Making USB drives that function in other ways seems to be all the rage. While this one won’t open a cold one, the Aigo USB flash drive you see here features an odd cap to protect the USB connector. No, this USB drive doesn’t double as a baby pacifier, but good guess. The cap is shaped like an apple and doubles up as a paperclip. I’m not sure anyone needs a paperclip so badly that they must have one on their USB drive, but what do I know. It’s available in 2GB and 4GB capacities, and retails for $18 and $28, respectively.

Kensington has itself today some new accessories for notebook, iPhone and iPod users. A small range of devices prices between around $30 and $60 and should all be available at retail by the end of this month.

The products included in today’s release are a four-port USB charger for mobile devices, a media sharing cable and several car mounts for iPhones and iPods. You can get full details from Kensington after the jump.

On the sickeningly cute side of USB flash drives come these Cat’s Paw drives. The Cat’s Paw USB flash drive comes in just one memory size, 2GB, but on the other paw hand you can choose from blue, black and white colors.

The price is a steep $61.38, but maybe it could be your new lucky charm. Sort of a modern day rabbit’s foot that holds data and occasionally grants wishes. It should be noted that if you have actual cats, they’re going to wonder who lost a paw and if they are next. I like to think that the white/pink one is a limited edition of four that they acquired after holding Hello Kitty down in a butcher’s shop, but that’s just me.

The SSD offers some nice benefits to the notebook users like increased battery life, faster boot times, and quieter operation. The catch is that at this time SSDs are significantly more expensive than comparable hard drives and the storage capacity of the typical SSD is low.

Intel has jumped into the SSD market with the introduction of a pair of SSDs aimed at consumers. The new SSDs include the X18-M and the X25-M. The X18-M is a 1.8-inch drive and the X25-M is a more traditional 2.5-inch size drive. Intel says that the improved performance of the SSD helps reduce bottlenecks between its CPUs and the storage system. This is the SSD used in the HP system claiming 24-hours of runtime.

Fans of Japanese manga Evangelion will love this USB flash drive inspired by the series so much that they’ll toss their old flash drives aside. Then there are those who will keep it in the box and preserve it like an Egyptian mummy in the hopes that it is a collector’s item that will make them rich one day. Dream big my geek friends. A bit more morbid, but probably great for Halloween or a gift if you want to give someone the finger. If you’re going for the look of a bullet entering your laptop, this USB drive is perfect. It’s a series of awesome looking flash drives that are a collaboration between Crooks & Castles and Hellz with branding & strategic consulting firm Mojo Laboratories.

Last week Lexar announced a 16GB version of its FireFly flash drive. Today, Lexar announced a new 16GB JumpDrive Secure II Plus flash drive that doubles the capacity previously available. The drive features an external display to show how much storage is left on the drive at a glance.

The Folderix USB flash drives from Art Lebedev, the team behind the Optimus Maximus keyboard, are designed to look like a folder icon, and feature 4GB of storage space. We told you about these when they were still in the concept stage. The good news for those of you who want them is that they are now available from the artlebedev.com website. The price is $55 and you get three colors to choose from: yellow, pink or blue. The case material uses multiple colors of aluminum with a laser-etched logo.

Wood classes up almost any gadget. Even simple USB drives. But when you give the Wii a woodgrain makeover, the result is simply awesome. It’s as if the the old Atari woodgrain consoles merged with the Wii. Much better then boring Wii white. For now it’s just a concept design by Joe D, which is a shame. Nintendo would sell a ton of product.

Joe’s concept apparently has a layer of woodgrain veneer on the Wii-Mote, Nunchuk, even the Classic Controller and Nyko Perfect Shot. That’s sweet enough, but he also gave the controllers get some bright white backlit buttons and black paint to bring out the wood. Once you see design like this it’s hard to come back to reality and pick up your white wiimote.

Lexar has gone and increased the storage capacity of its popular, and small, FireFly USB flash drive. You can now pick up a 16GB version for around $100.

Best Buy has officially announced a new Best Buy Express kiosk pilot program that will put Best Buy kiosks in airports around the country. Items inside the kiosks are said to sell for the same price the item sells for in the retail store — so no gouging. Best Buy says it teamed with ZoomSystems to launch the test.

Lenovo is showing some olympic spirit with their new line of Mascot series flash drives, which will remind you of the Olympics and it’s mascots long after they are over. The series consists of 6 colorful 4GB units that will cost around $30 each.

Lenovo didn’t just go all Olympic wild suddenly for no reason, they are the official flash drive designer and manufacturer for the event. They’ve got another series that resemble medallions.
