WiFi HTC Flyer hits the FCC

Posted in HTC by Reuben Drake on April 28th, 2011

Want to know where to find the FCC label on the HTC Flyer? This handy drawing will help. If you really love the device you can display it on your fridge like a proud parent. The 7-inch Android device has just been approved by the FCC. It appears to be a WiFi-only model, also tested for BlueTooth compliance, but lacking 3G.

Hopefully you took care of your pre-order last week. Now all you need to do is wait for this $499 piece of Gingerbread. We hope that it ships soon now that we have this cool drawing.

Samsung’s LCD fridge gets a price

Posted in Samsung by Reuben Drake on April 18th, 2011

Samsung has now priced its four-door, Energy Star-rated LCD refrigerator and it is just as expensive as you might expect at $3,499 retail. It will arrive late next month. The RF4289 fridge offers 28 cubic feet of storage, including a customizable, counter-height “flex-zone” drawer with a moveable divider. This is for serious food eaters/storage enthusiasts.

It also features LED lighting and Samsung’s twin coolingplus system that separately circulates the air inside the freezer and refrigerator to eliminate odor and keep perishable produce fresher for a longer period of time. If that isn’t enough, there’s an 8-inch, Wi-Fi-enabled LCD touchscreen too, which includes several apps, including Epicurious, Weatherbug, Pandora, AP News, Google Calendar, Picasa Photos and Twitter.

Gaming seat made from a Mini Cooper

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on February 27th, 2011

Do you have a spare Mini Cooper in your garage? If so, maybe you can make an awesome gaming chair out of it like Designer David Gawthorpe did with this halfcut of a Mini Cooper. It took two-years to do, but he stuck with it and the end result is pretty stunning.

It opens up to reveal a force feedback chair, speakers, a racing wheel, and pedals for all your racing games. There’s also a mini fridge, strobe lights and even a smoke machine. Beneath the seat there is an Xbox 360 console. It will cost you $12,883 (£8000) and it is in London.

Eat and Tweet with the new Samsung WiFi-enabled RF4289 fridge

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on January 13th, 2011

Samsung’s new RF3289 fridge allows users to access Pandora or even tweet while finding a snack. The fridge is the first of its kind to feature integrated WiFi that will let you view Google calendars, check the weather, download recipes from Epicurious, or leave digital reminders and notes. If there is such a thing as being too connected, this right here may be it. I’m surprised it doesn’t tell your Facebook friends what you are eating.

The fridge has an 8-inch LCD touchscreen as well as a Twin Cooling Plus System that keeps perishable produce fresher for longer. The RSG309 and RF4289 models also provide plenty of storage space. Both will be available in Canada later this year.

White iPhone 4 Ornament

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 12th, 2010

The white iPhone 4 may be just a dream, but at least you can still have one on or under your tree this Christmas. That’s because a seller at Etsy has made some white iPhone 4 Christmas tree ornaments. The ornament measures 3″ x 1.5″ and comes ready for hanging on your tree.

It also has magnets on the backside so that it can also be used as a fridge magnet after the holidays are over. It’s just $10 and will have to do since you can’t get the real deal.

PadTab wall mounts iPad and other tablets

Posted in Accessories by Shane McGlaun on September 3rd, 2010

I have always wanted to have one of those fancy home automation systems that would control the lights in my home with the push of a button. I also want a touchscreen on the wall to control the system too. If you have the home automation system and want the touchscreen controller on the wall a new system to mount the iPad to the wall may be perfect for you, assuming you can control your system with the iPad.

The mount system is called PadTab. It is pictured with the iPad, but it would work with most tablets. The system is a couple plastic tabs with a square that goes on your iPad and is about as thick as a nickel. Another tab mounts to your wall or other vertical surface and is much smaller than the tablet side.

Freshness timer strips help you to avoid spoiled food

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on April 4th, 2010

It happens to the best of us. There’s always something in the back of the fridge that should have been eaten a long time ago. But now, whatever it used to be, is furry, moldy and putrid. That’s an easy call. Just toss it out. But what about something you are unsure of. It might be safe, might not be.

Designer Yeom Ha-na has come up with the Foodmer, which is basically a custom programmed expiration date reminder for all your fresh food. Not many details about how it works, but apparently you can program each strip with a freshness duration, and the red line will slowly get longer until its throw away time.

GorillaPod goes magnetic

Posted in Cameras by Conner Flynn on February 18th, 2010

GorillaPod, the very useful bendy tripod has just announced its newest version: GorillaPod Magnetic. This version has magnets on its feet, allowing it to attach to just about any magnetic surface and do it’s duty.

It still works without sticking to a surface, of course, if you want to use it that way. But it’s much more versatile with it’s new ability. Expect it to be available in April for all of your odd tripod needs.

Fruit Slide is way cooler than a bowl for your fruit

Posted in Kitchen Gadgets by Shane McGlaun on February 3rd, 2010

We go through lots of fruit in our house and most of it is apples. We tend to throw the apples in the fridge in a bowl. My daughter is too small to open the fridge and get an apple herself, which means I have to get them for her and any parent of a young child knows they want to be independent. The fruit also tends to be bruised easily in a bowl and my kids won’t eat bruised apples.

A new fruit holder that should work for any roundish fruit like apples and oranges has been unveiled by Swedish designers Michael Andersson and Maria Axelqvist. The thing is a tube that curls around and looks like a little version of a water slide with an open top and should prevent bruises pretty well.

Window Fridge lets you decide before opening

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on January 21st, 2010

It’s a common practice around the world. You open the fridge and then just stand looking at all of your choices. Problem is you are wasting electricity and letting the cold out. The Window Fridge is a concept that eliminates the need to open the fridge, by providing a window.

That helps save the environment while you ponder whether you would like a Coke, Pepsi or Dr. Pepper. The fridge has a tube design that makes it easy to open the panel and spy on all of your food inside.

90 Second Beer Chiller

Posted in Kitchen Gadgets by Conner Flynn on December 3rd, 2009

90 Second Beer ChillerSo you want a nice cold beer, but all you have is warm. Well, there’s no need to pop them in the fridge and wait forever for them to get cold. The solution? A simple box with some ice in it that rotates your beer, getting it ice cold quick. Just 90 seconds apparently.

Sure, it’s work, but isn’t a cold beer worth it? It will cost you $15. And don’t think that you can just stick your beer in a bucket of ice and get the same result. Obviously the magic here is in the rotating. This is beer science. Don’t question it.

Firebox launches Digital Video Memo

Posted in Digital Photo Frames by Conner Flynn on November 23rd, 2009

Firebox launches Digital Video MemoIt’s the 21st century. Time to stop using post-it notes and leave messages in a more high-tech way. Now you can leave a note to whoever you like by recording a 30 second video message with the press of a button. Think about it. A note written note on the fridge that simply says, “Keep your hands off my Ice Cream” is fine, but it doesn’t have the same impact as a video note saying the same thing, where your tone of voice and scowl make it very clear that your words are to be heeded.

Once you’ve recorded your message, the LED light will flash to alert passers by that there’s a message. They press play and get yelled at via the 1.5-inch OLED display.
