$400 Red Sox Beats headphones

Posted in Headphones by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2010

Dr. Dre and the Boston Red Sox have teamed up for a branded Red Sox version of the popular Beats headphones. At $400, these are about $100 more than a typical Beats.

You could have a whole day at the ballpark for less than that. You’re paying for the logo of course. These should at least come with a ticket to one of their games. Red Sox fans probably won’t mind the price though.

Nintendo’s Wii football accessory patent

Posted in Wii,patents by Conner Flynn on August 25th, 2009

Nintendo's Wii football accessory patentGame console makers apparently entertain every single idea, no matter how silly. The latest patent dreamed up by the big N is a football accessory that holds a Wiimote and nunchuk. The idea is that it could determine throwing angle, power and direction as well as body movements, which are then translated to the game.

It beats an inflatable horse, but do we really need to be breaking more TVs, with fake footballs? It’s just a patent, but you never know. We may see this one down the road. Good idea or not.

Beats by Dr. Dre HeadphonesWay back in January at CES 2008 we first heard of the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones from Monster. Star Wars bluetooth musical instruments

Star Wars bluetooth musical instruments
Okay, here’s marketing 101. Let’s say you have something crappy that won’t sell to the public. What do you do? Answer: Use the Star Wars angle. Let’s say you have a round ball of wood, a long black blob and a brown furry…something. Call them Darth Vader, Chewbacca and the Death Star. Now they’ll sell to geeks who have more income then they do common sense.

These designs by Benjamin Males are “The Singer, The Drummer and The Dreamer”. Huh? Who is who? The Singer has five keys and is “influenced by classical instruments such as the Violin…and is created from solid Cherry wood. It is made using 5 Axis CNCing, which enables a smooth spiral to be ‘carved’ into the cherry.” Whatever. The Drummer loops drum-beats, creating rhythm in the musical composition. Influenced by African drums such as the Djembe, the Drummer will also throw off a secondary percussive sound when you tap the flat section. Again whatever.

Polaroid DPJ takes your iPod movies to the next levelPolaroid’s DPJ-08580B is only one of a hundred gadgets that go with your iPod, but it manages to stand out admirably. The device is basically a portable DVD player with an embedded iPod dock, which will allow you to view videos stored on your iPod in a larger format. Not huge mind you, but larger. The screen is 8.5 inches.

It retails for just 28,000 yen, which is about $252, but if you absolutely have to buy an accessory for your iPod, you will probably get more enjoyment out of this one then most of the other gadgets out there.

Monster turns to Dr. Dre for high end headphones

Posted in CES 2008,Headphones,Monster by Nino Marchetti on January 11th, 2008

Beats by Dr. DreMonster teamed up with music producer and artist Dr. Dre at CES this week to showcase some new headphones “engineered to accurately reproduce the best of today’s pop music.” These headphones are called “Beats by Dr. Dre” and they will set you back 400 bones come springtime.

“Beats by Dr. Dre,”, according to Monster, use technologies never before found in consumer grade headphones. This includes some new driver technology. The end result, supposedly, is “unequalled performance, with remarkably natural sound, incredible transient response and rich, deep bass.”

Get the digs on “Beats by Dr. Dre” after the jump.

A moving family portrait

Toshiba DPF7XSE digital photo frameLook around and you will see digital photo frames everywhere. Just as digital cameras seem to have replaced the older style film ones, are we seeing the end of traditional paper photos in frames? Could be if the price for these marvels keep dropping.

In favor of that direction we present to you Toshiba’s latest digital photo frame, a creation so new that all it has right now is a model number, the sexy sounding DPF7XSE. The 7-inch center display is raised from the base of the unit and displays 800 x 480 resolution. But here’s where it gets interesting: the DPF also has two dual-one watt speakers, 256 MB of memory (as well as allows for SD/MMC/CF/memory sticks via its 2.0 USB port) and can play MP3, WMA, MPEG4 and even DivX files (that sure beats having to press the next button fast to mimic full motion video, doesn’t it?) Color us interested but the company hasn’t revealed how much this little gem will cost us just yet, only that it will be on sale sometime this fall (infrared remote included.)
