Maybe not the best of ideas. After about an hour of retweets with comments that showed that people did not appreciate the tweet, the account tweeted a follow up, apologizing.

Posted in Apple by Reuben Drake on July 21st, 2011

Well, we knew that a whole bunch of people have downloaded Lion, but now Apple is making sure we know just how many downloads there have been. Turns out that the $29.99 update is pretty popular. Of course we knew that already.

Apple says that one million downloads of Lion have been registered in the first day of availability alone. That’s faster than any other OS release in the company’s history. So maybe their claims of it being the “best OS we’ve ever made” is true.

Netflix for Nintendo 3DS now streaming

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on July 14th, 2011

Right on schedule, this morning Netflix for 3DS owners is now available. The app gives the game system access to the entire catalog as long as you have a streaming-enabled plan. Bookmarking works and lets users resume on the 3DS or even another device.

Obviously videos on Netflix are in 2D. We doubt that Netflix will start adding 3D anytime soon. The app is free to download from the Nintendo eShop. With the new price structure streaming is $8, but costs $16 for those who also want unlimited DVDs as well.

A new app called Ovation aims to help productions both live and online figure out what their audience thinks. It requires no downloads, and no sign-ups on the user’s part and it’s totally free right now. The app is pretty simple is straight forward.

You just create a URL for your event. Then give your audience that URL, which they load on their smartphone. Audience members then use the on-screen slider to provide feedback. Either slide the bar up or down, because either it is good or bad. It works across a bunch of smartphones and mobile devices. So go ahead and tell these people what you think about their show.

Code reveals Facebook working on a music service named Vibes

Posted in Facebook by Conner Flynn on July 7th, 2011

This is interesting. The Skype install code points toward a music application called Vibes. This piece of code all but confirms it. Facebook will be launching a new application called Vibes. As in good vibes. It connects with a music download dialog in the page, apparently.

This news coincides with Spotify’s announcement that it is launching in the US. And a Spotify-Facebook partnership has been rumored. The “Vibes” name makes sense too: The Skype deal was called “Peeps”. I think we can safely expect a launch by the end of summer. This will be interesting to watch.

HP announces Pivot for TouchPad

Posted in HP by Reuben Drake on June 23rd, 2011

It’s not always easy to find apps, but HP doesn’t have that problem. Their App Catalog for the webOS 3.0 TouchPad launches on July 1st. At first it might seem a bit bare, but HP plans to load it up with apps in the near future.

Think of Pivot as a curated digital magazine that shows you a selection of apps someone at HP wants you to see. Find things easier. That’s what we like. It’s great for users to discover new downloads and for developers to not get lost in the crowd. This should be interesting.

Motorola XOOM gets Android 3.1 update in Europe

Posted in Motorola by Conner Flynn on June 22nd, 2011

If you own a Motorola Xoom and live in Europe, you can now download the Android 3.1 Honeycomb update.Looks like the SD memory card slot on the XOOM is finally sorted out as well. According to Motorola, the update will be coming over the next several weeks and that the functionality will vary by region.

So if you are in Europe and have a Xoom, you must be pretty excited right about now. Motorola really didn’t say much else about the update, so other improvements may be less useful than the Sd card slot.
