LG converts container ship into a huge advertisement for eco-friendly fridgeIn a great bit of marketing, LG is attempting to lure consumers toward its latest energy efficient refrigerator with an unusual launch. The company has designed a 70-meter long container ship disguised as their new refrigerator.

The football field sized ship/refrigerator sailed up the Seine from Le Havre to Paris between June 22 and June 25. The company brags that the refrigerator consumes low power, though we aren’t confident that the worldwide launch of this new LG side-by-side refrigerator was anywhere near environmentally-friendly. But it is clever.

Recording Can fridge guard/alarmThis little gadget is supposed to look like a standard canned drink, so it can blend into the surroundings in your fridge. Even though no one would ever mistake it for a real drink called “Fridge Recorder”. It’s light activated, so whenever someone opens the fridge door, the recorded message of your choice will play.

Stuff Like, “Step away fatty!” or “Haven’t you had enough junk today? Look at that fat ass.” or even “Obey the fake drink can. The fake drink can is now your master.” If you have roommates, this might help to stop them from stealing your stuff. It’s likely to be entertaining for a full 5 minutes.

Endo Magnets hang up to 1-lb objects on your fridgeIf you’ve ever experienced your share of weak magnets, you can appreciate a good strong magnet. Ever had a magnet on your fridge holding a sheet of paper that is so weak, that you walk by and both magnet and paper fall to the floor? Or a magnet that won’t even fix two or three pieces of paper to the fridge? It’s those little annoyances that we could all do without.

These Endo magnet clips will do the job. Hell, if you want to put a heavy shoe on your fridge, you can. And it will stay. In fact, they can bear a load of 1 LB. Holds 20 sheets of paper. You could even hang up some of your gadgets and keep them organized. Just clip them in place. I’m not saying it’s a good idea to be hanging shoes on your fridge, but it’s nice to know you can.

Fridge uses zero electricity, cools with fire

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2008

Fridge uses zero electricity, cools with fireA research team at Stanford has developed a refrigeration device the size of a thermos. What’s interesting is that it uses no electricity. Zip. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Instead, it contains some kind of coolant that becomes cold when it’s exposed to heat.

Details are scarce, but the units would be fairly cheap to produce at about $50. The price makes it an ideal way to deliver medicines and cold water to developing countries as well as having a bunch of other uses a bit more noble then your next camping trip. It’s a great breakthrough. All a user would need to cool any given thing is fire, which is readily available.

Well, now someone’s taken a Lego R2 and made him into a USB drive. Which is neat and all, but he still ain’t gettin no respect. Because when you plug the little guy into your usb port, he just looks like he got shot out of a cannon and got stuck in your laptop and should be flailing his legs. Such is the life of an overly merchandised droid.

Skybar Wine Cabinet beats drinking from the bottle

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on September 19th, 2008

Skybar Wine Cabinet beats drinking from the bottleWine connoisseurs will tell you that you have to store wine at the correct temperature. You can’t just throw it in your fridge. Plus you probably shouldn’t drink it straight from the bottle or serve it in a cup that has a cartoon character. You should store it and serve it in style. That’s where Skybar comes in.

It’s a “Wine Preservation and Optimization System”, that houses three chilled chambers to serve three seperate wines. A small LCD displays the temperature and you can even choose from nine preset chilling options. The device also features vacuum technology that helps to preserve wine for 10 days without any change in taste. It will even pour it for you. It will cost you $1,000, so I imagine some of you will stop reading now and go drink from the bottle.

FRED UFO Humidifier makes abductions humid, probes moist

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on September 16th, 2008

FRED UFO Humidifier makes abductions humid, probes moistFRED isn’t the hippest name for a UFO shaped humidifier, but hey it’s a UFO in your room, which is always awesome, so call it whatever you like. This UFO runs on steam, not gravity waves, using a 2 gallon water reservoir to boil 1-2 gallons of water per day, making your environment pleasantly humid, moist and tropical. The way “their” home planet is.

See, once they convert your home into a rough approximation of their atmosphere, it makes the whole abduction thing much easier. This way, they can take their time, raid your fridge, flip through your iTunes library and do whatever invasive stuff they do to orifices. But don’t worry, chances are you won’t remember and if you do, you can take some consolation in the fact that FRED is available in 4 different colors for $99.

Electrolux Flatshare Fridge is awesomely modular

Electrolux Flatshare Fridge is awesomely modularLook no further for a brilliant fridge concept. The Flatshare Fridge was created by Stefan Buchberger from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna for the annual Electrolux Design Lab competition. The idea is to have a fridge that is perfectly suited for college kids who have roommates.

It’s modular design features separate compartments that allow each ‘flatmate’ to have their own mini fridge. Because nobody likes to share and it’s just good to keep your stuff from colliding with someone else’s stuff. Not everyone has good hygiene, or good taste. No one is getting the short end of the stick with this design either, as each section has a tall area for bottles and a smaller side for other stuff.

Made for iPod refrigerator

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on September 1st, 2008

Made for iPod refrigeratorMaking its appearance at IFA 2008 in Berlin, the Made for iPod refrigerator is the first of it’s kind. Gorenje might have a winner on it’s hands with this here fancy fridge. Sure, we’ve seen refrigerators with a bunch of multimedia features that allow you to listen to music, watch TV, even surf net, but this is Apple certified. It features a built-in iPod docking station and speakers, so as you might expect, you can play music and video and connect to the internet via a Wi-Fi network.

Apparently by integrating the iPod with iGorenj app, you can control all kinds of Gorenje appliances like washing machines and the oven for instance. The app is not built for iPhone/iPod touch, it’s served from a home server that controls your appliances directly. That way you can use the iPod touch, but also any other web device in your home that uses a Wi-Fi network. Looks like we may have an iKitchen sooner then some of us thought.
