Brando HD Media Player Docking Station does multi-format 1080p Brando loves to release docking stations for your SATA HDDs every couple of months. This latest unit adds H.264 decoding to the already present DivX, Xvid and MPEG-4 and outputs to full 1080p. It features HDMI and a bunch of supported media formats. It gives you a lot of options.

This new device accepts 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives as well as USB flash memory, SD, MMC, and MS cards. There’s much to like. Until you get to the price, which is $199. There are nicer looking alternatives available for about half that.

For this type of users the new Split Stick may be perfect .The device is a double-sided flash drive that is more like two drives grafted on to the end of each other. The drive has one USB connector and a switch that changes between one 2GB flash device or the other.

Intel announces industry’s first 34nm SSDs

intelssd43-sbAs NAND flash makers reduce the size of the build process they use a lot of good things happen. The products using the flash storage derived from the NAND products consumer less power, produce less heat, and can be mode for less money.

Intel has announced the industry’s first 34nm SSDs this week that reduce the price of the SSDs by up to 60% compared to the previous 50nm Intel SSDs. The new MLC X25-M SSD is intended for the laptop and desktop market and is available in 80GB and 160GB capacities.

Crucial has announced a new line of SSDs called the M225 series that offers up blazing fast performance. The M225 series offers read speeds of 250MB/sec and write speeds of 200MB/sec. Inside the standard 2.5-inch drive housing Crucial uses MLC NAND flash.

Kingston's 256GB flash driveWow. Just one month after breaking the 128GB barrier, Kingston has released the 256GB DataTraveler 300. That didn’t take long at all. It’s the highest capacity available on the market.

Up to 90% of the drives content can be password protected and conveniently accessed with the new Password Traveler software. Sadly, it isn’t available in the US, but if it is soon, it will cost around $900.

Vacuum Tube flash driveVacuum tubes powered a whole bunch of gadgets in the past. They even continue to show up in or on our gadgets today. So what could be cooler than a Vacuum tube flash drive? Thanks to the folks at CF14 Industries we now have real Vacuum Tube Flash Drives.

The Atari USB flash drive comes with a USB cable to plug into your computer since the thing is too big to just hang off the USB port. It does evoke some nostalgia from those of us old enough to remember the Atari 2600.

Robot USB flash drives with personalityIf you’ve been reading the ‘Brick for awhile then you know that we dig robots. We really love robot flash drives. But as we’ve said before, it’s hard to find decent ones. Well, at last here are some that have true personality.

There are six different models in various shapes and colors, all cute,awesome and retro. They come with a 2 gigabyte storage capacity and their LED eyes even light up when you plug them in. There are the six different colors in all: yellow, black, blue, pink, red and white. These little guys are amazing. I’m gonna order one myself.

It allows users to create an encrypted profile and set redundant file backups to the external hard drive. You can also archive past versions of files as they are modified for access later.

With Dmailer Backup, users can also back up files to a personal online “cloud” that can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet using a simple, search-engine type interface. Dmailer Backup doesn’t require any installation and is Mac and PC compatible. You can pre-order today and it will ship early next week.

At long last, we have something for all of that silence in our mansions. The MusicCAST2 supports various file formats including iTunes AAC, MP3, WMA, FLAC and WAV, and can play back tunes from iPods, Bluetooth devices and other Yamaha accessories with its built-in dock port.

If you prefer, you can even plug in USB flash drives and the MusicCAST2 can also pull audio from sources such as Rhapsody, Internet radio, PC and Macs and NAS devices.

Dane-Elec sells games on USB flash drivesDane-Elec has decided to sell games in a new way. One that has nothing to do with the optical disc format but instead is in the form of a USB flash drive. As you might expect, these are bargain bin titles.

Dane-Elec will make available older titles like Rainbow Six Lockdown , Blazing Angels and Fashion Designer which are going for just $19.99 or $24.99, depending on the game. I guess the upside is that after the installation, and after you’ve beaten the game in a few hours, you can use them as standard USB flash drives.

Edge Tech is right behind them, with an offering that does away with some of the added security and ruggedness of Kingston’s and knocks $150 off the price.

Edge Tech’s DiskGO drive features 128GB storage capacity, with a durable aluminum housing and some basic encryption software for extra protection. For a savings of $150, you may want consider this one.
