It’s pretty much what it says, a blank face with the antenna component inside and a booster that uses an AC adapter. It comes in black and pink for $84 in Japan. We have just one question. Why?

Viacom also blocking Google TV

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

Google has been working hard to bring the web experience to your HDTV, but it hasn’t been an easy road thus far. Viacom has just been added to the growing list of networks that are blocking access to Google TV. So far the only networks that allow streaming content to be viewable on Google TV are TBS and Time Warner.

With popular networks like Comedy Central, MTV, Disney and CBS already out of the picture, your choices for streaming content from your Google TV are not looking good at all. Google TV is just in it’s infancy, so this is a sad situation.

TV studios blocking Google TV due to piracy issues

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on October 22nd, 2010

Looks like Google TV is being blocked by TV studios. The reason is because of piracy fears. Disney’s ABC and CBS have confirmed that they have prevented Google TV from watching their free Flash video sites. Both companies thought that Google did not do enough to prevent the threat of piracy.

We aren’t sure how Google will handle this. They will definitely need to implement something to prevent something like this from happening in the future. Do ABC and CBS even have anything worth watching on their flash video sites?

Movie studios to bring pre-DVD streaming to PS3, Xbox, more

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on September 27th, 2010

Here’s more great news for PS3 and Xbox 360 owners. Disney, Sony and Warner are close to testing a system that would give Internet access to movies before they’ve reached Blu-ray or DVD. Disney would be the most aggressive and would allow viewers watch movies on any web-connected device and possibly the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. Disney would likely be cautious at first, trying one movie under the plan in an early 2011 trial.

We aren’t sure if Apple would be involved, but Steve Jobs sits on Disney’s board of directors. In Demand, a partnership between Comcast, Cox and Time Warner, said through CEO Bob Benya that the collective is in talks for a similar option through cable TV and maybe online.

Disney launches new Social Media site

Mickey and the gang are launching a new social media site called Disney Memories. The idea is to share your favorite memories about your experiences with Disney and its theme parks. So it is a lot of PR as well as Social media. Users can upload photos, videos, and talk about their experiences.

It should be noted that users will also be agreeing to the End User Licensing Agreement, which means that you agree to have your memories featured in the company’s Let the Memories Begin campaign. If selected your videos can appear in TV ads and be featured in Disneyworld’s Cinderella Castle and Disneyland’s It’s a Small World.

Disney wants technology standards for web-connected toys

Posted in Disney by Conner Flynn on September 13th, 2010

We don’t have much in the way of details at the moment, but Disney wants to have some order in the web-connected toys market. Whether that means a goofy doll that surfs the web or a Mickey Mouse ebook that updates with bedtime stories, we have no idea. The company’s consumer products division is all set to detail a proposal to establish a set of technology standards at the Engage Conference and Expo this month.

Armen Mkrtchyan, the head of Disney’s “Toymorrow” team will be laying out the plan. He will talk about what kinds of standards Disney is looking at, and how those standards could lead to cost-savings and “increased playability.”

Fox, others considering 99-cent iTunes TV rentals?

Posted in iTunes by Conner Flynn on August 24th, 2010

There had been previous rumors, but now a new source claims that Apple is deeper into negotiations with Fox’s parent company News Corp., as well as “other media companies”, regarding deals for the plan, which would give one or two days of viewing at half the price of a purchase. CBS and Disney are also considering it.

The rumors around iTV persist as well. It would cost just $.99 and have a “smaller hard drive,” a flash drive, and would rely more heavily on streaming than locally stored media. Some other detailed rumors have said that it would still stop at 720p, but that it would run a variant of iOS and could have an app platform.
