Supermarket Electric Vehicle concept makes shopping easier, shoppers fatter

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on April 20th, 2010

Remember in the Wall-E movie where all of the future humans were lethargic and fat, riding around in hover chairs. Well, this is where it starts. Right here with this concept. Some future fatty may need to put down the soda and chips long enough to time-travel back to 2010 and fight this thing.

A designer has come up with a nice leisurely way to pick up the groceries with this Supermarket Electric Vehicle. The battery-powered vehicle will allow you to zip around the aisles without having to burn a single calorie.

Elevating wheelchair concept

Elevating wheelchair conceptHere’s a design that should help those who have trouble getting around. The design is smart. In fact the Elevating Wheelchair concept is smart enough to go from sitting and standing like a transformer.

The electric-powered wheelchair could also serve as a vehicular concept at some point in the far future, but for now we would be happy to see the disabled using this in the real world. It would give them more mobility and independence.

The Victor Multi-Kill: Like sending mice to the electric chair

The Victor Multi-Kill: Like sending mice to the electric chairThere are plenty of options when it comes to getting rid of mice. There’s the old mousetrap that in all likelihood will snap back on your finger and have you hopping around in pain. There are glues, baits, traps and varmint catchers of every kind. But when you absolutely need to exterminate these little guys with extreme prejudice, there’s this thing. The Victor Multi-Kill trap.

Looks like some modded lunchbox, but what’s inside isn’t your lunch. The Victor uses a high-voltage shock to murder any mouse in its path cold dead in just 3 seconds, then it dumps the carcass into the collection box for disposal. So, it’s kinda like a mouse-mob hit. Quick and behind closed doors. They claim it’s effective enough to get rid of all your mice in a single night. You might thnk this is inhumane, but if they really do die in 3 seconds, there’s very little suffering compared to other traps.

Mind blowing chair sends images to brain via skin

Posted in Furniture by Conner Flynn on February 5th, 2008

Mind blowing chair is creepyThe Mind Chair will blow your mind if the product description is accurate and can be believed. It uses sensory substitution techniques that enable the sitter to see moving images right in their brain. The nerves in the skin are the mode of transport. Cool and yet very very creepy. Just sit somebody down in this thing and you could interrogate them as if you had just pumped them full of psychotropic drugs.

The Mind Chair will be made available to curious onlookers at the MoMA in New York as part of the Design and the Electric Mind exhibition. Problem is, like a scene from some Phillip K. Dick novel, did you experience what you thought you did? Or in reality did they sit you down in that chair and brainwash you? I suppose you’ll never know. Sucks to be you. I’m staying away from the chair, thank you.

OLED TV won’t arrive until next year

Sony XEL-1 OLED television display to go on sale next yearWhen organic light-emitting diode (OLED) televisions were first put on display people were immediately grabbed by the stunning resolution and bright color capabilities possible. Place an OLED TV beside a plasma or LED TV and the difference is immediate. That is also true if you place the price tag of the OLED beside the plasma/LED. Because OLED technology is still new the price range for these kinds of TVs are astronomical. The first commercial OLED TV is Sony’s XEL-1 and its 11-inch display will set you back about $1,800 if you can find one (they are only available in Japan right now.)

Today the chairman of Sony said that the company will begin to sell OLED televisions in America starting next year. “When you look at OLED, your impulse is to say ‘wow’. We need that reaction from people at Sony … it’s a statement of confidence, that there is a path to somewhere else,” said Howard Stringer at a Sony vision seminar held in Tokyo.

LA Auto Show: Chevy Volt EREV targeted for 2010

GM says the Chevy Volt EREV will be ready for production in 2010Yesterday at the LA Auto Show Bob Lutz, GM Vice Chairman, announced November of 2010 as the target date for the production release of the Chevy Volt Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV). This is the most specific time frame heard from GM yet on the concept vehicle originally announced at the Detroit Auto Show in January, and Lutz himself admits that the time frame is aggressive.

To us this seems very aggressive since just the day before we actually drove a Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell which is already going in the hands of real drivers in Project Driveway starting in January, and according to Fuel Cell Commercialization Manager Britta Gross the Equinox Fuel Cell won’t be ready for production before 2010, either. This announcement will however keep Toyota on their toes, as they are also trying to get a battery-powered vehicle off the ground in the near future.

Inflight Power Charges Your Gadgets in Coach

Posted in Chargers,USB by Chris Weber on June 29th, 2007

Inflight Power Recharger uses airplane headphone jackFirst class passengers often are fortunate enough to have an outlet in-flight while the rest of us have to scramble at the terminal looking behind chairs for an open outlet to charge our gadgets between flights. Inflight Power has a charger cable that may even things out a bit.

The Inflight USB Power Unit plugs into the headphone jack available in most coach seats, (now that most don’t use the two little “sound holes” any longer) and makes that electricity available through USB ports on the device. I’m not sure exactly how …
