terra Cotta Warrior USB drivesSuper Talent is offering some terra cotta warrior USB drives that are life-like replicas of the ancient Xi’an warriors. They are just, you know, about 7cm tall. They’re fully compatibility with USB 1.1 and 2.0 and can be had in 1GB-8GB capacity. The drive also supports password protection.

In case you weren’t aware, in 1974 in Xi’an, China farmers were digging a well and discovered a huge underground cavern containing thousands of life sized terra cotta warriors. It was all very Indiana Jones. Funny thing is, in two thousand years, they’ll dig up a stash of these drives that some dude laid out all in a row and attribute some deep meaning to how we shaped our drives into the likeness of warriors. But really, some dude in a warehouse was just playing army guys.

Availabot gives you a physical IM status

Availabot shows when your IM friend is available online. This funny little USB peripheral called the Availabot is designed to work in conjunction with the instant messenger on your computer. It stands on a little marshmallow looking stand that connects via USB to your computer and gives you a physical representation of the availability of your friends on your IM application, laying flaccid when the contact is gone, and quickly standing upright when the contact is available.

The idea is pretty interesting (and funny) and the Availabots are completely customizable in the profile they store and in how they look. You can use as many of them at a time as you would like to dedicate a USB port for. The puppets currently work with iChat on Mac OS X 10.4 but the company has plans to extend them to other IM programs on the Mac and eventually Windows.
