Like most disasters, the tsunami and earthquake have faded from the headlines and so faded from people’s thoughts. Just because it isn’t the top headline doesn’t mean those folks are just fine now. They still need aid.

The best part is that 100% of profits go to Japanese Red Cross Society and to Safecast radiation monitoring efforts.

This is not a great time to be Sony. It was affected both by the massive earthquake in March and the PSN outage from April into May. Sony is set to announce its full financial report for the fiscal year this Thursday and it isn’t looking great.

Previously Sony predicted a ¥70 billion ($855 million) profit, but now thinks a ¥260 billion ($3.14 billion) loss is more likely. The earthquake was directly blamed for a loss of ¥22 billion, but that figure might even grow as this estimate is only through the end of March. Sony also has an early guess of a ¥14 billion (about $172 million) total cost for the PSN breach. But again that figure may increase.

When we base so much of the world’s tech in one area of the globe, there are bound to be problems when natural disasters strike. Nokia has issued a statement on its operations in light of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The company’s end results for the quarter probably won’t be affected, but some gadgets may be delayed as the parts supply has been understandably interrupted. The company has pledged to do it’s best to work with suppliers inside and outside of Japan to work around the problem if they have to.

As you might expect, many technology companies have been affected by the Japanese quake and Tsunami. Some have had killed or wounded employees, or had their factories damaged etc. I think we would all just wish for them to get some stability at home and be safe before we worry about delays of our devices.

As you may or may not know Japan is prone to many an earthquake. Japan’s major cities have an extended underground transportation system. So when a quake happens, people could be potentially trapped for long periods of time and suffer from dehydration.

That’s where these updated vending machines come into play. During an emergency, they’ll give out free drinks. But…Won’t people just turn into A-holes and start fighting over the drinks?

This robotic crawler will soon to be inducted in Yokohama’s fire department. It’s designed to carry a human from the disaster zone to safety. In an earthquake rescue workers can load an injured person in the crawler and that person will be carried from the site to relief operations. It has four wheel belts and can easily move over rubble and other obstacles.

Interestingly, this project was nearly destroyed by a California earthquake, proving that God and the devil really do fight and that anyone building a religious case mod ends up in the middle. I’m guessing it sends you straight to hell if it catches you looking at porn.

Those who live in Japan never know when the next big earthquake is going to hit. So the order of the day is to be prepared. Be prepared for the earthquake and if you have pets, be prepared to be a sucker and get them a cat or dog survival suit.
