Armor sleeve packs a stun-gun and laser

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on June 1st, 2011

Police will soon have more weapons on them, specifically on their sleeve thanks to designer David Brown. He has developed a new sleeve for police that fits on the user’s hand. It can be deployed instantly and packs a high-voltage tazer type stunner, a video camera, a laser pointer and a flashlight.

The device weighs less than three pounds and is meant to be worn as a glove. There are buttons on the palm to use the stunner, camera, laser and the flashlight. It’s just a concept right now, but hopefully soon it can help police.

Titanium ARMOR iPad cover

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on February 21st, 2011

We’ve seen our share of iPad covers, but the ARMOR cover may be the best when it comes to simplicity and protection. There’s an aluminum version for $75 and a titanium version for $160. It was designed by Japanese metal workers to provide the best protection for the iPad’s screen and let’s face it, that’s the part you worry about.

It may not have an embedded keyboard, or a kick stand, but with this material you won’t have to worry about your device at all, and that beats having those extras.

Researchers invent glass that is as strong as steel

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on January 12th, 2011

We all know that Gorilla glass is unbreakable. It is used in products like the Zune HD and Galaxy Tab, as well as some HDTVs, because it is super strong. Well, now we have something even better thanks to a group of scientists who have created glass that is as tough as steel.

Developed by a team of scientists from the Berkeley Lab and the California Institute of Technology, this palladium-based glass “bends rather than crack – giving it a fracture toughness that goes beyond the limits of some of the strongest and toughest materials known.” That’s pretty darn tough.

Seagate stuffs 3TB drives in BlackArmor NAS box

Posted in Seagate by Conner Flynn on October 3rd, 2010

Seems like just yesterday that an entire network attached storage box held just 3TB all told, but now Seagate boasts that capacity with a single five-platter drive, and so the NAS are getting larger as well. Seagate has added its 3TB drive to the 2- and 4-slot BlackArmor NAS boxes, taking capacity up to 12TB.

Both systems will come pre-populated with 3TB drives in each bay. The BlackArmor NAS 440 is configured with RAID 5 and ships with 10 backup software licenses right out-of-the-box, while the NAS 220 ships with RAID 1 configuration for automatic data mirroring and five backup software licenses.

Homemade Fallout 3 plasma rifle

Posted in Weapons by Conner Flynn on August 24th, 2010

The A3-21 Plasma Rifle kicks ass in Fallout 3 and it looks pretty awesome in the real world too. Ryan Palser created this bad boy, which took five months to complete. His wife painted it up real nice to give it the weathered look. If they ever make a Fallout movie, they better turn to Ryan and wife for props.

We’d love to see more of Fallout’s weapons in real life, maybe even some Brotherhood of Steel armor. To paraphrase the song from the game, Ryan doesn’t want to set the world on fire, he just wants to start a flame in our hearts with this beast.

Iron Man Xbox 360 on Ebay

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on August 23rd, 2010

We’ve seen plenty of painted and modded Xbox 360s in our day, even an Xbox 360 laptop, but until now we’ve never seen what Tony Stark’s Xbox 360 looks like.

And thanks to Zachariah Perry Cruse, we now know. It looks just like his armor. The design student spent his summer vacation creating his very own Iron Man Xbox 360. It’s not the slim 360 console, but it has a 120GB hard drive and an HDMI socket. Why not place a bid?

Posted in Tablet PC by Shane McGlaun on August 12th, 2010

I never really thought I would like a table computer until I used my iPad. I really like the tablet form factor, but that iPad is too fragile for working stiffs who are out in the field all day. A new tablet machine that meets military specs for ruggedness has been unveiled by Armor.

7 foot tall Halo Elite costume is scary

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on June 30th, 2010

The Halo aliens look scary on screen. I mean these are some bad-ass aliens, huge aliens, in armor. With guns. Everytime I play, I thank god I’ve never seen the real thing. Now I have. And I have wet myself.

This costume is so realistic, it’s scary. The animatronic Halo Elite costume was created by effects artist Pete Mander and could easily be used in a movie. It’s over seven feet tall and took countless hours to build. The man is a genius.

Samsung breaks dodgeball world record to celebrate Reality handset launch

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on May 21st, 2010

Dodgeball – never was a word uttered by a middle school coach that thrilled some and terrified others at the same time. This is the game coaches use to weed out the weak as they sat around laughing while the kids that throw really hard aim for the testicles of the fat slow kid.

I thought once adulthood came around dodgeball was something you didn’t play again, but Samsung has proven that wrong by holding a massive game and setting a Guinness World Record to celebrate the Verizon launch of the Reality mobile phone. The record breaking game had 712 players and 600 balls.

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2010

The LG Ally was recently acknowledged to actually exist, but aside from that, we knew very little. Well, now the phone has it’s own page on the company’s website, which is also a nice little commercial for Iron Man 2.

Aside from pimping out Tony Stark and his technicolor armored geek suit, it gives us some info. The device has a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Android 2.1, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, backside camera and a microSD card slot.
