Octane 120 Beer Arcade

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on July 13th, 2011

Driving games are great, but they have lacked one important thing. Beer. The Octane 120 Beer Arcade is a fully functioning gaming PC, with full driving controls, a built-in projector so you can play BIG and a dozen driving simulations pre-installed. So that takes care of the driving.

What about the drinking? Well, they have that covered too, for better or worse. Behind the seat, there is enough room for half a barrel of beer, with a tap in the middle of your controls, so that you can pour a fresh beer while driving.

Pac Man and Pac Man S released for Facebook

Posted in Facebook by Conner Flynn on June 2nd, 2011

Pac Man has been and continues to be one of the most popular arcade games ever. It never gets old. I don’t know how many quarters I fed into that machine when I was younger and I can still go back and play it now and again.

Now Pac Man is headed to Facebook thanks to Namco Bandai Games Europe. You will be able to play the regular version of Pac-Man and Pac-Man S, a version of the game with social functions built in. Get playing and chomp some ghosts.

PSN Outage Cost Capcom “Hundreds Of Thousands, If Not Millions”

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on May 9th, 2011

For most of us the PSN outage has just cost us some time playing the games that we love, but for others it has cost much more. PSN is losing money for developers just by keeping people from buying games and content.

VP Christian Svensson, in a post on the Capcom Unity forums says, “As an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage [is] obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget. These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans.” Hopefully Sony sorts things out sooner rather than later, but I think we can all agree that Sony and any hurt developers may have gotten a bit complacent in thinking that such a thing could never happen and not being at least a bit prepared for a scenario like this. Never put all of your eggs in one basket people.

Ringbow: A D-Pad For Tablets

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2011

Something interesting was shown off at a California Israel Chamber of Commerce demo event yesterday. Something that could improve the interface of touch-screen devices. It’s called the Ringbow, a ring-mounted, wireless pointing stick.

Think of it as a D-Pad for your tablet device. Touch-screen apps generally have limited ways to control them, so access to menu commands or secondary functions requires going to full menus, which is not ideal at all and not fast. The Ringbow makes going through accessory menus faster and less of a hassle.

PC Guitar mod

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on March 29th, 2011

Remember that Atari in a guitar hero guitar that I made awhile back? Well, here someone has crammed a full PC inside of an actual guitar. This mod comes from Journaldugeek user Joss.

Joss squeezed in a Intel Quad Core Q6700, Asus motherboard, 4 Gigs of RAM, 80GB raid, a MSI 8800 GTX graphics card and a 650W PSU Thermaltake Blue Evo power supply in a low range Ibiza guitar. Playing PC games on this thing would be very fun.

Pinball Magic turns your iPhone into a pinball machine

Posted in iPhone by Reuben Drake on March 17th, 2011

Who doesn’t love a game of pinball? Sadly those quarters add up and it can get expensive. Plus Pinball machines take up a lot of space. That’s why we play virtual pinball games on our phones and computer, but this doesn’t equal the same kind of fun.

Pinball Magic won’t give you the same experience as a full-sized pinball machine, but it will give you the experience of playing pinball on a machine designed for tiny people. It will work with a free pinball app that’s available from the Apple App Store, and it works with all iPhone and iPod Touch models that use iOS 3.0 or higher. Just $64.

Philips unveils Dual View Gaming TV screens

Posted in Philips by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2011

Philips has just unveiled some new TV screens especially for gamers. The displays come with a new function called Dual View Gaming, which allows users to play multiplayer games without having to use split screen. This is great because it will prevent cheating and give players more screen room to view while playing.

It’s similar to what Sony revealed last month, but we don’t know if Philips is using the same technology as Sony or not. Players use special glasses to separate what they are seeing. So, would you be interested in buying this?

DirecTV has announced that they have plans to introduce an iPad app. The app would integrate the company’s wide range of satellite TV services. It will allow users to organize their favorite channels, browse sports games and view scores, tune into channels, or view other information like cast names and parental ratings.

Users can configure their home screen and customize the layout for their favorite channels, sports rosters, and modules for other content. It will work with any HD DVR connected to the home network, while the DVR functions can be controlled remotely. Sounds great for DirectTV users.

Kinect and Wiimote hack for Dead Space 2

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on February 12th, 2011

We’ve seen other hacks where the Kinect uses a Nintendo Wiimote, but the creator of this hack used the FAAST emulator for the Kinect and GlovePIE for the Wiimote, allowing you to have some pretty interesting Dead Space 2 games.

One interesting aspect of this hack is the ability to stomp on your the aliens in the game, which looks very satisfying. I’d love to play DS2 like this. Looks like a lot of fun.

Activision considering closing PS3 Black Ops servers

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on January 19th, 2011

An Activision support representative has suggested that Activision may be considering or has considered the possibility of closing PS3 Black Ops servers due to problems reported by players. If you play Black Ops on the PS3, then you know those problems very well.

A refund petition was started last year and had 8,800 signatures after 5 weeks. Players are complaining of frame rate issues, disconnects, lagging and hard freezes and other problems. I don’t know about you, but I play all the time and while there are problems, I spend 99% of my time just playing and enjoying flawless games.

SEGA public urinal / game console

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2010

SEGA, not content with Sonic and other fun games, has a new console that will revolutionize the industry. Or at least the men’s room. Known as ‘Toirettsu’, these urinals will have a sensor target which is capable of detecting when it’s being peed on, and it will know the strength of the stream. This data will tie into mini games that are displayed on an eye-level LCD display.

You can do stuff like fight fires or shoot milk out of your character’s nose. All brought to you by the power of pee and Sega. Fighting boss battles together in a restroom hopefully not near you.

Rock Band Storage Ottoman from Level Up

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on November 17th, 2010

Rock Band is fun, but those fake instruments and accessories sure do take up a lot of room. Now LevelUp has a solution for you with the Rock Band Storage Ottoman. It’s an ottoman made of wood with fake black leather for the cover. There are also Velcro loops under the lid for two guitar controllers. The drum kit stores in the bottom once it’s disassembled.

But that’s not all. There are other pockets on the inside for storing the drumsticks and the microphone. You can even add trays to hold video games and normal controllers from your game console. The black version is aptly called Back in Black and will cost you $89.99 at Costco.
